I moved to the Mediterranean island of Corsica almost 2 years ago from the US. I'd lived in Germany in the military many years and became accustomed at least on the calendar to the traditions attached to and surrounding the church's year of grace as Pius Parsch referred to it. I'd longed to live in a rural, traditional setting where the liturgical calendar was still followed for the most part. My village parish is ordinary form staffed by priests of the Communauté de st Martin a French community founded under the auspices & paternal guidance of Cardinal Siri of Genoa who although are no traditionalists perse but who have great love for the church's traditions, Gregorian chant etc and above all the sung divine office vespers & Lauds in the parish church. Here processions are the norm for feast days, Rogations etc. Also, Corsica has a great love and devotional life for Our lady hailed as queen of Corsica. The Corsican national anthem is Dio vi salve Regina ... The history of the church here reaches back to local traditions of saints Peter and Paul. I always longed to be in a Catholic environment to live out the year of grace and am grateful for this grace here.
