Today, getting what you need is as easy as a trip to the store. From food to clothing, energy, medicine, and so much more, Andy George will discover what it takes to make everything from scratch. His mission is to understand the complex processes of manufacturing that is often taken for granted and do it all himself. Each week he’s traveling the world to bypass the modern supply chain in order to harvest raw materials straight from the source. Along the way, he’s answering the questions you never thought to ask.
Music by the talented Taylor Lewin

He said he ran out of materials to make his suit in that video but now he pulls out a giant bag of hemp and cotton wtf 🤔😂
Tayvin69 69 he made a full cotton shirt and the only thing he ran out of was silk . See the video before saying anything .the only thing he made complete was a cotton t shirt and a coat of hemp
do you mean the video he made in 2017?
126 is a multiple of 7.
*him at the age of 60*
My life has been eventful...
*remembers the cranberry fall*
Ah yes..
Ethereal Priestess I genuinely laughed
LMAO!!!!
Fan Girl Nnnmmm
separating all that hemp looked so tedious and took ages. I think cotton is definitely the better option.
+Mutton Man Agreed. Although the hemp paper did have really unique characteristics.
Censored Play uhh, not quite lol. Good joke though
I just go to the office supply store down the street.... It's like a buck or 2 for a note pad
Mutton Man why not smoke it instead
Michael Martini hemp and marijuana are two very different plants. Same family, different characteristics
Just discovered your channel. I'm really enjoying how watching a novice dissect the entire process of creating "simple" things we experience in the everyday first world culture allows me to understand my own privilege with new eyes.
Thank you so much for making such informative videos, i love learning and wanting to learn more about how things are made, but i never had that option to do this by video or extensive research and learning how to do things on my own. And you saved me so much torturing time i force myself to spend during my busy schedule. You're my hero man. Also, i was wondering if you can do videos on how to make soap from scratch.
Remember, the best way of showing your appreciation is by supporting the show. I really love this channel so I'm constantly trying to remind people of how these guys have such a low budget yet produce such amazing videos. Their Patreon only earns them a little over 400 a month but it could definitely do better *wink wink*
+Clevertrousers Thank you!
+Raven Virc Soap is definitely on our list for 2016.
Thanks Clevertrousers...yeah we definitely could use more Patrons to keep us going...
if you like learning from this channel try out primitive technology. he also looks into how to personally create things often taken for granted.
"Let's try cooking the hemp"
Mike Leslie I would like but it 69
Tracy Thomas same
Gaming Sokz its hemp not weed
I knew this was going to be the top comment
Jose Fuentes hemp is like a much weaker kind of weed tho, and with that much
This is a better more interesting version of How Its Made! I look forward to these videos and get really excited when a new one shows up on my feed. Keep up the great work guys!
Krystina Tran he has his own thing much defferant that how its made its not a factory process its every material found then made into somthing.
Hey, don't bash how it's made - they have their own style and focus mostly on manufacturing. Both their series and this one are great.
I love how seriously Andy takes his work! Only a very dedicated person would spend hours peeling hemp. Love u Andy!!
This guy is awesome! Very patient and a hard worker! Love what you're doing
Well when zombie outbreak happens this guy will know how to make everything lol. He will be the guy everyone needs around.
One of the best channels I've subbed to in 2015
Man you guys are truly awsome going out and learning what you wanna know and not sitting back and hoping you knew it
I really like the fact that you actually introduced us to paper telling about its history ,..etc, really appreciate it.
There is so much time, money and effort in this channal. Respect
The most awesome channels in RUclips doesn't have at least 500k subs
He has 1m now
yay bout to spend hours of my life watching cool stuff
Ben Davidson literally me watching this guy’s vids
Kind of really annoyed you didn't use Birch Bark for your paper.
Yeah. It's a native form of paper, and you don't have to work for it.
Call_Me_Map youre a map
You earned 2 awards!!!!
Your youtube channel is the best!!!
Your youtube channel is the most underrated of all!!!
Nothing like a good duo of a young man and an elder cooking in the basement!
Justin ROFL
I remember being really young and seeing I think it was Sesame Street show the process on how to make paper out of old jeans? It always confused me and this answered all my questions
The brown paper would be good for like a diary and other things you want to keep in there. The book cover would be brown too with a wrap. Someone in my class had a same type of colored paper as the plant.
This guy deserves so much more views
Dude, this is freakin' awesome! Loved all of your videos so far. The fact that everything is made from the scratch is pretty cool. And the process is very detailed and descriptive. Gonna be on the look out for more of your work.
Such a terribly underrated channel.
To those of you saying that he ran out of material . I wanna say you that the only thing he made complete was a hemp coat and a cotton t shirt . He said he rant out of silk and alpaca fibre
7 YEARS AGO? its crazy how video makes everything new.
He always looks so done with the world
With this process and some soft mulberry bark, you should be able to make tapa, or kapa as it's pronounced in Hawaii. You may know it as barkcloth.
1:30 in a dark basement with lots of chemicals! Come on are trying to make a new breaking bad.
Dank un-smokable hemp.
I WILL REIGN i
I know right? Disappointing
Oh, you can smoke it, all right!
You may not want to, but I mean, it's at least physically possible.
Rolling paper
Grab a giant sheet of paper than smoke it
Why didn't he pound the hemp stalks to extract the fibers?
Your channel is amazing. Really fascinating that something so simple could be so complicated.
He will be on top of my list, in case of zombie apocalypse
imagine that woman being the biggest meth cooker of the state
imagine your mother smacking your face, what a day that would be
hello guys imagine using imagine jokes in 2019
hello guys imagine using an imagine joke mocking an imagine joke mocking an imagine joke that’s mocking about using mother jokes in 2019

This guy should have so many more subs like he does so much for RUclips
FULL RESPECT FOR THIS GUY
You can literally make hemp paper by chewing the stems into a pulp and spitting into a jar, mix with baking soda or whitening tooth paste and let it soak for like an hour then press pulp and let dry........ Its surprisingly durable and white........
That hemp one looks a lot lighter and I love that texture!
Just found this..yeah, was busy adulting til now, now disabling. Glad you identified paper maker in comments was looking all over, way cool operation. Was wondering why you didn't try blending fibers in paper. Also was thinking of flax tow as that is nice and sticky and strong. Also wondered about dryer lint paper even though I use sunshine..
man, this makes making the building plan in Rust look easy.
I kinda wonder about using some of the dreaded chemicals.
Either lye or baking soda would greatly decrease the amount of processing needed to make the plant fibers usable, and both can be sourced from renewable sources like wood ash.
Glad you have a house and yard to do this in now. I cringed watching you separate the wheat in your apartment :)
we've made paper for Xmas cards using lint we got from the dryer. make a slurry and screen it out. fast, cheap & simple.
I just realized, this show is basically the new Dirty Jobs!
way better then the first one, great video
An interesting discussion is worth comment. I feel that its best to write more on this matter, it might not be a taboo subject however usually people are not sufficient to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
Cooking the hemp is such a good idea...
This chanel is so under rated
This is such a beautiful thing to know.
Thats one heck of a rolling paper! 😁
I love this channel so much!! Can't wait for more videos!😋
Seriously noone else noticed how sketchy this paper mill looks lol?
+TorrentOfficial it's a small scale paper mill and it looks to have been made in the basement of someone's home. It doesn't look sketchy at all. The biggest difference in a larger scale paper mill would be the size, look and finish of the machinery.
+TorrentOfficial It's in the basement of a really old building in downtown Minneapolis. The business is appropriately called Cave Paper.
Mitch C hemp doesn’t get you high
Where else you going to make counterfeit bills lol
-[06122019:0020]-
So what if both hemp and cotton are mix or merge together to create a paper?
I think if I had to make paper by hand, cotton or washi would be my choice. I mean there's washi paper still around with writing dating back to 720s CE. I believe one could get similar results from cotton. Both are just tougher and stronger than wood pulp paper, and don't need bleaching.
Photographs look amazing printed on cotton paper
Im loving this series!
It'd be really nice if you tried to cram a couple extra minutes into these episodes!
+Reese Kittle I agree, I feel like I'm watching a preview for a full video. Still good just... brief
they're producing this with a super low budget, you can't blame them
Hugo Lee is that a joke?
*Kadoos* nope.
+hugo lee but its not a problem to show more of each step in the process, as the'll probably filmed the most & cut it down later :)
i cant stop watching this and i have to study!!!!
when i was a kid i was shown how to recyle papper it was pretty cool we took new papper and shread them and had them in water and eventually if i rember correctly ((had this done when i was like 8 or 9 and im 37 now)) but it eventully ends up be the sonsistency of flour then we reduce the water and pour the flower mixture on this frame screen and let dry it was white and useable but not pretty maybe you can try it
Very interesting I went to a heritage festival in central PA run by the Amish and a boy made paper with cotton and heated iron plates attached to a workbench vice like mechanism
Very nice video! It would be interesting to see how to make the Hollander beater!
In science class we were learning about paper and before the teacher came we were talking about when we ate paper when we were little then we watched how paper was made then they said that they bleached it and everybody freaked out.😂
Damn i cant believe how you keep trying and trying your my inspiration
That hemp paper seems nice to roll one
this is like how its made but 10 times better
You know you've got an interesting life when you've got hemp and cotton to make paper from scratch because you already used it to make a suit from scratch...holy shit this dude is cool
-which is then covered with another wet felt, which is then covered with another sheet of paper, which is then covered with another wet felt
No paper-cuts during the proces?
the screen-thing that used to make paper is called a "mould and deckle"
What type of wood is most commonly used for making paper? Like oak, pine, Mahogany?
What you did first was sift out all of the small particles of pulp and only used the big pieces, that's why it was kind of crappy. If you wanted to to that yourself you would have sifted out all of that stuff like you did, and then threw the pulp out, and then used something like a coffee filter
Why doesn't this guy have more subscribers and views
those papery hair arms tho
Who does not like to "cook hemp"
retak just fyi hemp is used as a material to create various things, it is different than the actual nugs that get you high
Prefer burning it, nam sayin cuuuuuh
@@sergiochavez7530 r/wooosh
I am gonna cherish paper from today onwards.
I made paper with cattails and it worked very well
Now i can kind of understand scratch and sniff thanks for the video
You sir have a really cool channel!
these are really great videos dude, keep it up!
Create the wood to make wooden spoons, and create the steel to shape the wood.
This guy is patient
I love your channel, but I always wonder what our ancestors ffar earlier did without having all these machines. How did they making paper in Europe like 400 years ago out of wood without this blender and cutting machine?
Funny that you had some hemp left after your suit. Usually the suits take away all your hemp xD
I thought it was interesting the way you made the cotton paper, I wonder if you could make cotton clothes.
Thanks for making this video. Pretty cool.
I always wondered if it's possible to make like a block of paper. Like a paper cube. How tough a material would that be? xD
Well you have a paper square. Just stack a bunch or buy a pre-stacked paper thing.
I think you'd have to take the material, like this cotton or hemp fiber and stack like a huge ton of it and push it under the press and then let it dry with tons of fans cause it won't have nearly as much surface area.
Then maybe you'd have what I'm imagining.
What do you mean by "pre-stacked paper thing"? You mean a pack of papers? Those wouldn't be one piece.
I want a solid cube of paper xD
If you want to find out, just soak a stack of printing paper in hot water and let it dry.
This is awesome. You are awesome.
When your friend sees you smoking a just a piece of paper but little does he know that paper was made out of hemp
Cop: what’s in that bag?
HTME: Oh not a body officer!
Cop:So what’s in it then?
HTME:Hemp...
😶😐😦😧😲
Hemp is not weed it’s from the same plant but it’s just fibers with cbd which basically just gives it the same characteristics of lavender and that’s it
Watch the How it's made video on paper, then watch this video. They're so similar it's uncanny. I guess it's the same process, and there's only so many ways to deliver it.
I think the problem with the paper yo made with the tree was that you didn't blend it long enough.
This was great!
Thank you for sharing honey! xoxo
I just made some paper and I am watching this as it dries
You should try making origami paper. Maybe rice paper?
Did you have to heat the cotton, too? What is the water temperature in the "beater machine" ?
I'm curious, how was this done historically? The paper turned out great, but I imagine those machines didn't always exist.
Yo u should grow a weed plant and use hem papers to make a splifff
You can also try writing your book in sand/clay and then baking it...
Hmm good to know for when i get summoned to a fantasy world
"let's try cooking the hemp"
this sounds like a whole different video
