I am trying to see myself feeling as confident as you are when my horse is worried. I know that the more nervous I get the more scared my horse reacts. Thank you for showing us that it can be done!
Just like human kids. Some are book smart (arena) some are street smart (outside arena). Great to expose them to both things. Makes a better safer, smarter more confident horse.
Excellent job, excellent trainer! You didn't use a strong bit on the horse to control him, you didn't use a bit a all! You understood the horse, his fear, instead of forcing him, telling him that you are the boss! Instead you helped the horse through his fear, rewarded him many times! I loved watching this! Best regards from Norway 🙂PS... If I was a horse I would have been afraid of those cows as well. Those horns! 😅 Svar
Thanks for the video! "Arena" horses need a lot more exposure to the real world. I hope you bring us back to see him actually working a cow. Is he to be cross-trained in cutting?
for a horse that doesnt get ridden outside much this is incredible to me. I know it was a lot of pressure on him and you really helped him through it. I'm working on this everyday.
My mustang mare is confident to ride through a herd of black brangus momma cows and calves and bulls and push them around but riding her past a herd of fenced in longhorns is a whole different story. The longhorns have it figured out that the fence protects them from the intruders (passing) and will charge the fence.
So my main question is why not use calves instead of full grown big hugely horned cows? I have a show horse that is only 14.2 and he’s terrified of cattle. So I take him out with a friend who rides who’s horse is great with cattle and we approach steers together and he has done pretty well. Eventually we will be alone and he won’t be so scared of them. And yes mine is really pushy too. I’ve had to get him to listen too. So this really helped thank you. It was funny when he saw the corgi wasn’t concerned about the steer, he watched the dog.
You definitely could, I felt that he was ready for the challenge, and he did well, this particular horse was afraid of cattle but not terrified which would be a different situation, It’s more about him working through situations he’s uncomfortable, hope that makes sense
Enjoyed this one. What are your thoughts about settling him at a spot. Then, when relaxed for 10-15 seconds, doing a large circle away to totally release the pressure. Then come back and get closer, and rinse and repeat? His bizzy body mind didn't get a big release after he settled. You did a great job. Just wanted to see your thoughts.

Absolutely, knowing your horse well enough and not putting him in a situation he’s not ready for helps with the confidence,

Thanks! He’s doing well with it!
Thank you for showing that there are horses that are afraid of cattle. And it sometimes not very easy to get them to settle down.
Quite a few horses are at first anyways!

You’re welcome!

That’s tough when they want to charge!
