I agree man, anything over 15-20 it's just madness not to. Even if you're confident in yourself it only takes one idiot to clip you. I know Andy's "responsible" (lol) but he needs to educate his friends 😂
Agreed. I do a lot of MTBing but my worst fall was when the throttle got stuck on and I pulled a wheelie on the ride home. It all happened in a fraction of a second and I landed directly on my back and head. I would have been in serious trouble without the helmet. Plus kids watch these vids and it would be good to set a proper example.
Phaserunners are good for certain uses. I personally REMOVED my phaserunner from my upgraded BBSHD and switched to a Ludicrous controller. Both were outputting aprox 3k watt on the same motor. The phaserunner did give a little more top speed, but I LOVE the torque the Ludi gives. Plus it integrates into the motor itself for a clean/ no wires look. I plan to keep the Ludicrous on my BBSHD, and maybe build a different bike and use the phaserunner on it. For ease of use, clean looks, and pure reliability, I recommend the Ludicrous controller first. Not to mention it allows me to dial the power down and get away with the legal laws for street use, as the motor is still factory stamped as 750w, yet I can dial that up to as high as 3000w.
The Grin Tech Phaserunner is amazing, any chance you could review the Baserunner by Grin Tech also? I'm yet to see much info from builders out there for that bit of kit.

Yes it’s a voltage regulator issue, the first generation could fail if you had a regen voltage spike over 84V, you won’t have a problem if you disable regen below about 80V.
Top notch video, I didn't have a clue about Phaserunners for e bikes. Can you tell us the difference in range between a phase runner and a normal controller? Thanks Andy.
You can easily field fix those fuses ! Just take some fuse wire or ordinary wire for that matter and wind it around the pins and plug it back in ! I used to do it on my 14s using a micro blade fuse ... 30A-50A in the blink of an eye ! ;)
I love the ebike videos, very informative. I built a ebike in 1992. I now have a full suspension Hibike ebike which I purchased when they first came out. You have inspired me to build my own again. I am desperate for more power and a throttle. This is probably because I am also a keen off road motorcyclist. I was thinking about buying the frame that you sell. I have also found some useful information on the Internet about the Bafang Motor. There is a company in Germany making a new controller and supplying the motor with this already installed. Bafang BBS02B, 48V, 17.5Ah battery. Will do 25 miles at full tilt, 40 miles of hilly terrain averaging 24 mph with ~150-200 watt leg power assist. 60 miles at 20 mph hilly terrain with pedal assist. You could roll along over 100 miles at 15 mph on bike paths. With pedal assist you will get bored and saddle sore before the bike runs out of battery. Do make sure you choose the appropriate gear with this kit. At full power with the throttle you want to be pedaling at least 100 rpm (or selecting a gear that allows the crankset to rotate at least this speed if you aren't pedaling). At lower power levels, lower cadences are fine. Making use of the "speed limit" section on the controller will conserve battery life by unpowering the bike at higher speeds as a regular e-bike does at 15.5 mph (the motor will still follow the pedals for smooth engagement but won't add power).
