I so wished they'd make a 3rd season. I loved this. Really.
I think History is done making these historical epics that they sell to other streaming services I knew about Vikings but didn’t see an advertisement for this show till season 2
Ending of S1 was sad...
The French
One of the most predominate users of the crossbow in Europe at the time this series is set. Depicted using longbows
English mercenaries???
Pope didn´t let Christians use crossbows on others christians I think I read that somewhere I am not sure.
@@simaozinho37 you should watch The King on Netflix, best historic movie I've ever seen
sam williams the king is a disgrace to the real history behind Henry V. Outlaw king is much better.
au secoure ! les français sont des uruk hai ..
I'm always annoyed how almost every depiction of archers always has them fire only two waves of arrows then the infantry charges in, yet the archers have a dozen arrows left and they just stand there.
Arrows was a lot of expensive back then
Bro you know how annoying it is to make arrows? Plus the expenses of making the arrow tips with iron? And then steel? Plus the fletcher don't get me started almost alot of equipment is expensive back in those days.
Also wow.... why does every faction know how to speak English so well -_-
@@koreancowboy42 English is the superior language 🏴
@@koreancowboy42confidently incorrect
And notice how the defenders barely had any bows and arrows😂 having castle walls with those cranelation but not enough arrows😂 doesn make sense
I love how the soldiers guarding the bombs from arrows ducked away so the arrow hit the bombs.
Loyalty only goes so far, and most people would duck away from a FLAMING ARROW
I guess Templar's never heard of helmets XD
At least they now armor, besides helmet that is.
A proper kettle helmet would be my choice. And I would loose the cloak.
So that they can be recognized. The usual Templar helmet makes one unrecognizable
far more important to be dead but recognized than alive and unknown hidden by a helmet
@@Ghoulza except one got shot in the head....
ahh of course, the famous french longbowmen
Far superior to an english crossbowman
french had the help of scots remember, scots guards were good archers
Bows were used by pretty much all nations in Europe before crossbows were more developed.
They could very well be English mercenaries.
This show is very historically inaccurate, but the french did use bows. They just weren't famous for it.
For god sake, you have walls to protect you from arrows.
Yeah but walls only go so high and arrows that reign down from above pass those walls
@@spearshake4771 Kneel down and hug the wall as closely as possible with shields raised up above the head would be better than what they did tho. Some of them Stood with raised shields in the middle of a open courtyard, proffessional soldiers would not be this foolish. Standing makes you a much bigger target but if you kneel you can protect your whole body with a raised shield, that combined with using walls as protection goes a long way
@@nadabutsi7537 no need having shield or braceing the wall! They had woden palisades, made out of hardened, wet wood capable of stoping any arrow or missile!...this movie lacks a competent history adviser!
@@nadabutsi7537 Ordinarily that would be filed under "duh, of course," but I ascertain how the village contrarian has to have it explained to him.
@@spearshake4771 there were wooden roofs over towers and battlements exactly to avoid arrows coming down on soldiers..you think they spent millions and years building castles and forgot about that? You know nuffin john snow.
Interesting how they lowered the iron gate AFTER the battle 😁
They musta forgot they had it.
Xd
They can use it to trap soldiers that enter if they breach the wooden doors. It is a tactic used to kill off more soldiers when they enter but the iron gate prevents them from escaping but because they left they closed it after the battle.
@@jasonchow6475 lol
@@jasonchow6475 yup. Walled fortress is a trap. It's either the citizens are trapped or attackers gets trapped inside. Franks use this wall tactics during the real crusades in mideast.

@@Johnson-bg3jv why's that?
@@ethanguest3438 that was a slightly old comment, I think it was because it wasn't popular enough?
@@Johnson-bg3jv that makes sense
The comment section about this battle didn't disappoint. There is no way those volleys of arrows would have been that effective. If they were that effective there is no way they would have stopped to send a bunch of guys up ladders where the defenders would have the advantage.
0:49 thart man has become a guard of Skyrim.

So this was the adventure he spoke of.
Ah yes,
The Templars have mid 13th century mail, while Philip has early renaissance plate.
*Thank you history channel for being so historically accurate*
I really thought this show was going to be about the Templars during the crusades but we only got to see the siege of Acre

It's a different guy. :p
So should he rejoice that the archer missed? Landry didn't say anything fool
I enjoyed most of the first season of this show but it just started to go off the rails after they got the grail back. It just felt like everything was being prolonged and the action scenes felt inexplicably set up and executed. When they killed off the young guy who was chasing his girlfriend’s killer it was like why did they even make him a main character? He barely did anything.
Ned Stark was a major character but he was killed in Season 1I
Awesome Best Except Ned actually contributed to the plot. His character and deaths set up all the major events for the later seasons whilst the same cannot be said for knightfall.
I agree with you.
I can't believe this was on the "History" Channel. The inaccuracies in this scene could fill a gothic novel.
Love Knightfall - could watch up to and beyond Series 1000 - it's that good!. Make more series and episodes Deus Vult!
for god sake fire arrows dont work that well :(
they dodged the arrow by walking, let's not talk about reality here
@@denizaltunyurt1850 but still :(
Well at least it wasn't a broadhead or bodkin dipped in fire for a sec before being loosed x) But I wonder how hard it would have been to depict a dozen extras releasing a couple of volleys of those same arrows with coals and pitch stuffed in the head, as they are supposed to be used....
Some kind of metal head covering shaped to deflect arrows might have proved useful also standing in the open whilst it’s raining arrows may not be the best move tactically speaking.
The costume design for the soldiers and the knights is great
well the Templars are too clone-like..too many big red crosses..no helmets and all with just chainmail..could be better..could be worse..

Whenever I finished watching an episode from season 2, the hair on my arms was rising. I was always excited to see what happens next. Great series!
Bring Season 3 please!!
amma huge fan of knightfall
I'm looking forward for season 3 🤗
Attack my braves, but first, make sure that the blackpowder is in their archers range.
so... some of those suits of mail even have mail coifs dangling down the back and high quality riveted mail the rich templars had was very effective against arrows. not to mention that castles are designed to resist sieges. there are places to hide from arrows and the fact that they're raised 20 plus feet higher than their attacks gives them a range advantage too.
the more likely scenario would be some forms of siege engines and the templars firing arrows at them. one of the problems with arrows in sieges is that eventually the defenders run out. half the time they were just starving them out of resources. if you fire lots of volleys they can just go pick your spent arrows and fire them back at you.
The Templar castle is still standing to this day I don’t think they wanted to damage it because they wanted the property and money and relics inside it
Any guy who died from arrows in those first two waves deserved it.
Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I totally agree with you hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The French armies battle tactics are so dimwitted. Why would they place all of their gunpowder in ONE SPOT, and WITHIN RANGE of archer fire of the templar castle? If only they moved the gunpowder out of range, and built the siege tower out of sight of the castle, they wouldn't have had any problems!
Well because their French. This is the same French who after being invaded by the Germans for one hour decided to surrender in ww2. Despite the French having the best military in world at that time. France sucks
This is why the French got their butts kicked in 2 world wars.
@@rhaeghartargaryen871 Oh sorry "monsieur" the historian! French surrender after 1 hour!? Yeah, right! Stop your nonsense and go back to your books! Really!? My good your'e a disgrace TARGARYEN! LOL!

The French have the greatest number of victorious battles in the history of humanity.
this is totally unrealistic. arrows one shot armored guys and why they dont block the fire arrow with their shields ??? arrows are like AK47 in those movies.........
anyway, fire arrow were not used because its not possible that the flame stays burning, the wind should just shut off the flame.........................
You're wrong about fire arrows. They were specifically made so that the wind would not extinguish the flame.
You do know a arrow from a longbow has far more stopping power than an ak47 round?
"Fire" arrows were used. I was even surprised to see the right head being used (they usually just use a bodkin or broadhad and stick it in a fire....). However... what did they stuff in that head? At the time, they used burning coals (because flames were snuffed out that's true. The way it worked was: you release the arrow with a burning coal in the head and pitch. On impact, the head is squiched, breaking apart the coal and sending shards flying everywhere around along with the pitch, thus starting a fire. It did demand a lot of arrows, indeed, on prepared surfaces. Rooves in cities were watered during sieges to counter that. On a volatile material tho, it might have worked that quickly. To be noted that there was no apparent flame on the arrow once it was loosed tho, since it was snuffed out. But the coal kept burning inside. And that's even better, otherwise the pitch would have been spent in flight rather than splashing a surface on impact.
As for the stopping power of an arrow @Felix Crawfurd: yes indeed. But that is due to blunt impact. That doesn't mean there is any damage done to the target. Even less that it pierced the armor. Could be done with gigantic luck, but even then you still have padding, and then it has to penetrate the body enough to seriously wound. You can twang a dude with a sword on his helmet and make his ears ring, doesn't mean you're going to cut him in half.
Ending was more satisfying than that poser called GOT
Isn't the final season
1:52 Oooh. The Battle of Helms Deep.

The writer who wrote this Episode should be Fired, they have this Huge build up to the battle, the King waves his Flag, to tell them No Surrender, No Mercy!! Fight to the Death!!!
and what happens?
He gets a hold of Landry and they all just give up, (sigh...) a gold fish would have a better imagination.
Although not the most Accurate show, it’s still one of the most entertaining shows I’ve seen in a while. The story is intriguing and for the most part the characters are enjoyable. Would definitely recommend watching the full show if your looking for something to binge for a couple of days. Again the show is good but definitely not anything mind blowing
These series is as historical as Game of Thrones.
Woww its awesome 👍👍😍

Knight: Arrows!!!!
other Knight: guys let's just go inside real quick, we're in a castle after all.
Knight: Sh...No it.......it doesn't work like that!!!
Shields!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alex Black Why sure duh just leave the walls defenseless and let them easily storm the castle and kill us all.
Hhhhhhhhhh
Nice walls. I guess my garden fence is taller than that :D
Then you probably never seen much castles or fortresses in your life, walls are there to prevent attackers to rush in, of course if the walls are taller even better but I would like to see you try to climb these "tiny" walls with archers shooting you down while you run for it and while you climbing the stairs people throwing the stairs aways or tossing stones at you and when you finally reach the top you have a trained soldier with a shield and a axe/sword/lance stabbing you while you trying to get of the stairs, not every fortress have a huge wall.
@@simaozinho37 well yeah sure. Complety agreed. It's just like, normally they built tiny walls on high ground castles, where it is no need for them. Or otherwise maybe in a lake or moat, to secure the town walls. For me these walls just look unrealistic for a usual land castle thats it.

Can someone tell me how it ends?
(Quick run down) MC has to retrain as an initiate, growing along side other initiates until they are promoted to the rank of Templar, which took almost half of the season to complete. The King sent the prince to kill all of the children with similar birth dates as the MCs kid, which the prince eventually finds but decides to cover for once he realizes that the King killed the Queen, which the King claimed the MC did. The Templars are eventually besieged and they surrender, leading to them being burned at the stake. At the last moment, the MC and a few surviving Main Characters make they're escape. The MC then goes to the castle and kills the king. THIS IS EXTREMELY CUT SHORT, I HAVE LEFT OUT KEY INFO IF YOU WANT TO SEARCH FOR YOURSELF.

Never understood why they stop firing. If your arrows are that effective, why not keep shooting? It's not like your archers are only carrying two arrows each
