    It took 3 trips to Sanok, Poland to find only living relatives and picture from 1930s did it in newspaper. I met a NH person while visiting Auschwitz and he was only survivor of resistance and since he spoke Polish, he hooked me up with lady administrator in Sanok and before my mom died she found her family at 95 and lived to over hundred. I could get citizenship as I am second generation. I wish Political climate in Poland was in better shape. We ate a lot of cabbage and her mother made beer in bathtub. I have a polish cousin in Canada. Love you cooking. I see my mom through you.

    Hi Anna,
    I’d just like to tell you how much I’m enjoying your newly-created RUclips videos! I like your explanations of the recipes and especially when you throw in some stories or memories you have in connection with the dish. Please keep it up, as well as the “outtakes” at the end of this latest video. Love it!

    Lol when I was a kid growing up in Polska in the late 80's they called the Milk Bars "stoluwka" in Starachowice where I grew up. I remember how good the food was, made and prepared by true traditional House Wives. I have yet to find a Polish restaurant in Toronto that can match those memorable flavours. I'm binge watching your videos caus almost all of them take me back to when I was 9 in Poland in the late 80's

    I’m loving your videos! I never learned any recipes from my Polish grandparents so I am so thankful I found your channel and blog. Just made this last Friday for a meat free dinner with pierogi ruskie (not homemade, baby steps) and it was fantastic! Used golden beets because they looked better at the farmers market. Found the dill pickles in brine at a local Polish deli so I’ll be trying your dill pickle soup next even though I don’t remember having that growing up. But I always loved my grandmas dill pickles in the summer so I’m sure I’ll love the soup too!

    I've made this before. It's a great salad. It goes well with mizeria on a warm summer day! But surówka z buraczków and sałatka z rzodkwi look good on a plate together. Keep up the good work Anna. Your videos are looking great! And keep them coming. I still think I see a Polish cooking channel for tv in the making here!

    We made it this way too -- yum! I like your tip of roasting the beets to keep the color and add that roasted flavor. We boiled ours, so I will try it your way next time.

    Czy moge sie dowiedziec z jakiego regionu jestes? Ja jestem z podlasia i w ilu domach bylam Tutaj buraczki sie gotuje i zageszcza skrobia.

      Jestem ze Szczecina a moi dziadkowie pochodzą z centralnej Polski i ta kuchnia u nas góruje. Przepis na surówkę z buraczków za zimno właśnie tak się u nas robi ale buraczki zasmażane tak, zagęszczane są u nas zasmażką i „doprawione” gęstą śmietaną. Buraczki można oczywiście ugotować, i to też się u mnie robiło (zawsze w łupinach) ale ja wolę pieczone, lepiej zachowują kolor.
      Dziękuję za miłe słowa i pozdrawiam ciepło! 😊

    I love beets I was thinking instead using yellow onion and adding sugar I would substitute red onion and maybe some grated red cabbage (alittle more diabetic friendly ) and I like alittle crunch..... forgive me I'm diabetic so always looking at recipes with that in mind... btw I'm enjoying your books...

    • @Calabrien
      @Calabrien Год назад

      If you love beets, there is actually another variation of beet root salad called "Ćwikła z Chrzanem" (Beets with horseradish). You prepare the beets similar as in the video - but the difference is that you grind them on the smaller grinder (so you kinda will get a beetroot pulp). Season with salt, pepper, lemon or/and apple vinegar and grated horseradish (freshly grated or from a jar). A little bit of sugar as well or half of grated apple. For this one, you don't add an onion.

    Question you add oil on your video but in the recipes it says vinegar. Do you add both?

    • @PolishYourKitchen

      Sometimes I don’t add vinegar at all but I always add oil and lemon. Try it both ways and see what suits your palate.

    Milk bars never served meat dishes .. it served pirogies ,crapes dumplings( kopytka) and variety of soups but no meat that’s why they called them Milk Bar .. lots of dairy related food

      Kotlet mielony (minced cutlet), ozorki (beef tongue) and a few other meat dishes were always on the menu, although meatless dishes dominated. Meat dishes were limited but there were/are always a few options. Now days there are many more meat options, bunch of soups (6-8 different ones), pierogi, dumplings, kashas etc.
