No, it wasn't and no he wasn't past his prime, he had some great fights and even though he was new to wrestling training, he had one of the best take downs in MMA history in one of his first MMA fights. Anderson Silva was at his absolute best when he was 2-3 years older than Kimbo. You guys are brainwashed about age because athletes retire from overuse injuries or not wanting to compete anymore. That's why different positons in the NFL retire at different age groups on average, because of different wear and tear.

This man is one of the nicest people to ever walk the planet earth. As intimidating as he was, he was also a gentle man who appreciated his fans and that’s a legacy worth more than a championship belt.
Exactly. People often overlook that it wasn't about fighting for him. It was about living a honorable life and Kimbo has done it. Something we should all be striving for.

Almost 25 years later I still watch MMA. Without us finding his videos I probably would have never got into fights. The dude was so far ahead of his time with posting videos online of street fights.

You can tell he was a good dude outside of fighting. He’s terrifying but at the same time, pleasant to be around. Nothing to fear at all. At least that’s the vibe I got from him.
Great Documentary from VICE. Absolutely love Dark side of the Ring. As a kid watching RUclips on my friends computer with my friends was one of the highlights of my teen years in the UK.
When Kimbo first started making professional fight money, he bought a townhouse in Coral Springs right around the corner from a friend of mine. One day, we’re playing beer pong in my friend’s garage and this huge dude rides up on a bicycle. Kimbo walks up to the garage and immediately starts shaking hands and introducing himself. We offered him a beer but he declined saying he was training. He hung out for like 30-45 minutes and was cracking jokes and just being personable. He was scary looking as hell but the nicest dude in person. RIP
Hoping Vice makes it’s come back . Used to love watching Vice . Rip Kimbo . Had me (5”8) feeling like I was 6”5 street fighter as a teenager working out watching his fights on RUclips in high school

I have vivid memories of being a very young child while my cousin and older brother watched Kimbo videos. He truly was a legend, you could erase my mind and I am confident I would still remember Kimbo Slice throwing absolute hammers !!!
Brings back memories of early RUclips. I remember watching Kimbo fights with coworkers in the office. Seemed like a great guy, too bad he didn't get started in MMA a little earlier in life.
Kimbo was a legends in the hoods in the early 2000's. Just a straight up scrapper not afraid to bang it out. So many big homies starting boxing cuz of him.
I was 16 yo when these started getting uploaded. They were a phenomena. To beat Mercer as a amature was unbelievable. Kimbo would of been a millionaire with the views he got nowadays.
Hey brother, spell check. Amateur not armature. You have a great comment and just want you to be appreciated for it. I was a young adult and I don't think my perspective.
Watching Kimbo's backyard fight videos as a 12/13 year old was something else man. He didn't even seem human... seemed invincible. Watching his pro fight with dada years later was one of the saddest things I've ever seen. They tried to sweep it under the rug, understandably. It was a complete embarrassment, but also a big eye opened regarding the massive difference between street fighters and actual real combat sport athletes. If at least one person can throw a good punch, street fights are normally over fairly quick, and they're normally over before they're really over if you know what I mean. Aggression and fearlessness are huge factors. How your opponent perceives you is a huge factor. And what street fighter was more intimidating to people than Kimbo? Most of those fights were over before they begun. And if they werent, all it takes is one good bare knuckle shot to the right spot in the beginning of the fight, and if they dont go down, they arent recovering and will lose anyway. Whereas for MMA and other combat sports, they last longer, meaning cardio is absolutely crucial, among many, many other differences. But the cardio is what got Kimbo though. Dada too. Man it was sad. Hate to say it but honestly it was completely pathetic. And then to make it even worse, Kimbo passes away shortly after. Heart failure as a result of that fight, that he didn't even do anything in... he must have felt so ridiculously ashamed and embarrassed those last few weeks of his life, makes me sad to even think about. No man wants to be seen like that, especially not the man everyone know as one of the most intimidating badazz street fighters ever... but he went out like that, at 42 no less. Made 2 things very clear to me 1) Combat sports and street fights are two completely different things, and 2) Steroids are very, very bad for you Because those steroids are absolutely what caused all that and did his heart in. Too much for too long, most likely coupled with some genetic predispositions to heart problems, and now a 42 yo fighter everyone respects and fears is 110% gasses in a couple seconds and then spends the rest of the fight stumbling around like a drunk 90 year old man and then passes away right after. Something was so obviously wrong with him, and nothing was happening anyway, it was so embarrassing and he clearly was having very serious health issues. They should have just called him and stopped the embarrassment and possibly made him lived years longer than he did. Such a shame. RIP Kimbo. You were a beast.
I’m in my late 20s. I think the first video I ever watched on RUclips was kimbo slice. The realest thing I ever watched, taught me a lot. Respect to Kimbo slice.
Kimbo was the real reason why I love MMA. He introduced a whole generation to a bloodsport, with a sort of sportsmanship that was unspoken of. He held himself high even in his lowest points, and for this we remember him. Rest in paradise Kimbo.
A man provides, and Kimbo definitely provided both for his family and a hell of a fight. Amazing a guy starting on bum fights could go that far. I'm sure he's in heaven now.
I just want to say what a great episode about Kimbo. I'm 46 and remember how impactful Kimbo was to the internet generation. Much as Ken Block was to the car culture. Two great men and idols who helped shape an entire generation of fans.
The Kimbo vs Sean Gannon fight is still, to this day, an iconic backyard fight which still gets talked about. Kimbo just missed the boat with MMA and came to it too late... But the man is still a legend. RIP.
Kimbo lived in my neighborhood after he was famous. Every time I ran into him he always wanted to talk about his kids schooling, what college they were in and their majors etc. Not what I expected TBH:

Brings back memories of early RUclips. I remember watching Kimbo fights with coworkers in the office. Seemed like a great guy, too bad he didn't get started in MMA a little earlier in life.
"Slice dropping Cantrell like names on a hollywood party" is a goated commentary line
What does he mean by that
people at Hollywood parties drop names(so just name) of famous people they know/worked with to make themselves seem more important
RUclips wouldn’t monetize his street fight vids today haha The weak minded people wouldn’t let him thrive either.
Hey brother, spell check.
Amateur not armature.
You have a great comment and just want you to be appreciated for it.
I was a young adult and I don't think my perspective.
@@T8RZTOTZ Sorted, cheers mate
@@korbensemaganis He had about 25 millions views back in the day i remember, especially the one when the guys eye was hanging out.
Made 2 things very clear to me
1) Combat sports and street fights are two completely different things, and
2) Steroids are very, very bad for you
Because those steroids are absolutely what caused all that and did his heart in.
Bro was the peoples champion b4 he hit the UFC n always will be 🙌💚🙌
Chuuuuch!
I'm a simple man. I see Kimbo Slice, I click play

How is this untold? It's literally the only thing people say about him.
Top notch work vice 💪🏼
This episode just made me an official new subscriber to vice. Remembering and honoring the great kimbo slice!!! Thank you so much
A story like this reminds me how fantastic, crazy and beautiful life is ❤ RIP Mr. Slice
"Trunk hit hard like Kimbo Slice!" Dorrough Ice Cream Paint Job
RIP.
When RUclips didn’t have ads
Kimbo was the baddest man alive when his backyard fights first leaked. He had a legendary run!
they weren't leaked they released them purposely
@ I meant to say released instead of leak. I messed up
Facts 💯
Man, if bare knuckle was legit back then. He would have been the undisputed heavyweight champ for as long as he wanted to!
Kimbo lived in my neighborhood after he was famous. Every time I ran into him he always wanted to talk about his kids schooling, what college they were in and their majors etc. Not what I expected TBH:
thank you for making this, so nice to see the full story
44:38 he was and will always be a big fighter
Rip Kimbo had no idea he was such a nice guy with the people around him!
the intro goes hard🔥
This is an amazing tribute. Thank you for this video.
Thank you "Kimbo Slice", for being the great human being that you were.
What an inspiration...
Legendary amongst early RUclips users and groups of young men who would sit around one friends computer in an AOL Chat Room - watching Kimbo Slice, while reading the Anarchist Cook Book.
Those were the years!
would of loved to see him fight the Paul, brothers at the same time.
This was so good. I’m not crying you’re crying.
