Great video! I'm getting ready to do this on my trailer this weekend. Luckily my trailer has a tube-style rails that I think I can put the springs inside of the rail.
What we used is square with a round wait on the inside. Get the weight of the tailgate. Split the weight period on both sides. And a round pulley for the top and a quarter inch cable. They have new Springs.
I used this video to do my 10" trialer. The PVC was 2" dia. and I used 8" 11'" of PVC.. Used a 130# spring on a tailgate that weighted 65# when down on the ground on a bathroom scale. It now goes up or down 2 fingers. Works GREAT !
@@kennethgunderman9086 Thank you very much for posting these details! I’m not clear whether you did this on both sides or only one, since the spring has enough strength to lift the entire gate.
Awesome, I found the video. Thank you. You have dealt with all the stuff I am dealing with before I have. Very cool my friend. Thanks again.
No problem, enjoy the project!

That would be great!
Cheaper and sweeter my way love it
The springs need to be on the outside of the trailer. I mounted them on my trailer . Worked way better!
Good idea, my taillights were in the way.

Now that it has been 4 years since the install on you trailer assist system.... how is it holding up?
I sold this trailer last year, but it was still working good.
Thanks.
I bent my eye bolt too put my spring in it and pulled it back too lock it on
Never saddle a dead horse.....
Not many will catch your comment I'm suspecting. But yes never saddle a dead horse.
How did you get the i bolt in the pvc pipe?
It's close to the end, so I just inserted it at an angle.
Thank you! My cousin is becoming an old man and this is a great video for what he needs on his trailer.
very good , now just tie a orange strip at the tailgate cable end,for a VISUAL spot
Excellent idea 👍

is this better than gorilla lift?
Probably not, but they didn't make one to fit this way for landscaping trailers.
Where did you get the springs man?
Garage door springs from Home Depot
Are you on IG so we could further chat? @masseylandscape is mine...
@@HandyGuy2016 how long of a spring did you use ? All the ones I see at Lowes are 24 inches
I believe these were 24" before they stretched out.

EYE BOLTS ARE IN THE WRONG PLACE ALL 4 EYE BOLTS ?
How long is the trailer?
16 foot
Those D clips are actually ,p t o pins
Good to know 👍
Those springs look like theyre already screwed. Lost their memory! They were clearly working too hard with your previous set up!
Yeah, I ended up replacing them because they were too stretched out.
