    The quest for the perfect bike is never ending. We want power, smoothness, stability, and carrying capacity. Yet we also want smallness and lightness for easily moving and lifting. But physics puts those characteristics at odds so we're left to compromise.
    Which way to lean depends on the type of riding primarily engaged in. Larger bike characteristics for paved roads and smaller bike characteristics for unpaved. South American countries have plenty of both.
    If navigating rough surfaces slippery and inclined, crossing through rivers, blasting through mud and sand, stuff like that is the goal, then giving up bigger bike comfort for weight reduction makes sense. If those conditions are to be a rare occurrence while paved twisties and roadways are to be the norm, then maybe not so much.
    I've always wished for the ability to morph my bike from a big powerful asphalt conquerer to a light nimble dirt blaster at the push of a button while out riding, but alas, that technology has yet to be developed. 😂
    As for selling the beemer, it's a perfect opportunity for someone wanting to run central America and Mexico to get back home. And while there's someone out there with the means itching to do just that, getting your message to that person is the challenge. I've heard of this kind of scenario happening in Argentina after reaching Ushuaia. There are of course logistics involved in getting a signed title to the buyer, getting paid, and the buyer has to get it titled, registered, and insured in their name. But where there's a will, there's a way.
    Suppose the sale goes through, then what bike to buy in Colombia? I expect you're aware that prices for the quality of bikes we're accustomed to, when you can find them, are considerably higher. And you'd want an idea of what you're looking for. And then you'd have to outfit the bike. If that all sounds appealing then it'll be an adventure, otherwise it could be a headache. Of course you could pick up a little Chinese bike fairly cheaply, take a giant loop or similar back with you and strap that on. It's not what you're used to but you could make it work.
    I'm thinking seat height on your current bike is probably the biggest impediment to successful handling in tippy situations. There are aftermarket replacement lower links that drop the rear suspension to get your feet closer to the ground. Some are for a fixed amount and some are adjustable. Lowering sacrifices ground clearance and suspension travel but unless you're hammering the trails fast and hard (and you're not) you won't mind at all, if you even notice. But getting your foothold is a massive confidence booster and allows you to access places you'd otherwise fear to dare.
    I couldn't get tired of watching you show what you're packing. I enjoyed that and didn't feel bored at all. It's like bonus content that's a special treat. You did a great job on exposing that essential topic. Your level of preparedness is corresponding to your substantial experience. You can't take everything you might need so that's where judgement of balance comes in. Better safe than sorry applies to not having enough as well as carrying too much. Educated guess is the best one can do.
    And a big kudos for being particular about what you put in your mouth. You want to increase your odds of having an able future while enjoying present experiences at hand. Anything you happen to opine about will spark some kind of controversy with someone. It's just human nature, so ya might as well stand for something. Plus, when your channel name contains "mindbody" then it's a trigger alert that those things are important to you and it should be no surprise to find you extolling the virtues of both of these critical aspects of life. And of course you of all people would know those two things are inextricably linked, the well-being of each dependent upon the other.
    So yeah, taking a stand will generate comments pro and con; as long as you're willing to entertain differences of opinion and be open to questioning and potentially learning, which is what a healthy mind does, then some discussions on topics can be healthy. Of course there'll always be the trolls and a-holes to deal with as well, you just have to remember that insults speak of those uttering them and not who they're directed at. "Don't take anything personally" is one of the four agreements to live by.
    I keep adding to this; apologies if it's too much at a time. Anyway however it turns out is for the best. Enjoy your time back home. Watch your back shoveling snow 😂 and we look forward to seeing you on the next one. Blessings!

    been watching you since after your first few videos (I binge watched and caught up,lol) Yes, I would enjoy seeing what you travel with. My longest trips have only been for 12 days, so I'm curious to see what you bring since you live off of yours. Also, glad to hear you want to search out official training for your style of bike. Technique would help you be the master of your bike, no matter the size. Don't know if you've heard of Jocelin Snow, but she's 5'1.5" and rides and teaches using big adventure bikes. Best of luck with your "dirty secret" lol.... and keep the VLogs coming!

    I am also excited for smaller bike! I bet you will love it. And if you get an aircooled one, which i think most of the smaller engine ones in Latin America are, than you don't even need to lug around coolant, another space/weight saving. I am curious what the procedure of buying it, registering and insuring will be, please cover that in your vids so we can learn from it.

I say this because you appear so far to have a unique aptitude for getting nicely through every other problematic issue that you have confronted, and I would like to think you will continue doing so. • @terrycavender
    @terrycavender 5 месяцев назад

    Dang! I thought this was going to be a new secret! 🙄 I remember when you were weighing your options a while back. Yup, your bike is too heavy, not really built for the conditions you have been riding in, it's essentially a street bike. The panniers are part of the problem, I remember looking at the specs on them when you were discussing the weight of the bike, I think they weigh over 40 pounds per pair.... As for protection when you drop the bike, yes, they do provide some protection. I dropped mine last week for the second time in 6,000 miles, my foot slipped on gravel in a parking lot outside of Oaxaca city, in front of other bikers... 😕 Now I have scuff marks on both corners of my panniers. I would go simple and air-cooled, if you get a different bike, a Hero, Vento, Bajaj, Italka, or similar, much lighter. No fluids to carry for cooling. Speaking of fluids.... WD 40 can work as a chain cleaner, and you can use gear oil to lube your chain. Fort 9 did videos on cleaning and lubing chains a while back. Waiting to see what's next....

    • @MindBodyMotoGirl

    If you part with the BMW, what bike would you like to replace it with? I saw someone below who recommended a bunch of Chinese knockoff bikes and I think those are terrible choices - I would stick to Honda, maybe CRF300L or maybe Kawasaki KLX 230 or 300 (but not Suzuki - the quality is not there) as long as it fits your height, and service and parts are widely available on your anticipated routes. I enjoy the videos, but I wish there was no background music - I'd rather hear the street noise or quiet or whatever - the music seems like an artificial thing in the context to me. But they're your videos. Thanks and please stay safe and healthy.

    I cringed when I first saw your videos with you on your tippy-toes holding up such a heavy motorcycle while riding the un-forgiving roads of Latin America. You need a lighter weight bike with a low seat height that you can pick up and one that won't crush you should it fall on your leg. If you can't sell it in Panama, can you ship it back to the U.S. where it would be easier to sell? You really need to move on from that bike -for safety and enjoyment. I've ridden through Mexico a few times and even a 300cc bike is huge for Latin American standards. You need a bike with good torque that will go 60mpg max. There are no freeways in Latin American so you don't need a powerful ride - and yes, training will help.
