However, the instance with the vintage Scream mask is a super low down example. With that being said, why not impose a restocking fee (significant percentage based) that would act as a major deterrent for items of such a high ticket value? 40% restocking on $550=$220…make that a VERY EXPENSIVE rental and you’re much less likely to receive such a return. I’m not even suggesting that you apply that to all your inventory, but for these rare, obscure, and valuable listings. It’s just a thought.

If you try and send it through you’ll get a pop-up informing you that says “offer not sent!”
The call with the question about free shipping and the buyer requesting priority mail… Just another reason why I don’t do free shipping! I don’t do returns for seasonal or high ticket collectible items. I sold a $1,000 and 2 $500 t-shirts this summer with no returns. I make sure there are plenty of photos and defects indicated and answer all questions. 99.9% of my items have returns. These items are the exception.
I just had a buyer automatically open a return 30 seconds after I got the notification that it was delivered. I looked at the buyer’s account, and I have a feeling they are going to send me a different item back because they have done it multiple times before according to their feedback.
You've done it again Justin. I was thinking about hats TODAY(I've never sold one) but in all my yt reselling video viewing career, I've never heard anyone mention how they ship hats. I wanted to know...bag or box. You read my mind again 😊 Thank you much!!
The seller hub clearly shows a no scan defect with a percentage you must maintain. My USPS blue drop box scans have always worked for acceptance if I run too late.
Regarding international sales that are shipped direct, many countries have pretty good websites for their national post on which you can find your tracked package destined there even after it may have dropped off USPS tracking. I have been able to salvage a number of international sales over the years by doing that and handholding the buyer through whatever might be necessary to get the package to them. You can also find out if the buyer has refused to pick up the package and pay the duty.
You can change priority to ground advantage. eBay said it was okay. I talked to them twice about it. It’s only projected to be about 1 days difference, and usually it’s just as good as priority time. Make sure when you’re listening your item you are using ground advantage as the shipping option also. Many times when listing it shows the priority option. But you can just change it. Especially if you have free shipping obviously. Since you are paying for it.
Yeah I would tend to disagree with eating it just to make the customer happy. You’re not Walmart or Best Buy, you’re going to notice a hit on the sale from just trying to go priority which I have found doesn’t necessarily at times get it there any faster than ground advantage. I also personally wouldn’t offer free shipping, it doesn’t give an accurate price of the item and since the shipping charge is fluctuated it again changes the amount of profit you might receive if at all. I think it’s ridiculous for people to have to result to free shipping just because resellers are telling you to do it that way. The person buying your item can change the ground to priority if they want to and pay the difference when you’ve selected calculated.
@ I only do free shipping if the majority of others do it. Just to be competitive. It’s rare though. I wouldn’t mind calculated. However, I’ve heard it’s unreliable. I don’t know. To anyone else reading this: it’s okay to change from priority to ground advantage. eBay has told me this a couple of times.
Returns are more of a problem if your profit margin is low. Then returns really hurt, especially if the return cost is high (big item/long distance). So with some types of product niches etc, you need to take extra care to describe accurately, & if you accept offers, try screening out awkward buyers by looking at their feedback left for others etc before you accept an offer
There seems to be a lot of confusion about what eBay gives a late strike for, and so many people say they can't be TRS because of it. As said in the video, if you get a carrier scan next day, regardless if it arrives on time or not, you are good. If you ship a day or two late and get a scan a day or two late BUT it still arrives on time, you are good. It only counts against you if you get a late scan AND a late delivery. TRS is not hard to get and maintain, even if an occasional package goes out a day late.
Yeah, it doesn't help that you can get dinged for things that are out of your control like delays in delivery past estimated dates. I currently have 4 defects and am only actually responsible for one of them. I won't bother to grouse about them unless my rating is jeopardized. 😏
I often sell my items for full price a day or two after sending out offers on my items. When I see the initial sale notification I assume it has been sold for the lower offer price....but regularly they actually are sold for full price. Is it just me this happens to or is it just coincidence.....or....is it some weird eBay algorithm at work?? Thanks for your really helpful video content.
Great content. You always cover at least a couple of topics that I've either just dealt with, am currently dealing with or am about to. I've made a couple of silly mistakes in the last week and sales have pretty much stopped, which I suppose is fair enough.
Thank you so much for your channel. Thank you for that first explanation. I try to tell people about the shipping time. If you are a day late after printing the label it's fine, but you are gambling with the delivery date
When you end a listing on your phone it asks you why you want to end the item. I normally say it’s no longer for sale. I use my phone when I’ve sold something on another platform. I typically just use my laptop to end when I want to delist and relist. No questions asked.
yea I recently had the same issue as the lady with the refunded lost package. I put in 10 packages to my post office, the new guy their accidently put my packages in the mail bag of empty mail bags and they got buried. the delivery guy picked it up along with the other mail brought it to the main hub in our county threw it with the rest of the empty mail bags, then it was shipped to the main hub for my state after that we could not locate it. 2 months of nothing. a few people wanted a refund, others were thankfully very patient, after those two months one of the refunders messaged me saying his package finally showed up and he wanted to pay for it again(yay!) after that i checked the others and found them all scanned in atlanta, georgia. all is good now, had to eat the cost of 2 items but thankfully the most expensive item was repurchased. all in all it is what it is. nothing I could do about it besides relay info to the buyers and refund them when requested.
I can't believe that just a couple of hours ago I saw the item that was your #2 of the week - the SNES Super Scope - at a thrift store I had never been to before. I ended up buying a lot there, but had no cell service [very common out here] or wifi to look up comps; I passed on the game gun, but I may go back tomorrow now that I did some research; hopefully it has the receiver and game, as I can test it here; and hopefully the store isn't charging a ton if they've not tested it since "for parts only" sells at a much lower cost. I had a Halloween-related return too - a new/sealed Lego set. It was an 18+ set that the buyer didn't realize even though it was in the listing/photos/etc, and bought for their 6 year old granddaughter. It was over $200 new, but much less if opened. So I did worry a bit while waiting for the return to arrive, but I was thankful - it came int he same heavy duty shipping box I used, and was still sealed; re-listed it and it has watchers and I am sure it will sell by Black Friday. I think the anxiety of wondering if a return will arrive in the condition sold is what gets me - being used to "rent" an item is eye roll worthy for me, but mostly it's the wait for the return and wondering what will happen if the item comes back in a condition that means I can't resell it or can resell it at a lot less of a price. So far I've not had that happen, but I am sure that day will come.
As a seller in the Chicago area I can testify that USPS can be weird around here. I shipped 2 boxed packages and 3 padded envelopes and the boxes were scanned but the envelopes were not and so there was no tracking info until they were delivered which took longer than usual and the buyer had asked what was up. I got them to wait a few days since I had a record of the boxes being scanned and it all worked out but it was super weird.

I was wondering about eBay adding "similar " items within my listing. Sometimes there are A LOT of other people's listings. The eBay community says basically "too bad, so sad". Do you see this also?
Hi Justin....thanks for answering my question about the missing sent item. It was weird from the start. It shipped to Portland, OR which is NOT my local international location so I don't think it actually WAS international. The buyer said he was in Vietnam. ANYWAY, when you clicked on the tracking it just said preshipment USPS awaiting item. But i DID in fact drop it at the PO USPS ground adv. Oh well... just a weird transaction all around. Thanks again ... like you say, you run into these strange buyers crom time to time so don't sweat it 😅
Awaiting item means it never got scanned into the system and unfortunately, there will be no easy method of locating the package. Stories like this are why I always wait in line and have a worker scan everything before leaving. They often encourage people with prelabeled packages to just drop them at a desk or table. Problem is, once you leave, you have no idea what happens to those boxes. It may take an extra minute or two, but once something is scanned, you are covered and can at least file an insurance claim if it later gets lost. Hope you get lucky and it shows up, but worse case, lesson learned.
That sounds like it was going to a freight forwarder who would have then sent it on to your Vietnam buyer. Since EBay does not permit purchases through freight forwarders, if you had gotten a delivery scan at the Portland address, you would have been free and clear and not owed the Vietnam buyer anything as far as EBay is concerned. Justin discusses that in this video.
I had a piece that was likely a Halloween item and I strung a long ziptie through it with tape on the connector and an unusual sticker on top and stated, "must be intact for return." It didn't come back. 🎉
A note on top rated plus.... You don't have to ship Saturdays for Friday sales. So you get the weekend off. But yes it must be scanned by "ship by" date/time.... this is based on what I've seen personally. I know the verbiage seems to suggest otherwise.
Yup, the person DEFINATELY rented your mask for Halloween. You cursed them for 5 minutes, I would have done 6! LOL! Great video as always thank you Sir!
Your store just has to be healthy enough to cover the refund on a return; don’t go spend that money fast! You can say no returns, but ultimately eBay will force you to accept it so you might as well accept returns.
While I understand encouragement of prompt shipping an strive to post as fast as possible. Like the gent who asked the question I cannot always send same or next day. So I have my settings up to three day shipping. Only a year into this but have top rated status. All of that said, it would seem to me for small sellers of vintage/antique items - seller rating should be based upon fulfilling as you promise -. Zillions of us don't have staff. Zillions of us have real life matters from time to time. Even more zillions need a little time off and it's why we do this.
What I’ve struggled most with is wrapping my head around the various aspects of shipping. Although I’m gradually learning, the most frustrating situation is where someone buys more than one item, such as 3 of the same item. EBay multiplies the weight by 3 to adjust shipping cost, but they leave the box size the same - which means the shipping cost isn’t adjusted enough and I end up losing money on shipping. Is there a setting I’m missing where I can force the box size to be adjusted as well? Due to my location, I have to use calculated shipping.
Hi Justin, enjoy your videos very much. my ebay sales where kind of low so I decided to add a new category to my enterouge "clothing" I used to think they a pain to do but if you find the right brand names they do pretty well. Just wanted to add my 2 cents...(maybe i should say 5 cents ya know with inflation ) lol
Why do you use flat rate shipping vs. calculated? I prefer the latter because it prevents issues with over/under paying and dipping into profit. I sell mostly the same/similar product, and I like not having to weigh each item. Good video, thanks.
I contract to use a 48-hour mail service (UK), if I can't hit the despatch deadline I sometimes take the hit & pay £1 extra to upgrade to 24-hour delivery.
Selling high value items on Ebay can attract scammers = worry/hassle/potentially higher risk of loss. If you're new to selling, you will definitely be more likely to be targeted as a potential sucker
Great video as always. I like to see how you title listing to help me. On the Frankoma bowls the title says 4 VTG but said 5X later. Did i miss something?
Love your channel. Question. Someone buys a box of jewelry that has hundreds of pieces. They paid $50.00. They message me after they received it and say 2 of the pieces are damaged. How do I handle this situation? I don't do partial refunds. Do I make them send all of it back?
Depends on the situation, and the item value. IMO they are probably trying to get a partial refund. Yes I would make them send all of them back. The problem is they may cherry pick the best ones and then send it back. Unless you counted all of them there is no way to stop that. In the future count the items and/or make it an "as-is" no returns item and say a few could possibly be damaged, to make an INAD claim easier for you to overturn.
Hey Justin, I wanted to get your thoughts on this recent return I had. So this person bought a typewriter and I had bubbled wrapped it up and I thought it was really good. About two weeks after the customer received it they said it arrived damage showing pictures that the On/Off switch was damaged. I approved the return and then about two weeks later towards the end of the 30 day return window was when they finally shipped it back to me, but they did not wrap up the typewriter at all and put it in a different box then the one I had shipped it with and so it was far too damaged without repair from bouncing all around. I reported it to eBay but there automated system said I needed to do a full refund because that was my return policy
Specify the return package must be in good condition and the item padded to prevent further damages plus a photo of the item going into the box for shipping claims. If they don't follow the rules and more damage is sustained, that will be deducted from any refund for their neglect.
I never let returns bother me because I don't return anything unless I get the item back and the buyer pays to ship the item back to me with a restocking fee! My name is not Bezos!
Hi Justin, The question about customers requesting express shipping has come up a couple of times. I have a shipping business policy set up on mine with the options for the customer including free shipping OR express shipping at the customer's cost OR international shipping. I haven't had the issue since with customers requesting this as they have the option there but it is up to them if they want standard free shipping or pay for express. I'm not sure if this will help the asker of the question but hopefully it will.
I always ship out same day or next business day. Sometimes my post office doesn’t even scan in the item and it doesn’t get scanned or start tracking until it reaches another post office. Annoying, but I’ve never had a late shipment ding from it thankfully
Hi Justin, I just found what Ebay considers vintage...I think. I'm listing a keychain and in the "era" item specific, pre-1970 is considered vintage, 1970-present is considered modern. That surprises me. I follow the 20-year rule myself.
a lot of non ebay sellers (antique mall sellers, auction houses and appraisers etc) consider over 50 years to be vintage. There is no hard and fast rule about vintage. But "antique" is almost universally accepted at 100 years and over. I tend to follow the 20 years or so as well. It's hard for me to think of anything made in the 2000's as vintage.

When I list items I usually list them high, while I am reviewing those from last month and now analyzing views and past selling data and listed, but I also consider that one buyers who is looking for a good deal. A few things have sold right away, but my inventory is high and that is when I analyze what would I pay for that? There is always another listing that might sell right away and a backlog of inventory never reviewed may seem like something goodwill will end up with. But very few can live off reselling things of nostalgia, days of high Quality, and of sentimental and numismatic value. Question? Don't you get recognized now when visiting garage sales or do they help you know that?

Just a heads up. On the seller tools and overview area it won't ask why you're ending it but if running through eBay selling areas in the basic areas like on the app, it'll ask but one option is item is no longer available for sale which seems to be the easiest one to select that generally makes sense for me when I select something that way. I generally end and relist items on the computer the way you did in the video but if I'm let's say at a friends house and they're like hey I want that item in your store I'll buy it and I'm like ok sure, I'll pull out my phone and end it on the app and let them come by to get it. I'm not sure why eBay loves having multiple ways to experience your own store depending on which link you go to in a browser and also if you're on the app, etc but yeah if you're in the listed items areas that looks more basic and old school on the browser or on the app, it'll ask. Hopefully that made sense. lol
I sold something via the eBay International Shipping program. I ended up receiving a negative feedback from the buyer who said he received a different item. If I were to to ask eBay to remove this, do I have any chance as I did indeed send the item in question?
What do you use to weigh your boxes when you print or create a shipping label? Fedex has been killing me with underpayment cost so I'm not using them anymore, but USPS has also done them a couple times.
Justin, you weren't correct regarding not having to refund a gsp sale. I actually stopped shopping GSP from the UK from having to refund people for using UK 220V electronics abroad and them accusing me of selling them a non working item. I swear I've argued with too many Americans over a PAL PS3 they've bought from me. I then have to arrange a return delivery myself at my own cost or refund. It may be different in the states but that's not my experience of GSP in the UK. I steer clear of all but a few non electrical items.

If you are a top rated seller, you should easily charge a rental fee refund only certain percent of the money you can get the rental fee out of that and then they will just go to Ebay for the rest of the money that seems fair to me I just had a return
I have sold quite a few things thru the international shipping service with ebay- they give me a domestic shipping hub address BUT they charge me 15 or 20 or what seems like a crazy high shipping cost- the buyer pays me like 30 for shipping but when I buy my label, it charges me 20 or so. Is this how it is supposed to work? When I initially signed up for the program, I was under the impression ( falsely, I guess... ) that I would only be charged like the 6 or 8 dollars to ship it domestically and Ebay would collect the rest from the buyer... @@jesushernandez-wu3ri Recently saw a video title he made stating he lost Top Rated, I assume it was for that issue
As a hat collector I say BOX! I sell hats too and ALWAYS use a box. Customers really appreciate that.
@
I only do free shipping if the majority of others do it.
Great video as always!! You are an EBay god sent. I’ve been watching you for a while & this is my first time writing in chat. I’m subscribed to Flipwise & loving it so far. Makes everything so easy and broken down the way it should be. I’d like to have the income stated included on my account as well. That looks even more helpful!! Looking forward to watching more and learning more.

@ yes! Learned my lesson to wait and get them scanned. Just weird how this all went down. Good advice thanks!
Regarding charging a buyer for extra shipping, I believe it's okay to invoice them through Paypal if you have them approve it through ebay messaging.
tbh, this first question makes me feel better, because USPS completely ignored my pickup request today
The income statement is huge, can't wait to have that available to me.
When the person asked about choosing a reason to end an item- the app asks you to give a reason why whereas the desktop version doesnt.
Income statement enabled, yes, please!

Would love the income statement feature!

Probably a mistake. Hope the buyer doesn't complain!
Hi justin, i hear you talking about your bulk buys alot recently, where do you get these? Thank you!
Mostly personal connections I've met through reselling over the years.

If I were to to ask eBay to remove this, do I have any chance as I did indeed send the item in question?
definitely! they'll remove that for sure.
When ending a listing they only seem to ask for a reason on the app not on the desktop.

Am I getting Final Value Fees charged for the High! shipping rate? I really am confused by the whole thing - thoughts?
You are only supposed to have to pay to send it to eBay's domestic hub. The buyer pays the rest to eBay directly to ship from the domestic hub.
@@johnathin0061892 that's what I thought when I signed up but -as an example;
I just sold a t shirt to a person in Ireland for 13.45 with 6.10 shipping. the subtotal was 13.45. Shipping charged to buyer was 20.00 and VAT was 6.69 for an order total of 40.14. The fees charged to me say they are based on 20.14 FVF of 2.67 + .40 , International fee of .33. total fees charged to me was 3.40. Shipping label charged to me to ship it to the hub in Chicago= 16.00!! is that right? Buyer paid 26.69 for shipping including VAT
Are you using the Ebay standard international shipping instead of the Ebay international shipping?
