When will we accept that we are in charge of our own environment? Residents need to get together with the guidance of their local chiefs, to have a regular clean up programme of the area they live in. Ruwanda has managed this. If we, as the people of Kenya discipline ourselves with regards to litter disposal and, point out those individuals who fail to do so, we then have a sound argument and can dictate what our leaders must do. Crying out to the government to help is only futile, they never will and we know, that we know they will not. We must all be held responsible and learn to dispose of litter properly and ensure that drainage is free of litter. We raise our standards and only then can we force the government to maintain what we have started and, do the work we elected them to do.

This is my job to solve drainage for the entire Mombasa County. I have been thinking about it for over 20 years now. I had the opportunity to work in Mombasa around Nyali, Shanzu, Mtopanga, all that area in North Coast bounded by the Ocean, Nguu tatu area up to Makupa causeway. For the last two years I have been there, no rainfall incident heavy enough to stop us doing construction work. I travelled upcountry on Thursday evening and now this. I am willing and ready to carry out drainage solution for Mombasa county for the following fees:-
1) Site visit - KShs 3,000,000 - This will involve visiting all wards and listening to flood stories-one Month.
2) Preliminary investigations - KShs 1.0 billion - This will involve walking all natural drainage routes and rough mapping - 3 months
3) Preliminary/Draft design - KShs 1.5 billion - This will involve surveying and designing intake and drains - Tunnels shall be included
4) Final Design Drawings and TD - KShs 2.5 billion - The preferred option(s) shall be designed and costed.
5) Supervision of Construction - KShs 3.0 billion - Contractors, Local, Chinese and HAMAS tunnel builders shall be sourced.
Any takers in Mombasa County or the Government? I however estimate that the whole undertaking will be about 50% of SGR from Mombasa to Nairobi and Mombasa people will not hear of floods again. Any takers?
