Lyrics
On the mantelpiece there’s a scrap of leather, like a half remembered truth, or lie. And there’s a photograph of a sunlit garden and a sword that seemed to burn with light. The way is closed now and I can’t go home. Near the fireplace, black with soot and sorrow and the absence of synecdoche, there’s a whetted axe with a weathered handle, and the weight of it is dear to me. The way is closed now and I can’t go home- but what if I just let go?

Epitaph Records is an artist-first indie label founded in Los Angeles by Bad Religion guitarist, Brett Gurewitz. Early releases from a variety of punk heavyweights helped launch the 90s punk explosion. Along the way, Epitaph has grown and evolved creatively while sticking to its mission of helping real artists make great recordings on their own terms.

This just lowkey snuck in as one of the best thrice songs ever
This song is a masterpiece, may be one of my favorite Thrice songs ever.
My favourite song of the year and probably my favourite album as well.
I first listened to this song a little after my grandmother passed, so I associate that period in my life with this track. I think this whole album was fantastic, but this particular song resonates with me on a deeper level. The tone and the way it blows up and escalates at the end, the bass. Its like a period of a week for me captured in 5 minutes.
This has to be the best song on the album.
Ok Ok Ok Ok Ok Ok i concede...after the 4th listen...this is good. very good...dear I say excellent. And yet again thrice fails to disappoint.
Dam takes me back to when I was a teenager stoned in my room with black lights and stars all over my room. The whole world ahead of me. I wish I knew that little again. I wish I was that hopeful again
They really outdid themselves on this album
From the "What if I just let go" and on it gives me chills! This song is beautiful lyrically and instrumentaly, well done.
Totally mesmerised by this sensational song! They just keep getting better!
Doesn't matter how old these guys get, how many albums they crank out, the sound is FRESH.
Been listening to these two songs and am thinking:
Still Life: Man who has a dark past he is trying to come to terms with.
Dandelion Wine: Man who is distracting himself with simple pleasures to prevent addressing deeper issues.
Still figuring out the stories for the other songs and the album in general. What are your guys' thoughts?
Very interesting, and I agree. It seems like he is remembering his past while romanticizing certain parts of it at the same time, with the "Half remembered truth, or lie." He making up grandiose things about his past to compensate for the wrong things he's done. But the, "The weight of it (the axe) is dear to me" is saying that he still loves his past and wrongdoings, as dark as they are, because they made who he is. That's what I gather.
it reminds me Soundgarden in Down On The Upside
Thrice and Deftones, been around a long time and each of their albums are different and great. Stood the test of time!
Love deftones since I was 12 or13. I'm 38 now. Amazing. Same with thrice
Sort of late to the party, yet there is a Drumeo video where the drummer from Billy Joel plays a Deftones song...and it is kinda awesome.
Definitely my favorite Thrice song.
Sometimes it feels like my life depends on your music. It's woken me up and I hold it very dear to me. Thank you thrice for such a beautiful picture in your music. You're part of why I made it through returning from darkness to light. Music speaks to me in so many ways and I thank you for the beauty in your art.
huge Failure vibes in here, loved it!
might be my favourite from Horizons / East
Failure! Great band! Good call. I hear some balance and composure
This.. This is what I enjoy from music. You have limited lyrics, but it speaks. The instruments have control of this song and it's amazing.
Absolutely incredible
Whoa. My favorite so far.
What an amazing day. New Thrice & Spirtbox
Word
Definitely recommend checking out Eidola and The Plot In You. Both great bands that also dropped albums on Friday.
Can't get enough of this riff
i wished this was just a long musical piece without vocals. chords and notes are so beautiful
I get big Night Diving vibes from this songs, so yea, instrumental would be great!
@@ryanjohnson1914 I love Night Diving. One of my favorites!
One of my favorite bands drops a genre defining album the same week my favorite hip hop artist (Lupe Fiasco) drops a tease for his new album... life is fucking great right now.
Dustin: *looks at still life painting* hmm I could make a song about that.
This song deserves my like and my soul.
Radiant and melancholy vibration
I was just listening to identity crisis. Theyve definitely evolved.

This is wild
Siento vibras al estilo Soundgarden y Seether
