Way back in 2007 Daewon did a demo at evo skatepark in greeneville SC and I was one of a few kids who were skitching on the back of his team's van when they were leaving. He was so impressed that he took off his shirt that he was wearing and threw it out of the van. Needless to say. I still have that shirt to this day, framed and fondly remembered as one of the greatest moments of my teenage life.
Such a cool dude! Talks about other guys the whole time so humble: being the first to show of a hard flip, and says some random guy actually did it. Not many people would say that.
I never really got into the world of skateboarding, as I grew up longboarding. That being said, I love skateboarding as a form of expression and self healing. I am now in my late 20's with crippling depression, but the hapiness that Daewon Song brings me is insurmountable. I genuinely smiled the whole time while rewatching this video for the 999th time. It only gets bettter. Thank you for RUclips, and Daewon. You're a fucking legend!
One of my skate buddies in the 90's absolutely idolized Daewon. There was a time where we spent more time dragging picnic tables around, than actually skating.
Daewon, I never felt line you ever fell off! I still show new friends the old Rodney VS Daewon videos. Sir, you are and always will be a legend until the end of time! Daewon forever!!!
Hell yea I went to Alta Vista elementary and grew up in Redondo Beach. I used to skate Torrance High all time. Stoked to see some pros come out of my hood.
The picnic table stuff is awesome! I would watch round 2 then go to the church down the street and put a picnic table down the 4 stair and 50 50 the bottom part of the bench. It made me and my friends feel like bad asses even though we kinda sucked. Thank Daewon for the motivation!!!
Daewon man I haven't heard anything about him in along time he was always his worst critic when he was always spot on with his skating skills, one of the best skaters in my opinion....
Daewon Song is the nicest person ever. When i spotted him skating in Pasadena years ago, before I could say, "Hi" Daewon gave me the biggest hug and said, "nice to meet you brother."I think we shared a bromance moment lol.
It’s so great that he’s finally known for how unbelievably amazing he is, instagram showed the world that Daewon is in a whole league of his own. He is and has been my favorite skater for a long time
Those picnic table parts are iconic classics. No apologies necessary. Anyone complaining is lame as fuck and should make their own videos if they think they know what's best for skating.
I never realised the thing with the picnic tables! Those vids with the picnic tables inspired me so much back then, totally got me back into skating hardcore again!
I remember when Rodney vs Daewon first came out. Unbelievable. And then part 2, part 3, ... I never looked at his pic-nic table skating as anything lame in any way. With the kind of style and command he had of his skateboard, and the difficulty of the tricks he did, there was no way my friends or I could think anything negative. On another note, I didn't know Daewon had taken any sort of hiatus from skateboarding before the release of Trilogy. Man, am I glad he picked up that video part in Trilogy. His part seriously made had me stoked on skateboarding. Watching him skate those smallish beige ledges at that one school ... damn, man, I couldn't believe how clean and fast he rode. And Daewon, it seemed to me, was always behind the scenes, possibly someone who less serious skaters had never heard of. But those of us really into skateboarding always knew of his incredible talent. It was just a matter of when he was going to appear again. Thank you, Daewon, for being an inspiration for me and my friends. And thank you to World Industries and all of Daewon's sponsors who truly care about skateboarding, for making it possible for Daewon to make a living off skateboarding and to continue spreading his zeal for this awesome sport!
it's crazy growing up WORSHIPPING Daewon in transworld and random photos and not hearing him speak until seeing this. This guy has blown my mind for so long
the talk Rodney said they had when everyone quit to make girl. Rodney said he figured Daewon would leave too, but he said “Well, I guess it’s just you and me Rod”
I totally agree dude. I'm 16 and when i first skating I skated vert until i got good at it. Then I switched to street and it without a doubt helped me get grinds when i switched over to street.
I remember when i was little backin like 99' I was skating with my brother at my elemntary school and Dae-won came and started skating with us, my brother recognized him from the VHS videos we used to watch. Hes a pretty cool dude. more recently he came into the restaurant my brother worked at and gave him some prototype dvs shoes.
Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song Round 2 was the first skate tape I ever saw. Which is kind of weird because I started skating in 1989. I remember thinking, Holy shit you can Ollie on to a table! That's insane!
yeah. Geoff Rowley..the main guy on Vans, helped Volcom become what it is today and owns one of the best skate companys ever in Flip. oh,he was also skater of the year and put out gazillion iconic videoparts. Haslam is a great skater, second best behind daewon when it comes to tech skating, but he still needs to prove himself. that's how I see it. longevity counts man.
Dood that school is so awesome for letting them skate. Props to a school that cool. All the spots are getting shut down and the school is letting them skate.
Other than the blatant destruction of property, why was there ever reason to give Daewon shit for the picnic tables? That was so innovative and mind blowing to my friends and I at the time. I saw Daewon on the Tony Hawk tour and he literally ripped everything in the park. From the huge hubbas, pads, and transition. With what seemed to be little to no effort. Daewon IS SKATEBOARDING.
a lot of people get bummed by the "only good at one thing" phenomenon. it's all good daewon. all those hard earned skills will transfer straight over to the next thing when the time comes.
i remember seeing him in the decka video (dont remember the spelling, i was like 5). shit was crazy, but after that i never saw from him again until almost round 3
Way back in 2007 Daewon did a demo at evo skatepark in greeneville SC and I was one of a few kids who were skitching on the back of his team's van when they were leaving. broshaman nice
I can possibly get him to sign it 🤔
Cap
U a fan fam 😂
I don't care what anyone says, the shit he did on picnic tables was just fucking insane. I loved that shit.
Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song
No serious person would ever say otherwise.
@@zezuntxiduntxi it was rad, for 1 part. But then you saw it show up in many different vids in all the parts and then it got lame.
samee
man Daewon is such a cool guy
SuburbanSam Hilarious also, him and MJ would be a duo to have their own TV Show
Damn, Daewon has an amazing memory for tricks!
Im sure he watched the clips before
Kenny Nam Of course he did, but still i wouldn't remember that many tricks
I thought the same thing.
he probably has like specific photographic memory
he associates certain spots with certain tricks
its like burned in his memory in a specific way
I find it amusing how he doesn't use the modern terms like tre flip, or varial heel flip. He just says 360 flip and heel flip shove it lol
Daewon has just the most relaxed, smooth style ever. He's so much fun to watch.
Such a cool dude! Talks about other guys the whole time so humble: being the first to show of a hard flip, and says some random guy actually did it. Not many people would say that.
There´s a reason him and Mullen have gotten along for so long ;)
That school is so fun to skate, its mellow , daewon first pro i skated with , mad respect for him he kept me in it years later
in my mind the picnic table thing never got old, hell, i get excited when i see someone these days skating one. its rare.
I never really got into the world of skateboarding, as I grew up longboarding. That being said, I love skateboarding as a form of expression and self healing. Daewon has put limitless inspiration out into the universe. Always doing it his own way. Legend.
One of my skate buddies in the 90's absolutely idolized Daewon. There was a time where we spent more time dragging picnic tables around, than actually skating.
daewon song is everything a skate should be. humble, creative, never thinks he's above anyone. great dude and the Mullen of there was no Mullen
Daewon, I never felt line you ever fell off! I still show new friends the old Rodney VS Daewon videos. Sir, you are and always will be a legend until the end of time! Daewon forever!!!
how the fuck does he remember every trick that happened at every spot, that shit is nuts
One of those things you just do
+RamuneFlavor cuz he nailed it?
***** makes sense
damn bro, I remembered every trick from those early world vids
i wish they made a epicly later'd for lewis marnell :'( he was such a sick skate. S.I.P.
Hell yea I went to Alta Vista elementary and grew up in Redondo Beach. I used to skate Torrance High all time. Stoked to see some pros come out of my hood.
Redondo Beach isn't a hood. It's for millionaire spoiled kids. Kind of the complete opposite of a hood.
These picnic table constructions look very fun to skate. I don't understand why people were giving him shit for that.
Thanks to daewon I started doing that as well. Not as crazy tricks but it was actually fun since skate blockers were ruining places I skated
cause thats all he did for years and people wanted to see his full potential
gaps or go home was the creed of the 90's
The picnic table stuff is awesome! I would watch round 2 then go to the church down the street and put a picnic table down the 4 stair and 50 50 the bottom part of the bench. It made me and my friends feel like bad asses even though we kinda sucked. Thank Daewon for the motivation!!!
Relatable!!
no words to say about daewon. miss them days
Daewon man I haven't heard anything about him in along time he was always his worst critic when he was always spot on with his skating skills, one of the best skaters in my opinion....
Daewon Song is the nicest person ever. When i spotted him skating in Pasadena years ago, before I could say, "Hi" Daewon gave me the biggest hug and said, "nice to meet you brother."I think we shared a bromance moment lol.

you know when a skater´s OG when he calls a Varial hell a Hellflip Shuv.
Ask an old school skater what a hardflip is lol You'll get 180 kickflip shuv
Those picnic table parts are iconic classics. No apologies necessary. Anyone complaining is lame as fuck and should make their own videos if they think they know what's best for skating.
I'm still waiting for daewon and rodney to play skate.
We owe it all to these guys!!! Mad respect to Daewon!!
You can tell Daewon is very humble but also a really talented skater. That's why he is one of my top skaters.
Daewon, Muska, and Bucky were my favorite skaters back in the day.
favorite skater of all time!
Daewon is so humble.. instead of talking about himself, he just talks about how awesome everyone else is... Such a chill dude.
"Sorry we couldn't get you the picnic table" lmao
+tra789 That cracked me up.
"Well, god damn it. There's nothing I can do here. I'm out."
I remember watching the Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song video back in the days in complete amazement of their skill level.
Daniel is a proskater and a legend. What a shame for writing amateur skater when introducing him.
Half a decade late my guy
I never realised the thing with the picnic tables! Those vids with the picnic tables inspired me so much back then, totally got me back into skating hardcore again!

switch 540 bigflip. But they didn't get that one so I went with the heelflip shuv it
Daewon always blew me away, seeing slides and manuals over gaps was nuts...best shoes ever, Daewon Song DVS.
dude that was the best hardflip ive seen that was gnar looking
I used to love this guy im glad to see he hasnt washed up
it's crazy growing up WORSHIPPING Daewon in transworld and random photos and not hearing him speak until seeing this. This guy has blown my mind for so long
I love that they brought up the picnic tables... what a walk down memory lane.
idk how any1 can hate on the picnic table era. i was astonished as a kid watching that happen
Daewon is sick!
Love child... One of my favorite of all time... Incredibile video... Cheers from 🇮🇹 italy y
Dae won is an amazing person
Bro I love how koston and guy are on the set of full flared while talking about this. Mad history here.
I'd be super proud of the picnic benches, great video.
btw i lol'd at alex olson being am back when this was recorded. time flies
He is a Wizard. :)
the talk Rodney said they had when everyone quit to make girl. Rodney said he figured Daewon would leave too, but he said “Well, I guess it’s just you and me Rod”
These are so goood! Can't stop watching!
I totally agree dude. I'm 16 and when i first skating I skated vert until i got good at it. Then I switched to street and it without a doubt helped me get grinds when i switched over to street.

I live off Torrance Blvd. skated at Torrance high a few times. did not know pro skaters skated here!!
The picnic tables were some of my favorite...Daewon is the GOAT
daewon is so fuckin humble. as a legend and all he talks about is his homeboys.big ups g
We loved the picnic table skating. Our group of friends all split into either Mullen or Song camps, and there was no admitting that both were good :P
LEGEND!
mad memories watching this.
Daewons a good dude. No wonder he kicks it with Castillo they are both from tha hood.
Daewons an awesome skater. Gave me a free deck when I was 12.
Is he the first to get not in drugs and alcohol?
he's so modest, if you never saw him skate you'd never know hes one of the best in the world
I’m so bummed that Rodney Mullen never got his own epically later’d episode. Or Ryan Sheckler, Nyjah or Tony Hawk.
" I'll eat a whole cake.. and it drives people nuts, they'll be like "dude, please..no more...' "
These shorter epicly laterd episodes are way better than the long ass multiple parts that are coming out.
Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song Round 2 was the first skate tape I ever saw. Which is kind of weird because I started skating in 1989. I remember thinking, Holy shit you can Ollie on to a table! That's insane!
Awesome guy the whole video he talked about everybody else except himself ✊️🤙🏽
yeah. Geoff Rowley..the main guy on Vans, helped Volcom become what it is today and owns one of the best skate companys ever in Flip. oh,he was also skater of the year and put out gazillion iconic videoparts. Daewon/Mullen GOATS
Say what you want about Vice, but the Epicly Later'd series are always fire
Daniel Castillo: Amatuer Skater... wtf? lol
Daewon is the GOAT!
I respect Song
i have so much respect for that man
What a rad humble guy
Pure class, RESPECT.
Amazing doco!
Need an updated one. He’s still ripping today
Dood that school is so awesome for letting them skate. Props to a school that cool. All the spots are getting shut down and the school is letting them skate.

Daewon is a Sk8 God !! Like the Ninja of Skateboarding.
Deawon you are too humble you were a major icon
Awesome stuff, Daewon is crazy good!
keep on doing you my brother.
a lot of people get bummed by the "only good at one thing" phenomenon. it's all good daewon. all those hard earned skills will transfer straight over to the next thing when the time comes.
yeah my brother loves skating..... and his memory for skating is beyond ridiculous
Are you really Daewons brother?
+Brendan Adams Yes
+Anton Adelson Me too
Daewon = a wise skateboarder!
he's one of the best
Daewon is the man, super down to earth guy seems like. I’m trippin on his trucks though lol, my trucks are pretty loose too but his are beyond lol
i cant believe that crazy of shit was going on back in the 90s!! It makes it seem like skateboarding hasn't even progressed very much since then
I love daewon, so humble, and a fucking amazing skater. Haslam daewon, and mullen. Fucking badass
i taught him everything he knows
i remember seeing him in the decka video (dont remember the spelling, i was like 5).
shit was crazy, but after that i never saw from him again until almost round 3
Childhood revisited haha damn hell yeah Bros!!
Ha, imagine Daewon just rolls up to your sesh, casual.
...& that's a sick Diamond shirt that Daniel Castillo wears at the first spot.
Epicly Later'd is a sick series. The subtitles leave much to be desired.
woah jeremy wray was so gnarly!
Kareem Campbell was my favorite and then there was Daewon Song.
I remember I had that DECA bright yellow vhs tape.
