You need to state the exact build date. My 8 gen si coupe 2008 has TWO STUDS for manifold bolts which do not allow for the intake manifold to clear the main bracket on the left, as this video shows.
Geez that's a lot of work taking off the stock intake manifold. I have a RSX type-s and swapped the PRB for a PRC and it was very straight forward super simple.
@@TheGerbsteve im thinkin of taking mine off to polish it, but after watching your vid i might polish with it attached, like holy fk that looks harder removing it than polishing it in the car. yikes.
I had my RBC cleaned when I had it port matched to the J35. I've done some engine bay clean up on my own too. I've replaced a ton of rusty bolts/screws, bought some titanium fasteners from Speedfactory Racing. Most of my 10 mil bolts have been replaced with burnt titanium, also replaced my valve cover fasteners with burnt titanium as well. The most recent thing I did was replace the battery relocation bracket (that came with my Hybrid Racing 3.5 intake) and the Optima yellow top battery with a PasswordJDM mini battery bracket and Odyssey 680 mini dry cell battery. I shed over 20lbs switching batteries out. The Odyssey 680 only weighs 16lbs. I'm selling the HR battery relocation bracket and the Optima yellow top. I'm in Greenville, SC area.
I just put my HR intake in. Was your battery sitting against your lower radiator hose? And did you put the battery tie down on or just let it ride? I live in SC too. Haha so not to far away
@@danielmerck1511 It was hitting my clutch line forcing it to bend/turn at an odd angle, the Optima is just too big. The battery is meant more for someone with a huge car audio system, etc because this battery can handle running more without a strain on the system. I have the HR hoses, had no issues with the battery hitting any of those.
I'm following his guide now to polish my intake manifold. going to make it mirror shine. I've seen someone else do it and it looks amazing on the SI. especially when you leave off the plastic cover
Nice video. You're showing exactly what I want to see. All the details. Everything is in focus and exposure is right enough. An no announcements like "i don't know if you can see this but..."
well good thing i looked it up first i git the aluminum radiator and a type r intake manifold i was gonna do one at a time so guess ill do both and the fuel rail
Where the hell is Wild Man Bill on the Hill ? Backyard Bill your supposed to have Steve’s back... man what a day what Intake are you doing ? I hope you are getting massive results, also good to say you’ve done it, my car has been in the south most of its life so hoping corrosion isn’t that bad, great video abrupt ending ? Hope to use your info and soak some stuff and drain some hoses prior to removal thanks for the info looking forward to part 2
Gerb I am watching this again because I'm doing it right now, and I'm curious how you learned what all those hoses do. How did you get your automotive education? it's very impressive.
I’m taking mine off right now, is it normal to have only one stud on the upper part of where the manifold bolts to the head? Because I have a stud over to the left where you had a bolt, and the manifold won’t fit past the pulley bracket! I was at it for hours before giving up
@@bogartthegod1177 no. I had to wait until my motor was out. I recommend cutting the stud and replacing it with a bolt, you can then pivot it around the other stud and remove it. Helps for future removals too! The tread patter is really common just take the nut that came off the stud to the store and find one that threads on. I think it’s 8mm standard thread, might not remember correctly though
The K20 will never die. How come all of a sudden you wanna do a K24? It's a 8th gen bro that's what's so special about that car. Your definitely buggin. No more 8,500 rpm rippin. Your gonna kick yourself in the ass if you do it. I promise
Must remove the stud on the passenger side top of the intake manifold to get it out. First of all Gerb love your content and thanks for this video. My son and I are SC his 8th gen and were using your vid to remove the intake manifold and could not get the intake past the hard coolant line under the intake with the coolant hose still attached. Then I noticed in your video you did not have the stud on the passenger side in and that's how you removed it so easily. Just wanted to help the next guy that uses this.
Nice video brother your getting better and better with the vidoes man. Thought I should update what going on with my car. Had the valve adjustment done cause I couldn't get em perfect. But once it was done it revealed another noise. From the fuel injection I put the 600c destschwerks in and ran the hondata calibration. Noise is ALOT better had a failing injector or a couple. Runs great but it's parked till I can get a real tune. Really liked the pulls. . Bro our cars will eat your hands and arms up!!! Blood , sweat and tears lol. Frustrating sometimes.
Trying my best broski 🤙🏼... it’s so tricky to get it right, took me two tries. I want some rdx 410cc injectors eventually. Once I figure out my next intake, maybe injectors, I’ll get Midnight tuned. Wish you the best of luck homie 💪🏼
Yo Gerb did you do the coolant bypass? I was doing some research they said the purpose of coolant in the TB keeps it from freezing up when it gets cold. I live in Jersey otherwise I’d do it with no concern
K20 are bullet proof. I beat mine for 80k miles, multiple tunes, traveling miles, etc. I thought it would die on me due to the previous owner, but it still runs even at 200k. I went k24 for the lower end torque.
@@TheGerbsteve okay gotcha. I recently bought an FA5 with 202k miles stock and so far it’s been running smooth. I’m thinking about upgrading the clutch soon, maybe you can help me do it, I’m in Boston not too far from CT.
@@TheGerbsteve maybe you can help me I'm getting a rough idle with my car after I did the rdx injectors my idle goes up and down non stop after the car warms up
@@braappaholic Not really, the factory ground for the injectors is on the manifold. At least on the K20A2 it is. Having installed KPro on my car, I now understand why this was done.
It's not that bad man. I felt really discouraged when I had mine fully took apart just the transmission was under the hood. I took notes and kept bolts in Ziploc bags labeled to where they went. All kinds of new parts alot of money and I was freaking out. But like gerb says once u get started its gets going. When u do the k24 u gonna use the k20 head? Or u gonna do the long block?
I get $50 you get $50

Yep same but not only the studs the metal coolant hose from thermostat housing too...which involves a shit ton of other stuff coming off too

Yes. All K series manifolds are interchangeable.
damn no smoking this gonna be stressfull
aah yes, custom ground wire that grounds the valve cover which sits on a rubber gasket
