The wrong rear tire selection catches up with me on very steep rocky section of the TET. The Heidenau K60 Scout, that is the one with the middle strip and not the one I thought I was getting, has reached its limit. No traction and only predictable swerving when needed the most. I'll have to turn back on the motorbike and find a way around this off-road section. Riding central Portugal on a Honda motorcycle.

Sharing when all goes well is never an issue. Sharing when things go this bad tells me your a true adventurer! I'd ride with you anywhere! Good luck bro!
these clips are the reason i subscribed to Pedro initially. I love this stuff, man is going out there alone and doing stuff way beyond what I do only a couple hours from home...
It's not a problem if you have to turn back, it's only a problem if you give up on getting to the destination. Thanks for the awesome videos!
its not about the destination... its about the journey... enjoy each moment, thats living... so they say
Hi Pedro, the KTM side panel that you find is mine :))))) it's been there for 6 months. I made the tet with my son in June 2020. Have a nice ride !!!!
No way, pics/video or it didn't happen! So what happened there, did come down or up that slope? Are there many more like those, or even harder ones?
@@iPedroMota ruclips.net/video/UtVbnOsqvgM/видео.html
Damn I can what happened to the fairings ruclips.net/video/UtVbnOsqvgM/видео.html. Btw well ridden, what a smooth climb.
@@iPedroMota when the bike is light everything becomes easier.
my ktm 690 was standing by the stone wall before the stream. she fell to the side, crumpled the fairing and broke the gps support. It seems that the side panel also fell and I didn’t see it, but it was no longer good
Oh shit, they sometimes do that. You walk away all is fine, turn around and they on the ground. Now you know where it is now if you ever want to go and retrieve som father/son memorabilia to hang up on the wall.
I have a dr 650(very light compared to the honda ) and one time I drop it and a bush and my leg was stuck under it,took me a good 10 minutes to get out and pick it up.You talking about those videos on how to pick the bike up had me laughing with tears! respect to you.
This is REAL Pedro! Great stuff.
I just love your stuff Pedro. I was thinking you are Pedro the fearless, but I think you are more like Pedro the peerless. There is no one else on YT like you, doing it the way you are doing it. I can’t understand why you don’t have 500,000 subscribers. But then maybe we wouldn’t get the same authentic style and footage, - so keep up the great work. Regarding deciding to turn around, I’ve been stuck in a similar position in NZ ! Honestly brother, it’s always better to turn back and save it for another day. It will always be there. There is no point dropping the bike on your own and breaking ya leg eh ! Then what would I watch laugh along with .cheers brother
Any one else ever had to reluctantly back off from a section of road and turn around? By the way still on one upload per week due to the lockdown in Portugal.
Check out the full Europe/Portugal ride ruclips.net/video/AlxiEamQcjo/видео.html
hooo ia.. lets just say that sometimes, thers a limit ;)
Either the tyres, or for getting tired and exhausted :D
Not backing off is a good way to spend some nights in the bush.
Yup been in a similar situation and I think here even with a dirt bike you might fall also it’s much steeper in real life I know that the camera doesn’t give it justice cause had a similar view on the go pro. But man you’re tough
Alone on those remote tracks....not a good idea...
I sure did, these things happen, I was not prepared, tired, wrong bike, too muddy, too much deep sand, then I got older and I just could not do it! I will never be ashamed to say I could not climb that hill! Cheers
When you return Atlas, don't
forget to have it serviced ! 🤣
Great to see not every attempt is full of glory and success. The reality of off road riding, with a sense of humour and a lot of determination. Great video.
OMG! When i saw the STEEP downhill I didnt believe it! (even on camera) and then that CLIMB! Thats why i usualy say "Mister Mota YOU the EXTREME!!" haha :) Awesome video man, great effort! Take care keep rolling :)
Great video! And thank you for not having background music. I’d much rather hear your narrative and the engine. Very well done.
Hey Pedro, this is called an adventure ride!
I had a lot of fun with this video, I don't know about you :) :)
Great video, ride safe!!!!
Hell yeah buddy..
Great video again, another adventure with ups and downs but always great adventure 🤘
You are indeed an inspiration bro!
Been there, done that but I always had a partner. Over the years we learned to carry no more than the absolute essential. Carry plenty of water and get rid of the rest. I had a DR650 and even that was a pig with my camping gear. Nowadays I enjoy my KTM 300 on single tracks carrying just water. Oh I’m 67 by the way and try not to cause any damage to myself so that I can continue to enjoy riding.
Been to Portugal many times and it’s a beautiful country. You got yourself another subscriber. Muito bom, obrigado.
My 1993 Transalp has the Heidenau with separate blocks. I’ve been quite happy with it and I’ve ONLY ridden in Mongolia with it. Thank god I had my wife and passenger to help me pick it up when I dropped it multiple times in the Gobi sands. Even with her we had to remove the camping luggage to pick it up. My commiserations go to you for having to repeatedly pick up such a top heavy bike.
For those interested, the location of Pedro's trouble is 39 degrees, 35', 25" North and 7 degrees, 36', 07" West on Google Earth.
Thanks
Totally had to turn around on a similar slope in Canada, except I slid backwards and almost endo-ed the bike. The dog, who happily was well protected, was not impressed. Once he was off the bike he picked up on the bear smell (there were bear droppings everywhere), and started barking at something in the bush. Not a good idea in grizzly country when you’re a 20 pound dog, or any size of human either. Adventures!
Hey Pedro, that Song that's stuck in your head is called Greensleeves.
This is for Pedro

Really nice, this upload. This is more how my adventures off-tarmac would end up.
We's were all there with you in our chairs at home helping you lift that bike.... 😎👍
I’m older...getting a motowinch...I can’t lift like Pedro.

Waiting for the video, "Bob's moto restoration... " :D abraços
lol :D
Each scar will be a memory . Better than tattoos . No restoration planned ;-)
Bob can I steal these words and put them in a song when I get stuck with lyrics?
Be my guest. But to be honest, I read them on a T-shirt a long time ago: "Scars are like tattoos, but with better stories. " Love it !
Well done Mr Mota :D And a great vid, loving this :D Stay well.
Straight up honest & adventurous, you have my respect
I love this video and thank you Pedro for sharing it. It goes to show that even experienced riders hit a wall every now and again and we all make mistakes. I often beat myself up when things go wrong when I shouldn't and this video just reminded myself of keeping in mind we humans and not perfect all the time. thanks again
Your never give up attitude is great for us voyeurs. There are so many instructions on how to pick up a down bike. You seem to have the main one remembered. Don't be in a hurry. I suppose it's good to have a relatively lighter bike because those of us with street, sports and touring bikes wouldn't be able to lift ours grabbing looking at our bike. If I had to lift up my bike as many times as you do though I wouldn't be facing my bike. I suppose it't an old man thing, that we tend to protect our backs a little bit more.
Not defeated! Intelligent and humble enough not to stubborn to the point you ruin the bike, your back, a leg or a foot and go home on a helicopter. No shame on being smart Pedro. Boa escolha!
Now that was a tough track , i'm glad you turned around . You may have got injured or even worse damaged Atlas more :-)
So fucking informative to show what does it look like when you ride the tire to the limit. Thank you, man! Amazing stuff.
I wrote my comment about the swearing before watching this video and I really understand why. I am sorry you had a rough day. Much respect.
Beste aflevering so far man! mooi om te zien hoe zwaar het soms kan zijn,
yep, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, that's how it goes, great video Pedro.
Hey bro. You need to come to the Arizona desert and do some trails here. You certainly got the balls for it. Here we don't baby our off road vehicles; we make them take the pain! Stay safe...
Some fun stuff down in Sedona and the Verde Valley, I ride down from flagstaff whenever I can!
Man... Those are amazing trails over there... Never went there on motorcycle. Only on a bike (the one you pedal to go forward lol), and by 4wd vehicles, as i used to work around. And yes, some of those tracks may be defying. Stay humble, keep cool, and everything will be okay, so you can take frustration out of the equation. Great ride man
Shit Pedro wish i could give a hundred likes
You earned them.
Though the journey may be rough sometimes, the pain is a good reminder of being alive! MOMENTUM is your friend always, and in all ways. I never motocross myself, but I’ve watched hill climb competitions and learned that those who reach the zenith of the mountain, pin the throttle and hang tight till you can safely dismount on your terms. Keep on rippen and make great videos!
You’re a beast. Mucho respect to be doing that solo bro!
Mannn what a awesome video. I really appreciate the effort you put into making this happen man, I really do. I cant wait for the next episode man. Your awesome.
Essa subida não estava fácil! Você foi corajoso, tentou subir bravamente! Bons ventos Pedro!
Mucho respect for you, Pedro. Your grit and determination are inspiring. My numero uno concern for riding on remote, gnarly tracks like that one is, what if I got injured and needed medical assistance? Great to be young and feeling impervious to injury.
Ride it out or prepare to meet your maker.
Ive done 78km of hard enduro with 4 broken ribs
38kms with a broken knee
60+km with another broken knee
Plus countless trips with stabs in my body and face from bamboo.
Worst one was a 12km hike off a mountain in the dark, that nearly killed me from dehydration and exhaustion.
I suppose @ 60 i should just sit in a chair and wait to die.
@@theravedaddy Every man's context is different. Pedro does not have a wife and little Pedrinos who are depending on him. If he did, I suspect that he would be approaching risks differently. Context plays a big part in our calculation of the risks we take.
@@mr.solitude3352 who said i have anyone who gives a stuff about me? Im 60, life doesnt get explored by sitting on a sofa.
After 36 years of working nights outside on the uk railway theirs one thing I hate more than anything. Wet clothes, I feel your pain.
I'd just like to thank Bob for firstly donating Atlas for Pedro to use. Then, watching his pride and joy go through all that, and commenting throughout the thread like a true gentleman. Hats off to you Sir. Pedro, I find if you are going to lay the bike down it's best not to do it on a 20% hill offroad or in a 'Lake'....it's much easier if it's on a showroom floor with a nice non slip mat, with some nice panniers so the bikes not lying so low on the ground. (Don't ask how I know) Hats off to you for being able to get that bike upright from those positions on your own, maybe full of fuel it would be a different story. I think you should forget the name 'Atlas' now....today Atlas became 'Alp 2.0' Alp will do...
Terrific, and worth every grimace! Takes me there, back on one of my '87 Transalps, Eastern Canada mainly. I do recall pushing my limits through an ice storm, very different scenario, but with the same goal of getting to my Christmas day destination, packed up to the nines! : )
... Excelente vídeo parabéns
Im late to this party, just subbed - great stuff fella. Love it👌👍❤
You are a man of endless patience, either that or you stop filming, scream abuse at a passing goat and then kick a defenceless rock 😂😂. Loving your adventures, when will you see Alp again ?
Hey man, wat een prachtige reis! Heb grotendeels alles bekeken, maar erg tof dat je dit doet, zeker met het hele Corona-gebeuren. Keep up the good work en een veilig reis gewenst! Groeten uit Rotterdam
Pedro, thanks for sharing the reality of it.
At minute 24:30 you impart the one lesson I wish I had known earlier: don't try to lift the bike immediately. Stop. If you have a carbureted bike, switch the gas off to avoid it leaking through the carburetor. Relax. Let the adrenaline rush through, it might mask pain in your ankle or elbow. Think.
Then take the luggage off, pull the front wheel to turn the motorcycle to a workable position, put it in gear if needed, use your front brake blocker if you have one, extend the side stand if the bike fell on the right and lift your bike.
Recon forward. Assess gas, remaining distance, time of day, weather. Hydration, food, potential injuries. If there is the option, consider going back. If going forward, consider several lines. Take the time to move loose rock from the main line _and_ the alternatives if needed...
Recon again.
Then put your helmet and your gloves on and do it.
I would sometimes spend 30 minutes before I even just start the engine, it will have had time to drain of the fuel that might have flooded it when it was on the ground.
If the air intake was flooded, think of taking the spark plug out before you crank the engine at least a few cycles.
As for having to turn around, yes. More than once.
And sometimes after going down slopes where I thought "I sure hope I don't have to turn around".
And BTW the bike I had was perfectly capable - I was the, er, limiting factor.
One last word: when reconning forward, always take the key from the ignition. I once met cyclists coming from where I had left my motorcycle. One had just taken the key... Luckily I had the spare with me, or I could have kissed it bye bye.
Don t feel defeated Pedro. You do great. Cheers and enjoy
Pedro I LOVED this man, some fucking WICKED footage. Love seeing the raw difficult stuff you encounter. Mad respect.
Wow ! Pedro this is some video. Well done you for filming it and lifting your bike back up. I am exhausted just sitting here watching you. Stay safe. Should also have added that I ride a GS and a gravel car park is my limit 🤣
21:27 hahaha, awesome moment! So relatable man! I swear every time I see those 'how to pick up your bike' in a perfect scenario videos..
Great video. Kudos for being out there doing it. Portuguese TET looks great.
Hands Down the best ADV video yet, thanks
You were smashing it through the mountains in south America and in Mongolia , building roads and riding train tracks high on coca leaves and the love of riding and freedome . you will get it back
so awesome mate and spectacular scenery
Just discovered your channel, lol. I'm subscribing.
I loved this. I felt your pain at every drop. Loved it.
Hey Pedro, Your medival song is called Greensleeves and now it is in my head for the whole night. :D
Singing and riding- I love it; easy to see you really enjoy riding
Memories are made from hardships. Thank you for sharing. these are great hardships and great memories.
2:14 Whenever you encounter the 'head shake, tank slapper, death rattle' , DO NOT try to
smooth it out with strength, any input to try to control it actually makes it shake worse.
The bike will 'fix itself' , and much faster than 'we' can by trying to make it stop.
Steering damper might be in order. What you witnessed was mild compared to the real
slappers at high speeds, where the handle bars try to destroy the tank. Glad it smoothed
out for you..
Pedro: Sometimes in live we have to turn and try an other way - that is not a shame, we just have to recognize and realize it. Love your videos.
Woah mate, one serious effort there!!! Respect!
That looked like a lot of work. Nothing wrong with backtracking. Great video - really enjoyed it.
I have watched a ton of your vlogs, I am up to grab my own Transalp. I hope I will meet you somewhere :D. Have a great adventure!
The tune was familiar, got the name from the comments, and listened to the Celtic Ladies version of it on YT, beautiful...a bit of music education...Again, WELL DONE, I was able to follow you perfectly from the "get go" to the end. (except where you took a left and I took a right coming out of that first village and I lost you till I found MY error). Get yourself a razor and or a disc grinder and notch that center rib a bit, you can do that. You're giving some good tire instruction along the way, Cheers, my friend, I am really enjoying Portugal with you.
Good effort Mark. You know, the suggestion has come up now multiple times and if I can continue my plans of getting back on the TeT I might just do that. Could make for some interesting video footage too.
Hope Bob knew what he was getting his bike into. 🤣. It is really Fun to watch, feel pity and great respect at the same time.
I knew; no worries ;-)
A great attitude and perseverance, winning combo👍😎
Don't let yourself down, is very courageous of you to go off road just by yourself with a big bike like that. keep up Pedro , Respect!!!!, I am sure you have a Plan B in case you get seriously injured.
What an awsome episode really enjoyed it.
There are some awsome roads in Portugal, have to check them out myself someday!
I wanna give the owner of the moto a thumbs up
Looking at this video again after my own Tet experience (dropping the heavy bike in the mud uphill) : picking the bike up twice like that in a day , drains lots of physical an mental strength. You are coping very well! Stay safe bro, loce your videos
Stumbled upon this channel pretty much randomly, heard living daylights sang and subsribed right away :)
This was really good. I enjoyed the lil rants.
Great video backed by great temperament.Cheers.
Great video & lesson! Your resilience is 👌🏽
Glad to see I'm not the only one who sings in their helmet
Flashbacks to my own similar situations....I feel for you! 👀
Tricky day bro, stay safe and strong. Cheers ✌✌
haha its the best, I love his videos :D
@13:30....FINALLY, somebody showing real world situations. But the most fun for viewing is.....a Hardly guy (no typo) TRYING to pick up his ride. And his old lady. But I gotta ask....why didn't you air down the rear? That would give you a bigger contact patch/sidewalls, negating the center ridge of the tire quite a bit.
That looked like a little bit of hell. Well done for keeping the cameras rolling at a time of great stress. That is what storytelling is all about. I am a bit to old now to do what you are doing but there will be lots of people who will benefit from watching this. The weight of the bike is crucial and it would be very easy to get pinned in these situations. 👍
Ahaha pretty dope content!! cheers from Lisbon!
If you have never spent a complete day doing this over and over again, you provably drive a moped or a car and have never been dirty in your life. Days like this are what makes the good days even better.
Saludos desde Argentina! Sos una gran fuente de motivación para salir y viajar en moto.
That was a tough one! A primeira viagem mais longa que fiz numa mota, foi precisamente a Vila Velha de Ródão. 😊👍
Ok. I have to say that you got me all attentive having found myself is similar situations. 100% For being real. You are welcome to ride with me should you find yourself in Canada. I have the purfect bike for you lol. Be safe and thanks for making this video.
I realize I'm commenting on a more than year old video, but I just stumbled on your channel a couple of days ago. Your ear worm is Greensleeves.
omg TOO FUNNY...Without reading the descriptions watching the video only I was "Hey that looks like Portugal." My Parents are from Santarem, finally went back 2 years ago and ready to go back. I need to show this to my dad. Would love to hit a ride a little bit of this.
That middle ridge of the tire 20:50 definitely doesn't look like it helps in this terrain. Thanks for documenting this journey, I think you put everything on the bike to use! Glad you're uninjured!
*The struggle is real. "Is that a rear view mirror in your pocket?....." Haaaaaaa!!!! Don't feel defeated, my friend. Cheers. 👍👍👍*
and thats why i ride a mountain bike lol, great effort Pedro
Not just that, it's also the best for international travel since you can bring it across borders as baggage without any paperwork. You just need to put in a little bit more effort to get ahead. Cheers!

That was a marmot, we call them rock chucks or wood chucks in the US. Great video!
once I read somewhere, don´t go on such a trip alone, you fall with the bike it can break your bones, you can lay under the machine, can`t free yourself, finished ! Anyhow I appreciate your honesty ! What I learned is NOT to do it like this. (but to blame myself in your age I did something similar on high mountains gravel road what I wouldn´t do anymore. Don´t challenge your luck too much )
