    You made a good choice. The Himalayan 411 is too heavy and rides like a tank. Your Honda is built in South America to fit your riding style too. I like that you (your bike) lost weight, top-heaviness, and seat height. Your confidence will grow as will your off-pavement skills. I sold my heavy Yamaha Tenere 700 for a lighter and more agile KTM 390 Adventure so I know what you mean when you describe your delight in riding your new lighter 300XRE. I look forward to your adventures on this ride.

    Great choice! Honda reliability... you can't beat.
    It's cool to see that you are pleased with your new bike and luggage set up. Personally I'd lose the top case and replace it with a med sized dry bag. 20 to 25 liters, or so. Keeps the weight down low and will still keep out the elements.
    You should trust your instincts with the color...what's pleasing to your eye, I believe is important, but it will not change the fact that your adventure will not be less awesome!
    Look forward to following your videos and future stories.
    Be safe, take care!

    YES...SO glad you didn't choose the Himalayan. The Honda was a rock solid choice. It will be more reliable and service options will be more abundant, as will parts. Lighter, too, which is ideal for you. Those who would have put you on a Himalayan, I think, go for appearance beyond function, for your specific needs.

    • @Oldman.Roaming
      @Oldman.Roaming 3 месяца назад

      Wrap it in another color and done. The Himalayan is more my type since its simply rock strong, and it is super reliable, but honda is honda and you’ll be better off with this one since its lower. Good job!

      @@Oldman.Roaming The Himalayan is nowhere near as reliable. My local dealer, for example, has them in regular, both for warranty and non-warranty work, but almost never sees Hondas for more than tires, fluid changes and brakes pads.

    Congratulations on the new bike! Looks like a good choice for you and your travels "LIFE" !!
    You find that the top case is very useful and you will soon fill it without realizing it. I am sure that you will not put heavy things in it but you will find that it is great for sunglasses, gloves, maps, water, a camera, generally small light things that you want to have quick access to. And the fact that it locks is the best part.
    Enjoy the next part of your adventures and thank you for sharing them with us.

    Fantastic bike and great video. You'll be happy with the XRE. I have rented that bike a couple of times from Jeff in Medellin at Colombia Moto Adventures. Even though I'm 6'3'...it still felt pretty good. I ride a GS here and my wife used to have a 650 GS single cyl. just like you. She has a GS 750 now "factory low" . I was excited to see that you could get an XRE to work for your frame. My wife is 5'2' as well and we have plans to ride in Colombia together. I always thought she would need to find a 200cc bike to ride when we get down there. Thanks for the great video!!

    • @MindBodyMotoGirl
      @MindBodyMotoGirl  3 месяца назад

      Ahhh I love hearing that! Especially coming from you and your wife’s experience w the GS, I loved mine so much. I also love knowing your wife is 5’2” too, as I’m always dreaming of motorcycles, I have thought the 750 lowered could be a good option for me too in certain areas. I test rode the XRE that wasn’t lowered and also found it fine. Without so much weight it’s not so hard to manage it on my toes. So for your trip I think it could still be a great option for her! Either way the guys in Bogota could adjust the bike for her and then adjust it back afterwards (but not just anyone can do this). If you ever need contacts, I’m happy to share. About to do a short video including a guy who is amazing to connect with in Bogota

    Good to see you finding something that fits you better. There are a lot of shorter youtubers who are always trying to prove they can ride anything. While you can, a bike that fits you is easier, safer an gives you confidence. I want to enjoy riding. I dont want it to be work, an I have nothing to prove. So I ride bikes I can flat foot an weigh less than 500 pounds. I can ride bigger, but its not as fun, so why would I?

    Great bike choice and although your grey/purple sounds like something I would love, I actually do like the blue/purple. It's quite unique looking and does not come across as bright to me at all. I am 6'2" so you have my complete sympathy and respect at 5'2". Frankly I don't know how you do it! I am really enjoying your travels and look forward to more. :)

    Nice choice. The is nice. Let it grow on you. Just a rider suggestion here; be careful not to stop with the wheels straddling lower ground. If you’re already reaching for the ground it will only take a small hole where you plant your foot to throw you off balance. Have fun. Keep your mind on what other road users are doing.

    Congratulations to Honda. As far as I know, the XRE 300 is only available in South America. But it corresponds to a CRF 300 Rally, which is perfect in quality and use. The color is almost irrelevant. The bike will be dirty every day and the color will not be visible. The huge top case could shift the center of gravity further back. Even more important to stand.

    • @MindBodyMotoGirl
      @MindBodyMotoGirl  3 месяца назад

      Yes!! One of the reasons I liked it too, fun to experience something that’s only in S. America. Haha very good point! 😂
      Definitely good to consider about the center of gravity, I plan to keep it mostly empty most of the time but I do need to consider my weigh since I carry quite a bit. Thanks!

    Hey Tammy. I think the bike is a way better fit for you.
    Are you going to be riding plenty of dirt trails?.... perhaps the tires could have a bit more of an aggressive tread on them? Are you putting an extended wind shield on the front?
    Happy and safe travels from New Zealand.

    • @MindBodyMotoGirl
      @MindBodyMotoGirl  3 месяца назад

      Thank you!! We shall see where my heart takes me but I love the flexibility to be able to. Very true, my plan was to wear out the tires they came with and probably put a more aggressive thread when I need to change them. Same w windshield, there was a little slowness in some things in Bogota which lead to not being able to get the windshield so I figured I’d get it out on later down the line! Love the thoughtfulness! Thanks Matt!

    "Gal" is fine. It's like an adult girl; I believe you've earned that.
    Bike looks solid and well outfitted. Looks like a great fit and that it has the potential to produce many smiles per mile.
    Color only really matters when you're sitting around looking at the bike and thinking about riding. You don't see it when you ride. Looking well kept says what matters.
    I don't pay attention to bike names. I get that some people are really into that. I've had a lot of bikes starting at age ten and never named one. I still have over a dozen hanging around. One is a nineties xr250l which is probably functionally pretty close to your new 300. I registered it for one riding session so I could go trail riding while waiting to get time to split the cases on my xr650l and manage the internal repairs. Latest bike is a KTM 300 and it has a good bit more power than the 650 plus weighs over a hundred pounds less. It's a stellar dirt bike, not a travel bike. I'm also riding a very fast big street bike that's great for travel as long as it stays on the road. I'm ready to take some trips with my wife and some gear that include dirt roads so I'm looking for something in the class of the bike you sold.
    I'm pleased to see you have increased confidence. Things will happen to try to shatter that confidence, but maintain steadfastness and it'll be okay.
    You're starting in Bogotá, where will you go? You have a lot of options. Me, I'd head north. To the coast first. Ride the mountain dirt roads. See Medellín. Check out where Agustín of Soy Tribu went and more recently Carlos of Charly Sinewan. I'd be following Sinewan since he's not long to cross into Ecuador and I could get an idea of possibilities ahead.
    Whatever you do, do it with your loving graceful style!

      @MindBodyMotoGirl  3 месяца назад +1

      Smiles per mile love that! 😂 you’re right I only see the white while riding anyways. So interesting the ktm 300 is more powerful than the 650, amazing. Thanks so much, steadfast it is! Route coming up in next video! That sounds awesome excited for you and your wife and your upcoming travels!

      Sweet! I think it's great to have a route plan even though we know it's subject to modification at whim. It just makes sense to start with something which helps with overall perspective.
      My wife of 44 years is from Ecuador so we're hoping you'll spend time going all over, being well received, and enjoying every minute.
      Our eight year old grandson just had a wipeout on the TTR90 about a half hour ago. Kinda shook him up, but it's all part of learning. He's pretty good for his age and seat time but like his grandad he got to pushing the limits and we know how that goes. He got a little overconfident blowing away his brother on the PW50. Life lessons... 😯😎☮️

    You have picked the right motorcycle. Honda is the best. In South America, it is well known and it's a good choice when it comes to availability of workshops and spare parts.
    A point which many bike travellers underestimate: often it can be a disadvantage when you have a mechanic, who is unfamiliar with the brand. But with Honda you surely won't face this issue.

  • @hankweultjes2739

    Good choice. Honda is very reliable and has a big dealer network world wide. As far as the blue color by the time you ride it in the dirt and mud it will be grey. Just don't wash it lol. Ride safe and enjoy.
