Developing a new Marionette

A brief run-through of some of the steps I take when creating a new piece. There is a lot of testing and experimenting that goes into each stage of the process. As much pre-visualization as I do, there is a huge component of play.

FUCK YES!! God I cannot wait. With those tentacles in place, thats the magic that makes you not sure for a moment if what your looking at is alive or not. So, so neat. Reminds me of the feeling of watching the the dark crystal for the first time. Oh , not sure what the proper term is, but the "pattern" of the wood you have arranged/ encouraged/allowed/whatever...awesome.

My inspiration was looking at an aged wooden rope pulley from a tall ship. (The Balclutha) It had been made from several pieces of different wood and was then blasted by 120 years of salt water and high wind.

Thanks. I agree collaborations would be great. I even *like* snow but I like Portland even better (And we occasionally get snow) There is always the opportunity for snail-mail collaborations exquisite corpse style.

When I make something there is a lot of experimentation that goes into determining the final look. This video covers some of the less planned parts of making a marionette.
