I also just realized the reason kirari wanted midari's left eye in particular is because midari is left handed. Meaning her left eye is her dominant eye. Similar to a dominant hand losing your dominant eye has a greater impact.
That’s not how eye dominance works. I’m left handed and right eye dominant. I’m also cross dominant so I eat and write with my left hand but I throw and catch with my right.
You can check by making a triangle and putting a distant object in the center, close one eye and if it’s still in the center, that’s your dominant eye. If not, then your other eye is your dominant one.
Eye dominance isn’t related to handedness in any way but being dominant on both sides is a plus when it comes to things like shooting a rifle.

Kirari is, in my opinion, one of the best villains in anime. She's not motivated by revenge, money, or love. She wants to be entertained, she wants to plunge the academy into chaos and see who comes out on top. Kirari is a sociopath who gets enjoyment from the suffering of others and knows how to psychologically torture people.
She created the House Pet system simply because she was curious how things would play out. She rigs the game against Yumeko so that they both stay, because Yumeko understands how she gambles and what she wants in life, her twin flame. Kirari gets entertainment and amusement from watching others suffer and fall. That's what makes her a great villain.

Besides, Kirari's other dream is to be free of her family. I think for her, losing to her twin flame is going to be her true victory, because the family will be completely destroyed due to the humiliation the other members went through, and because Yumeko is even less interested than Kirari in running the family or the school.

I love her English dubbed voice the best. The original is too high pitched for me. Because Sarah's voice is deeper it makes midari's high pitched laughs of joy even more enjoyable because they stand out.

Fun fact: in the anime midari is heard saying "my left eye is blind" proving that she still has her left eye but it is just SEVERELY damaged. In the manga she straight up says to kirari "damn you! I plucked out my eye for you! Be happier about it!" indicating that it truely is gone and all she has left is a socket. As plucking is to remove something. Just interesting to know.

@@minxxd Yes. Midari is confirmed by the creators to be very smart and intelligent. She won numerous awards as a child because of her intelligence. She confirmed to be smarter than sayaka..in fact she told yuriko that sayaka "makes me sick" because all she did was study to become smarter despite never using the knowledge she gained. Midari can also make up gambles on the fly such as "hand knife trick" proving her smarts.
English midari is the best. Sarah got the growls of midari's anger and whimpers of pain down perfectly..

Midari is actually driven by her fears. She's just really good at hiding it. she fears feeling nothing in her life like she did before this gamble. Her recklessness is just a cover for this fear. She isn't afraid to die but is afraid of things like yumekos rejection and fears that her beautification members will be hurt by other people. She actually at one point bet her own life in place of a members during a game of Russian roulette. Placing the gun against her own head after seeing how scared the member was to shoot herself.

Sight is the most important of the 5 senses so losing it suddenly would cause great distress...also the eye is EXTREMELY sensitive to sensation. Meaning anything near or in it is super painful.

@@Aceofwolves Don't forget the beautiful aspect, in anime they put a lot of effort on the eyes nowadays 😂 And the fact that it is such a sensitive organ accessible from the outside. The symbolic meaning as well - window to the soul, the light in your mind. The eyes are one of the most complex organs that we have and they perform a very specific function on the level of laws of physics.

Can we just acknowledge this is one of the first times kirari praised someone. (Calling midari a great gambler and smiling) Because this flashback takes place before the main series its one of the earliest/only times kirari gives praise to someone other than ririka. That says alot about kirari as a person (her standards) and how great a gambler midari actually was before this. Midari is still a great gambler with a life savings of over 1 billion yen (which she acquired AFTER this gamble- so within six months before the main series) After this however Midari cares even less about money and her gambles become more and more violent. In fact she only used money in 2 more gambles after this. After these 2 gambles kirari gave midari her trademark.gun as a gift and midari has never gambled with money since instead betting her life. Its beautifully ironic and tragic.

Midari only bets them willingly. (Someone has to agree to bet their life to play with her) She actually HATES people who are willing to hurt others but not risk their own life. She thinks of them as trash and cowardly. She even will accept other payments such as Yuriko betting her hair in place of her life. Midari will even bet her own life to protect the lives of her beautification council members. She did this in the manga during a game of Russian roulette placing a revolver against her own head after seeing how scared a beautification member was to shoot themself. She told the member "you will shoot at me instead. If I find the bullet [get killed] it wasn't your fault. Now shoot."

@@STRQWBRII well the parts I meantioned are not in the anime. They are in the spin off manga called "Kakegurui: Midari" which takes place about 6 months before Kakegurui. Its good. It shows midari's soft side and her tragic decent into madness.

kirari’s japanese VA is so perfect i really applaud whoever picked miyuki sawashiro bc her voice is so soothing that i keep watching kirari scenes years after i watched this anime just to hear her voice. hard to believe she’s the same VA for ririka. very talented woman right there!

I honestly want Kirari to remain the council president. The show would be boring without her. The system in which she implemented In that school makes it really entertaining and intimidating. She is such a complex, calculating, impressive, sexy, sultry, alluring, hypnotizing, elegant, cruel, ingenious, commanding presence, groundbreaking character.
I don't usually look at foreign dubs but I have to hand it to the Italian voice actors, I think they did a good job in this scene and kept the same energy as the original scene

A smile isn't always an indication of happiness. In twin (which takes place before this gamble) Midari only smiled during her gamble with Sakura (the old beautification leader) She laughed slightly after the former won (midari lost 5 million yen in that gamble) but then returned to a neutral state of mind and a neutral expression of boredom. Midari possibly had some kind of depression as a child but smiled as a way of hiding it.
Its only in her own spin off (which takes place after this gamble but before the main series) that midari truely smiled in happiness for the first time. She even said at the time, "I am enjoying my life...thats what the beautification committee has done." Meaning that she finally found something that made her truely happy. And that was being leader of the beautification committee and bein able to use pain/violence in her gambles.

Yep it resets to your default language (for me that's English) but you can change it. They are all good in their own ways but English is still the best imo.

Because to Kirari she isn't "interesting" she brushes her off. Once she figures you out she won't care. Which is why she is sort of stuck with Sayaka because she can never figure her out while Sayaka can never figure Kirari out.

For anyone wondering :
The smell is similar that of a brain(meaning it smells gross) But way less so unless you are sensitive to smell it won’t make you nauseous at first.
It is like a ball filled with jello. When you hold it it feels like you can pop it with your hands but that isn’t possible. Outer layer can’t be popped with your hand, a knife is required.
The color is like a pale brown. Well it should be after the blood is gone.
After you pop it smell will get 10x worse so having an open window is recommended.
The liquid inside is slime like. It is black and kind of fun to play with.

I mean did kirari really have enough time to stop midari? She did it in like 3 seconds. Also the ONLY reason she jumped after sayaka was because sayaka chose the correct door to survive the fall. Had sayaka chosen any other door (which would have killed the secretary) kirari wouldn't have jumped. She tells sayaka this herself. "Even I would have perfered not to take that dive [jump]" is what's said in the dub.
She is in love with Sayaka, that's why she jumped out the tower for her. Also, even if she tried, she wouldn't have stopped her. The pen was going to fast for her to even put her finger on it.
