John 12:50, God's commandments means eternal life. To know God is to know what he likes and his dislikes. Christ said "if you love me keep my commandments ". Keep means not to get rid of it. Keep means it (my commandments) becomes yours. You take ownership. When someone loves God, he will do what God likes and avoid what God dislikes. Someone who loves God will keep God's commandments. God's commandments become yours to keep not to get rid of it. It leads to eternal life with God. God's commandments is the way to God. Christ obeyed God all the way to the cross. Matthew 5:17, Christ declares he came to fulfill the laws and the prophets. Therefore we should follow Christ because he is the way, the truth and the life. Christ is the way to God.
