@@johnsydjimi It wasn't a yes or nee question.
@@johnsydjimi But is it a yes, nee, or misschien question?
@@johnsydjimi lol! I should've guessed, since both of you are "monsters." :) I was in Holland once a long time ago briefly in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, and everyone was so eager to practice their English that there was no need to learn much Dutch at all. And it's funny that the Dutch accent even made the people sound almost more American than Americans! Anyway, it was fun to read your explanation about Dutch dialects to understand a little more about the language and people. :)
Oh nederlanders zijn hier dus ook😁🙃
@@johnsydjimi germs paradajis 🤔
Syd and Hendrix are the only two ppl I would literally listen to every scrap of tape they ever made
And John lennon
And Lee Mavers
Duuuude! I was just thinking. 😂😂😂
I have not 1 tattoo but if I got one it wouldn’t be one. It would be one of Syd…and one of Jimi ❤️ no shit
Vs who Eager Eagle?
Roky Erickson
Syd is my favourite musical artist of all time.
Yes, just listening to some Syd I have not yet heard, cool.
Me too
Same here. Fascinating person. Wish he had a better life.
❤❤❤
He shares that Orpheus aura with Scott Walker - one with the French existentialists, the other with Lewis Carrol and Kenneth Grahame, bringing Psychedelia to the Nursery room. Great creative minds.
Syd was indirectly responsible for the goth era a few years later. The droning guitar and muffled amp. Gloomy vibe. I can hear the Cure and Bauhaus when I hear a lot of Syds music
Not to mention the look, dark eyes, wild frizzy hair,, choice of clothes post Pink Floyd
Indirectly and unintentionally. But i can see the Cure connection. And why not Psychic tv...
You have it backwards. When you hear Cure and Bauhuas you hear Syd.🐙🐘🍎➕🍊
How Syd is so overlooked is beyond me. I'm sure he paved the way for the genre of psychedelic folk
He is rather revered ...David Bowie idolised him...but I agree, not known enough. He's a real musicians musician so when you meet someone who loves him they usually are hardcore music heads
check the incredible string band
Overlooked??? By whom?
Syd was and in many ways still the best.Genius innovator and pioneer. He was Pink Floyd
Absoluteness!!
jim goodnight I call post ‘69 just Floyd they left Pink behind and imo being Syd came up w/ the name(now Waters is tryin to say he did🙄) I don’t think they should’ve kept using it? Just my take but The Pink Floyd sound died when Syd got pissed
@@Oneofthechose i hate that they call themselves pink floyd. Syd barrett was pink and rick wright was floyd. This is on a whole other level
Syd BARRETT is PINK FLOYD MARK 1 , Richard WRIGHT and David GILMOUR are obviously PINK FLOYD MARK 2 and Roger WATERS is the king of anti-Semitism !
@@alainjean-baptiste1337 touché?
If I could just get in a time machine and go back there over and over to the late 50's early sixties as a teenager. I'D DO IT.
In other words ,a...BOOMER.
Theres only 1 Syd Barrett and unusually brilliant!
I used to think so....
What d'you think now?
For sure only one. I call his complex of mental health stuff “Barrettism”. Since everybody wants a damn label. He worked his ass off. He tried and he delivered. Ass fucking hole money grubbing fucks.
... all of his so called friends and family were right there the whole time his family who claimed to know him and LOVE him, the buddies who wouldn't even be where they are today without him, all of them were right here the whole time and did absolutely nothing. they all profited from his talents what he spent all his time his love of art music, people, 'His Friends' All took from him. No one ever even tried to help. They all watched him suffer and did nothing. One tiny bit . see that . of true 'LOVE' Friendship would have saved someone, anyone and everyone in the whole world. 'WE' all stood back and watched and after they are gone 'WE' profit and all all talk about how close 'WE' were to him and did 'NOTHING' THANKS Syd for everything you shared with 'ALL' of us
You really are a self indulgent fantasist that chooses to ignore the many testimonies freely given by Syd's mates colleagues and family about how supportive but confused and sad everyone was , how his early music was promoted so he would receive royalties into his account , and even how his family declined offers of visits from his bandmates because Syd would often deteriorate further following such visits ... If you were even moderately observant you should have been able to pick this up !!But of course you know better because you are a superior know it all smugster who loves to feel better by denigrating the very people who really were there suffering and still did their best to forward his legacy at the time . As far as most fans are concerned your opinion is merely the fantasy of a jaded unhappy idiot who spouts poisonous insinuations for personal gratification ... Cogitate on that ...
You find that is commonplace, ergo Mankinds' bad reputation.
That simply isn't true. It's unlikely that any of Barrett's solo work would have been released if David Gilmour hadn't worked on _The Madcap Laughs_ and _Barrett_ . PF made sure that Barrett got royalties. Rosemary Breen had told PF early on to stay away from Barrett, and they did.
Syd had more than enough about him to withdraw... He didn't end up one of the 27 club. Ironically it was probably his pre-existing mental health that saved him .
I think they did try, to the best of the abilities young men in their 20s could, and with what little was known about mental health back then. They dedicated an entire album to him.
Syd Barett was a talented, gifted young man. Unfortunately, he had the wrong friends and hung out with junkies. Nick.M said: We ignored the problem. A sad story for the whole family. When he released his two solo albums, Syd Barett was on the verge of schizophrenia!!! Psychiatry wasn't ready back then... I'm interested in how Syd lived with his illness???? Unfortunately, there are no more books in German...
This box set cost me an arm and a leg considering that it's apparently limited to 400 copies. Anyway nice that it's free for everyone else. lol...
Yeah but at least you have a physical copy man. Congrats. I couldn't score one.
It's not nice to brag, but it IS nice to share. Thank you SO much.
Dyann Jaxon its not a brag i just said its noce that its free for all else
Physical copy all the way, vynil in a decent stereo system is the way to go. Good for you!
I can´t believe people pay a lot of money for that shit. I wouldn't pay a dollar for a worse version of an album that
i like.
I have been a Floydian since I was 4years old listening to my uncle who was 16 Play their records, Syd was such a BEAUTIFUL GENIUS And an amazing innovator, It is so sad that he burnt out like he did, But it is Wonderful that we have these parts of HISTORY to listen to once again and appreciate him and his contribution to MUSIC, Thank You for bringing me a part of my childhood ✌👍🎶🎵🎼🎤🙂💜❣😎
It’s a sad story his life I no he is amazing talent I really like his music mental health is a serious problem today stil the best are creative and in touch
This is seriously one of the best uploads to the internet EVER!!!

whose that other persoon?
ThëPink Floyd 🤪
The octopus ride is an obvious representative t0 life in this world. Poor Syd. He was brilliant.
My favorite song from Syd.
Those "golden hair" takes. My word.
Only one word is enough here: "WOW"!!!!!
Lo sto scoprendo solo ora, assolutamente un grande !
Great British vocalist! Love his voice.
I love Syd Barrett's work from Arnold Layne,See Emily Play,to Piper at the gates of dawn, and his two solo albums The Madcap Laughs and Barrett,he was so unique. I think Syd Barrett and John Lennon kick started the English Psychedelic music scene.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Good bye my friend. Thank you for the memories.
Ima huge Syd fan and am really glad I found this. I have most of this era rare outtakes bit have never heard some of these tracks. So rare and nice thanks
This is gold, my favourite figure in music!

@@JagBetty It's not by accident.
Whooah. Sounds and pics of The Madcap I never heard/saw. My gratitude is 1 mile long, Monstre.
Syd is a fascinating person, trying different art at a time when few things were discovered. He had a vision, obviously his ex band mates profited greatly over it or what would become a constant narrative for their most successful art. Syd to me was raw brilliant talent from birth, not copying anything or one, being what he created, sad he spent most of his life in seclusion. Hope he was at least at peace.
Great music! Improvised, spacy, mysterious, colourful. It usually is the best when it's unplanned, even though you know your stuff, but to play it unhurried, unthreatened, just having your own thing, and having that ingredient to bring people into your own thing. Great photos by the way as well!
Manuel Di I have some friends who- if my dude Jeffery Left had a British accent on he and Helyn’s song “Angels sacred Harp” reminds me of Syd’s solo stuff- a lot of their stuff is Folky/country-ish but @RainandLeft are really good
Btw thank Storm(RIP) for the pics
its have on torrent sites hehe :)
Love these various versions of Octopus. The first version 49:21 has tons of mid-range, sounds like it's coming from a small transistor radio. The second version at 53:25 has superb clarity as his vocals are up front and pure. He performs both of these with patented "Syd precision" and bubbly energy. The 3rd version 57:00 introduces the bass which seems to bring it all together, a fantastic rendition. 4th version 1:00:25 has brilliant moments with some interesting ad-lib but is disjointed with loss of syncopation. 5th version 1:03:40 is by far my favorite one with great pace, beautifully layered vocals, and a strong bass line.
love that syd precision. i was known as simon perscision in my first band in 1992. have one recording somewhere in the attick at my dads place overdubbed on a kid sisters wham tape. operation desert storm freedom fighter idiot shite
Matty Sci-fi Radio shack too
His voice and guitars are so mental & sublime. If i was a cinema director i was the first to create a movie about the Syd 's life named The Most Beautiful Crazy Diamond.
Clowns and Jugglers is so incredibly catchy, that one can’t help but wonder what it could have been if it was produced by Norman Smith and done with the rest of the Floyd...
I'm so happy to learn the songs I loved from Pink Floyd the most was about Syd. They did some great homages to the man that started it all. How sad to be at the helm of a musical revolution only to be struck with mental illness. Bless his soul. But what a legacy.
everything has a reason to be , perhaps
He did nae start it. He joined and became leader
thanks so much , i really love u for posting this... omg so rare...
The endless takes of "Clowns and Jugglers"/ "Octopus" seem to demonstrate that Syd wasn't as all over the place in the studio as those involved make out. This is a hard song to sing, and in a high register. Syd is pretty consistent throughout his performances, though. With more time and better producers his solo albums could have been much, much better. As they stand now the albums are a bit of a mess in places: "But not to worry, Syd was mad or messed up on drugs, wasn't he?" It's a shame.
Dave screwed up or sabotaged madcap Malcolm Jones should have stayed on. I love syd stuff but not a fan of boring Floyd. More of a pink fairies hawkwind man. But I've tripped to syd for 20 sumit years.
@@moonboyd6199 It was more Roger than Dave
Thank you
This is the only music on YT that I have bookmarked. Been enjoying Syd for over 40 years. Love this share-share. Thanks!
Wow, this is amazing. It’s awesome to hear all these tracks slowly come together.
One word, Amazing.
sublime Syd
Totalmente de acuerdo contigo Chuchi. Genial e imprescindible Syd Barrett
Captivating & hypnotic, all of it. Love the photos too. Merci!
thank you!
Totally awesome!!!! Love it!!!!!
Thank you so much for uploading this to RUclips!
Thanks for the gem
Merci beaucoup pour ce tresor David
Proto Punk Rock. Syd Barrett es uno de los mejores músicos de la historia.
wow this is deep good stuff Thanks
Thanks for the music Syd I wish i got to meet you
Weird. I’ve been listening to all kinds of Syd Barrett stuff and I’m a newbie...this stuff is best so far
Cynthia Marston try live butthole surfers 1986 1989 era
Oh...ok...yes I see there was a genre in the time which actually does help to put a different perspective on this Syd thing...a little reality...what’s unique?....who is genius....there are many songs his guitar rhythms strumming stuff is pretty sweet ...a little subtle..not in octopus so much...but several other songs. Syds better ha ha!
J H Anyway....Syd liked jazz. Me myself I never did so I took a class in college called Jazz. And still didn’t like it. Now I can see a better picture due to Syd. I don’t think any person should underestimate this young man with a lot of child and reactions like a child really too.
Grooving in the Nostalgic Storm Wave. I listened to several...what I could find on RUclips. I went thru a brief jazz phase when 18 and found it depressing after all, especially Mose Allison but I tried. Later there was a course called Jazz I took as an elective towards a BA in Linguistics and thought I could learn enough to like it. Well I do like the experimental stuff surprisingly....why I said weird I guess. Syd was a Jazz man. Some trance stuff too. What needs to be mentioned is the huge contribution from joining musicians. Something like 13 on the witches Brew....and the cooperation on Syds stuff here. Thanks for suggestion. Sheds light on what Syd was no doubt exposed to and influenced by. He listened mostly to jazz in retirement.
james clem I just got a guitar and it came yesterday...haven’t touched one I. Decades! The Syd thing which, like I said is new to me, inspired me. It will not be any formal undertaking but for ....f u n...like you mentioned. Golden Hair was first song to come to mind to get started. I’m sounding it out. I won’t be using music sheets. I’m pretending I just can’t get them! Again....for fun and creative outlet.
SYD´S THE SOUL OF THE PINK FLOYD!!!!!!
Such a masterpiece...
Beautifully psychedelic :)
I found this on January 6th (Syd’s birthday)

THANKYOU,,,Syd!!!!!!!!!!!!
Etan Kohcz we really don’t know if Syd was just being Syd after his lost weekend or if he was burnt for a year or so? Never will, but this shows imo he never lost it Floyd just couldn’t deal w/ “Have ya got it yet” egos kill and can kill someone’s spirit, which is what they did to Syd.
The harmonies on Golden Hair are beautiful
THANKS so much for posting this. NOT that I downloaded and burned to CD and am listening to it now. This is great, or I mean, this could be great had a downloaded and burned to CD and were listening to it.

Syd barret rocks!
These are. some very trippy tracks.
have you got it yet?
Syd changes the rift every other time.
Close your eyes and syd is playing just for you proper improvisation and some more-
It's obvious Sid Barret is Pink Floyd and Pink Floyd is Sid Barret with some creative and good musicians.
Some times I think about of the music evolution actually if Sid Barret has been going the shine diamond yet.
Roger went by the name SYD during those years...not the femora vercion “Sid” as you reference
Te amo Syd
Imagine if Tool recorded a cover of Syd's song Ramadan, that would be beautiful. Spread the word maybe they will consider! I love both bands immensely.

Imagine listening to the Beatles or Jimi Hendrix and you can make out the background, but every time you listen to final take of clowns and jugglers and you’re floored other than being able to identify instruments as if it’s the perfect line between busy and atmospheric
There is just so much Sonic Youth in this...!!
