Lovely John. Happy Christmas, have a good one👍👍
Thanks, you too!
I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season👍🏻🍻🍺🎉
Just got round to watching this and very much enjoyed the video. Nice touch with the chamfering of the handle and lid corners.
I forgot to say in the intro, I show how I fix a mistake that caused major gaps in some of the dovetails in this video. I need more practice with the dovetail jig!
Great Job ! I like and appreciate your work !
Brilliant. A great idea John.
Cheers Peter
Love de dovetail jig I’ll definitely pick up one of these
Looking good. Very tidy.
Thanks 👍

Superb! Great work!
Lovely John!!!
Beautiful job sir, your work is amazing. Best to you for 2022. I look forward to your channel in the coming year. Excellent idea for gifts. I am a new to the hobby. Your shop is nice too.
Absolutely love it. Perfect timing.
Glad you liked it Zac
Their are nice boxes simple gifts for any time of the year. I would say they are a great way to get rid of offcuts you could have a mix of woods.
Yes this blind man can’t see the mistakes. But a great idea. Maybe it be quite good to use for spaghetti after. Oh and the bonus the sawdust will go all over someone’s carpet to so that be a bit of a laugh. They’re definitely love you for that. Hope you and your family have a very very Merry Christmas and thank you for all the lovely videos you’ve done. You kept me sane listening to you and actually the spice of learnt loads as well so thanks Merry Christmas
Thanks for all your comments throughout the year Paul, Happy Christmas to you and yours.
Good timing, I was making one yesterday. Great project for scrap/off cuts.
Looks good, a nice starting point for your new dovetail jig . Have a great Christmas.
Happy Christmas
Class job John. 🍻. Might have a crack at these myself. Just need to dovetail jig. 🤣👍
Simple mitre corners will work just as good
Cheers John. But do fancy that dovetail jig 👍👍🤞
Really nice project John. The boxes came out splendid. They make a wonderful Xmas present.
Look up cabinet makers triangle, you take say the two long sides put them face to face draw a triangle on the edge you end up with two half triangles on both pieces and same on short bits once you get used of using it it make life a lot easier. At a glance you can see straight away which way your boards should be. Number/letters are ok but you spend more time looking for the number/letter where with the triangle you see straight away which way the pieces should be. Oh by the way great channel
Will do Peter thanks
Cheers to a beautiful simple design. Listening to your design process I find particularly rewarding. Merry Christmas John.
Glad you enjoyed it Kevin
Beautiful, thoughtful gift John! Nice job as always.
Cheers Chris
Happy Christmas John. Great video, well done on showing the error and the repair.
Very good work John, have you heard of a panto router?? I think it would be an interesting project building one from Matthias Wandel's plans.
Simple and beautiful. Merry Xmas 🙂
Happy Christmas and a Great New Year to you.

Hi John
Nice boxes your next job should be a little whiskey cask to hold the bottles, better still to hold the actual whiskey no pun intended!
Can you tell me the name of the chopsaw shroud and where you got it also the dovetail jig, keep up the good work
Regards Liam
great project John............not a whiskey drinker, will it work for a Bacardi bottle? lol
As someone who loves both wine and whiskey, these boxes are awesome. Maybe I'll even build one for my other wine review channel? 🤔
Lovely job John,, maybe you need to secure the lid in case all falls out when your friends are admiring their boxes,, Happy Christmas to all,, Stay Safe..
Lovely work MACCA!! I wish you and yours a wonderful Christmas. Cheers mate! 👍🇦🇺
Thanks, Happy Christmas to you and yours
Happy Christmas John. Hope it’s a good one for you. Great video and lovely Christmas gift idea. Thanks for all the videos this year and looking forward to more great content next year. You have a brilliant mix of hand tool and power tool woodworking. Very enjoyable and informative. Keep it up👍
Thanks Sean Happy Christmas and a Great New Year to you
Great vid. I feared for your other thumb when your paring towards it with your chisel whilst you’re doing the sawdust and glue clean up. My Dad always said both hands behind the blade.
This would make a great hand plane box. Going to have a go as I’ve been meaning to make a few plane boxes. Not got a table saw or router jig so it’ll not be as fancy but good inspiration 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Best part of your video was the fix u did.
Sehr schön gemacht! Sieht klasse aus 👏👌
You didn't mess it up, you put extra care into it.
Absolutely brilliant - great skill, excellent presentation and a wonderful gift. Two question where do you source your wood - cherry and walnut and secondly how do you keep your hand tools from rusting during damp winter months. many thanks for your great videos. Denis
Hi Denis I get my hard woods from McMahons and its an on going battle to keep my hand tools rust free, one product I really like is protec tool wax, works great.
Well done! Happy Christmas!
Happy Christmas and a Great New Year
Class !
Cheers Shorty!
Great work! Well eon31 The box is the main part of the gift? (Big bottle of Jameson's looking straight at me...)
Great job on the repair John!
Curious why you planed down the thickness instead of resawing them.
I was only taking about 8mm of the boards and by the time you flatten out rough sawn boards you lose about that anyway
John 2 questions: How long did this take to do these 4 boxes and what would you sell them for if sold retail price online compared to your final workbench cost? What is a rule of thumb for wholesale cost to retailer of a whisky business and an experienced woodworker like yourself doing this exact same product? Currently got asked to do such a project for the same design and hardwood material versions and need some guidance after showing the client a mock 3/8” plywood version with buttjoints, pins and glue joinery that I did and quoted but they wanted the other side of this spectrum too? Any info would be helpful.
No. 1 xx
I have a felder surface planer and it will still not come near the quality of a simple hand plane.
Great job! I've made a dovetail box recently out of pine, would it be okay to finish with Danish oil and is there an equivalent of that polish available in woodies?
Yeah Danish oil is perfect, you can get some bees wax in Woodies but its not nearly as nice
I really rate liberon finishing oil. I did an electric guitar body with it and if you make a French polish style rubber and apply like that and build up the layers you get a great finish
When your shooting a chamfer on by hand , chamfer the end grain first and angle the plane away from the piece instead of going straight across , that way you won't get tear out, if you do that will be cleaned up when you shoot the chamfer with the grain.
Your planer is not set up right that is why you are getting tear out, you can hear it it sounds really bad
Something is off with it.
Fine woodworking dovetails, you need a "Woodrat" Big learning curve and deep pockets needed but worth it.
Brilliant John - a great idea.
