Man I haven’t owned an 8th Gen in 2 years and I still enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
Appreciate that! What are you driving nowadays?
Another good way I found to change the oil filter without making a mess on these engines is to use a piece of tin foil and bend around the axle boot and another piece on the back side of the engine in front of the axle boot. Tin foil are cheap, easy to bend in shape and oil would just slide right off and into the drain pan underneath
They actually sell something that’s called a flexible funnel, it’s a life saver! But I like how you were creative to get some tin foil for the same purpose as the flexible funnel ! 🤞🏽
thats another reason why i stick to 90s civic because they have so much room around engine. you can literally see vtec solenoid and everything on back by standing near fender. whole k series longblock is like 6 inches or 1ft away from firewall.
Love me some Honda bond 💯 Fixed my R18’s oil leak coming from the timing chain tensioner and was driving it 3-4 hours later. Best RTV out there.
It is by far the best and only thing I use on my Honda 🤙🏼... Glad your r18 is fixed
permatex ultra grey rtv works fine too.
Nice Job Gerb!, thanks for show how to chabge the Vtec Gasket !
🔥🔥🔥🔥Welcome back Gerb missed your wrenching videos brodi 💯
Ur vids rlly help me fix my car cuz I run into the same stuff. Thanks again broski
always a great video gerb! same issue with my k24, oil pressure switch going to be doing same !
Thanks man 🙏🏼
awesome vid GERB! keep it up! Always us hondabond for the oil pressure switch never use Teflon it can still cause leakage but also risk cross threading fine threads in that location. Also how many qrts of oil you use? I find that my k24 swap fa5 takes about 5.5q
Thanks for the info! Mine uses about 5-5.5 qt. K24 seems to take slightly more being larger displacement and taller deck.
I litterally just did this Sunday too!
It's a pain!
I don't want to do this again lol
At least someone can relate to what I went through lol
Lmao
Yoo my k24a was leaking too !!
It was my vtec solenoide gasket😅
Damn, common k24 oil leak issues lol
I have an fa5 k20a2 head k24 a2 block type s oil pump made a huge difference.
I'm going to send my k20 head off to the machine shop over the winter. Still may order a pump too
Keeping midnight happy
Trying too, so she takes care of me 🙏🏼
@@TheGerbsteve true story man
hey man I been watching ur vids for a year or more and I had eyes on getting an si for a long time.....you and other people on RUclips Nd seeing people rolling around in my city made me buy one finally.
I also swapped a k24a2 in my fg2. I have some questions about this car that maybe you could answer or offer advice about. What Is the best way to contact you thru email or instagram? and I ain’t tryna be annoying I just would like to learn more and everything I can about building this car and obviously the goal is go forced induction in end. You are very knowledgeable and great at explaining shit .Thanks bro keep up the videos as they help out a lot!
Lining up the VTEC solenoid to find the bolt holes is so frustrating, as I found out.
Happy for you. 👍 by the way, do you do anything to preserve the paint/clear coat? My si has been non-garaged for about 8 years now and the roof clear is trashed. Just thought I’d ask, assuming midnight isn’t garaged?
Wrap teflon tape around the oil pressure switch for 100% worry free leak. However mine on the 2011 civic si black coupe just leaked random like a faucet weird as can be almost destroyed my motor ha rubbish not sure why it leaked internal for.
Hey! Thanks for all your videos! Invaluable stuff!
Let me ask you mate, where is the engine coolant sensor 1 located in the K20Z3? Other than the radiator bottom one.
Thanks!!
Been waitin on this vid for a while.
🔥huge effort Bro 💯🔥 👌🏼 ... but I still want to see the hidden footage where you were cuss’n 🤣🤣🤣
He already knew 🤣🤣... There were some words that were said during the process, especially getting the spool valve back on haha
@@TheGerbsteve omg Bro 😭 you were so controlled 👌🏼💯
I’ve got a small leak around that area. I may be feeling your pain this weekend! Did your leak get resolved?
You do know you can run pennzoil ultra platinum synthetic don't you? It's just as good 👍
Might as well change the oil pressure switch If you take out the cowl around the windshield it’s easier to reach it from the top
Nice to see a wrenching vid. If you Supercharge Midnight that would be insane. Great Vid Bruh. Never Stop Wrenching.... 🥃
I miss wrenching sometimes.... I agree, nice 400hp beast lol. Thanks for the support
@@TheGerbsteve You're Welcome!
Whats the part number for the oil pressure switch??
Bro I love your videos, thank you for always wrenching 👍
Thanks for all the support
I got a p2646 code. Vtec oil pressure switch circuit low voltage. Going to check the solenoid filter gasket. Not sure if I should replace my oil pressure switch. Have found a lot of conflicting fixes and mainly for k24 not k20z3. I have an 07 si
How bad were you leaking? I have a leak also but can't pin point it. I change the gasket to vtec solenoid already.
It seemed bad, but it never left drips on the ground. I'd say half/quart every 5k miles.
💯 Keep wrenching
Coilovers and maybe supercharger coming soon 😎🤙🏼
@@TheGerbsteve oh man that would be hard!!! I got that k20 head on the tsx just need a tune but still rips!!! I’m going turbo Eventually but super charging would be so much easier seems like
Hell yah I’m glad you got that fixed 💯
Just did a video on this not long ago, had a little slit on the bottom gasket
My solenoid gasket is giving me issues too. K24Z3 TSX. Booking a bay for the end of the month to put a new cylinder head on, so I’m gonna wait until then. It’ll feel like an eternity though! VTec won’t kick in, yo! Not until July... 😆
Never any fun without vtec kicking in lol
i had to plasti dip my hood and trunk yours still looking good. AMS is the best, there trans fluid made a big difference for me.
Does the jdm k24 sit lower then the k24a2.?? 🤔 I have a k24a2 and can't fit the shield that goes under the wiper cow.
Hey Gerb do you trust the Amsoil signature series’s to go the 25k or 1 year in your kseries? If so y so? If not y not? I’d think you’d like to get your money’s worth because Signature series is pricey!
No, especially with the way i drive. I can see 8k, maybe 10k being more logical. Still change my oil every 6k though... I'm ocd with that lol. You have to think, if you constantly rev or race means increased rpm = more heat and imo will break down oils faster, making them dirtier.
Search up this part number: VSB02C000033 (Honda OEM Part used at dealerships) this is the oil deflector you seek for the crappy filter location. I use it and it works great on my 2007 Honda Civic Si. K20. Let me know if you have any questions. There is a hole at the top of the deflector that sits on a metal corner (on the car) to hold it in place.
Great viodeo gerb.. How tight did you do the presure switch
Thanks man. I just did hand tight with the deep socket. Seems to have fixed my oil leak 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thank you for the response.. Gerb.. I plan doing that next week
Anyone figured out the leak on the driver side back side of motor
Yo gerb did you put spacers on the rear motor mount bracket? I thought I saw washers on them.
Yeah, did a little mod
@@TheGerbsteve How many washers did you put on each bolt?
Bro did the leak ended up stopping after these repairs?
Unfortunately not
Gerb... If you dont have any amc BUY A STOCK OF AMC TOMORROW ASAP..
I have about 20 shares man. Why, what you think the price will be ??
would the k24z7 be in the same place for the oil pressure switch?
Same spot, yes
someone get this man some hasport mounts!!!
I have a bottom hasport mount, just have to install her 😎
@@TheGerbsteve hell yeah! that rear mount is a pain, enjoy the struggle lol
Gerb you are the fucking man!!! Midnight JR just recently went into limp mode, pulled codes with hondata and pulled code p2647 Im waiting for the dealership to open back up so I can order a new solenoid, But do you have any recommendations on that specific code? I honestly just the other day was browsing through your videos hoping you had one where you took apart the vtec solenoid and todays the day!!!
How many miles your si have?
@@dylon8425 bout 174k
My k20 is at 175k too. Ik these cars burn oil n stuff, but I’d like to do what gerb did in this video,(preventative maintenance. Do you have any idea what happened when that code came up?
@@dylon8425 Yeah that high of miles im running a little thicker oil... but The car went into limp mode with a check engine light, vsa light came on and it wont go past 4000rpm it just cuts right off... so im still in the process of waiting for the honda dealership to contact me back about a rear passenger trailing arm
why what is yours doing?
Hahaha, thanks man. Personally, I'd have to look it up first to give you any advice. Hopefully yours is just a clogged screen or something small. Hope my vid helps you out
my civic keeps going through aftermarket starters, i just put in a new aftermarket one in but i’m scared it’ll go out like the last one
Sounds like you may have some sort of electrical short
WHERE ARE YOUR JACK STANDS???!
Ok, ypu added them later
Did it fix the leak issue?
Unfortunately, it didn't
@@TheGerbsteve did you ever find the source of the leak?
So did it fix it or what?
For a week lol
Why 6 quartz? Dont the k series only take 5?
5 quarts in engine, 1 quart for back up if I need to add
@@TheGerbsteve Hi Gerb, I just changed engine oil on my FA5 for the first time watching your previous video.
I put 5 qt and the oil is still just above the bottom dot on the dipstick. Wasn’t sure if I should add more. But I think total 6 qt is required.
Thanks
@Bryson Hudson i get what you mean lol but 5 is good enough bro. Overfilling could cause the crank to start making the oil foam and youll soon need a swap
@Bryson Hudson haha the truth.. I felt like mine burned up .4 of a quart just starting up after an oil change im like why isnt this shit showing up on my dipstick haha
Wheels ?
Xxr 527’s
6 qts??
Sure is
@@TheGerbsteve 2 for you or what? Lol you flush with the 2? Cuz both my k24’s only take like 4 qts lol maybe that’s why you got an oil leak bro you putting too much oil in my boy
@@krayzie281 may want to check your engine recommendation. K20’s take 4.7, so how are you only adding 4 in lol. Sounds like you’re not putting enough in my dude, but good luck.
@@TheGerbsteve mine both take 4.5 and so far so good 170k on one 97k on another 💪🏾
Sup gerb
Sup man
That's a vtec solenoid not spool
You can call it either or
AMC stock bro for more mods, videos, 💰 ams oil etc
WE Ape strong 🦍🍾
In the future our crypto will bless us
I hate leaks too always fix them quick
Honda For Life Egb18b1 Fg2k20z3
I bought some AMC ;).. Wonder what the price will go up to? My favorites are BTC, Eth, and a few others. Lets goooo!
Honda for life, k series for life, all chassis
Haha I just use the cheapest synthetic oil name brands are a scam unless you are on a track waste of money
I was thinking of switching to shell rotella t6, 5w40.
Have you ever think how much money you save by doing it yourself?? A LOT!!!!!
I have !! Engine swap, valve adjustments, brakes, starters, etc.. happy that I have some mechanical skills 🤙🏼
