      The period of regulation is followed by a period of dysregulation. It's not an exact science that they do it right on 5.5yo. For some it's earlier.

    • @GrowwithAnnaB
      @GrowwithAnnaB  2 года назад +1

      Hang in there, you've got this 💪 In my experience half the problem is that teachers don't seem to be aware that this is typical behaviour for 5yo. Stay calm and don't fall into shame. It's not your parenting or your child but a phase to get through. Keep talking to your child about what isn't acceptable behaviour and try to have a dialogue to understand why they are acting this way. There is usually always a trigger.

    Alors il faut profiter de l'âge de 5 ans à fond !!! L'idée de mettre l'enfant à l'école seulement quand il est prêt et pas forcément parce qu'il a l'âge est une idée super intéressante mais quel parent ira dans ce sens au risque de faire "perdre" une année par rapport à ses pairs ? Je demande à voir, il y a toujours cette forte pression sociale.

    Hello! I have 2 boys. One is 5 and the other is 13. The 13 year old influences the 5 year old, in a negative way towards me. Any tips?

    • @GrowwithAnnaB
      @GrowwithAnnaB  2 года назад +1

      Hey Sabrina, without having a lot of details I would suggest you have a lot of 1:1 discussions with your 13yo where you remain open and curious to understand what's pushing him to do this. There is a feeling underneath his behaviour - does he feel left out? Is he jealous of his sibling? Does he feel disconnected from you? My biggest parenting tip for anyone is to have A LOT OF DISCUSSIONS. Talking is how we resolve anything, especially with a pre-teen. Hope this helps!

    • @GrowwithAnnaB
      @GrowwithAnnaB  2 года назад +1

      On top of that I would also try to foster the fact that you are all a TEAM. That your boys are a team but also all of you as a family. This sense that you all have each other's back and that family is the safe haven you need in this world. Again it's another discussion with your 13yo. Good luck!

    When should a child outgrow the "typical behavior" of taking others things? At what point does it become a concern?

    • @GrowwithAnnaB
      @GrowwithAnnaB  Год назад

      I think you should trust your instinct on this. If it happens from time to time but at other times they are pleasant and regulated I wouldn't be concerned. If it's been all the time for many years to the point you don't enjoy your child anymore, it's probably worth getting an assessment. But I would also talk to educators or school teachers to get their opinion on it as they can see these things clearly since they can compare with many children. Also just to add one last thing, I would see if I could identify triggers like food or screen times as there are often triggers that can be removed. It's not all a development phase. Hope this helps!

    i apolgize for the long story comment. but, school boards and amdinistrators and well the government here in US need to go back to child centered play based. over 10 years ago most states have to follow common core standards which are not developmentally appropriate. kindergarteners including my nephew currently a student are expected to read at an 6 and half year old level of reading by end of school year. then there a math requirement. children are getting worksheets in class and oh teachers have to assign homework sometimes up to 40 mins a night. my major in study was child development/ECE. now kinders have to read to the test yep they are tested for reading end of year. Kindergarten is not mandatory in my state. i am sure my nephew is normal five year old you described. it;s so bad like lot of pre schools and pre-k's are now academic based. oh i heard some schools had to cancel recess active play outside and most classrooms don't have block area or dramatic play cetener. it's more circle times and for longer periods of time. i know a kindergarten classroom should be full of noise from children with lot's of movement. the teachers know too but the law says they have follow these type common core standards. so if a 5 year old is held back in kindergarten because of reading issue idk that sad because the child is acting his/her age but have to be labeled. i have seen around on internet some children in kindergarten needing tutors for them.unbelievable. and some also needing therapists. no wonder mental health is a big issue. i even remember having bit more play even in first grade. these days 1st grade is new second grade people have termed it. I worry about my nephew to pass kinder because unlike most of his class(assuming) have had pre school and or pre-k education,he hasn't. not sure why the school admins at most schools are not forced to take a child development course but they should have too. the common core was supposed to be because of competition with education like in Asian countries. lot of children there are pushed and pushed go go go like how do they catch a breath. it's so sad because i know my nephew has missed a crucial time in development for social emotional learning development because well during pandemic and the whole no gatherings "law" he had only been around immediate fam like 9 of us. children are losing their sense of wonder because it's lessons,homework,sit be quiet and even some schools have gotten rid of arts. testing scores and competition seem to only matter but i know lot of teachers are trying to keep some fun as much as possible. imagine going to college and studying ECE, then after graduating land a post as teacher and then bam this is what you need to teach these children too. wanting to read at age 5 is a normal wonder even if they are not developmentally ready. my nephew on car rides has child tablet to "read to self picture books. i think exploring reading would be nice to learn in kindergarten but keep expectation of every child to read by age 6 and half about average age sometimes even 7 is better so i have heard. Classrooms should be full of toys and paint easles sand tables and playdough tables. my younger sis the child's mother had a kindergarten more like mine from 1987 mostly play based and half day. my nephew attends full day(about 7 hrs/5 days a week). i know that 5 year olds are still developing certain motor skills that 6 year old would have. no wonder i hear about meltdowns in small children in ECE being stifled in school and the whole homework thing. no one likes homework but in 5 year olds should be illegal. at 5 and til 2nd grade i used to eat school paste it was legit flour water and mint extract(non toxic) i am sure i wasn't the only one. my nephew is a very active lil boy he loves his recess and i m not sure if he started physical education class yet. i think he will thrive there esp. I asked my nephew yesterday what book did you're teacher read to while in class. He told me no book no stories. i was in shock even with common core story time is also very important for the children. i know even with hardships that my nephew really needs school. i feel bad that teachers have to do more to plan in curriculum on ways to put some fun in the lessons, no child should have to hate going to primary school(except bullying cases) the only issue that had me in tears til end of high school but starting in third grade was math. i had IEP. i mostly liked school though and there wasn't lot of homework but i want to say i def got more homework in 6th to 8th(middle schools)than high school and even college. last 2 years of high school were actually enjoyable for me and so was attending college classes.

      I hear what you are saying because I love reading books but to give you context when this video was recorded, many parents in Australia (where I live) had been in a 7 month lockdown where they had to work full time from home, not go further than 5km from their house and 'homeschool' their children too. They had to do it all with no support. So this channel is mainly for parents who are so overwhelmed they cannot find the energy to pick up a book, I want to give them hope. But I do know some of my subscribers are those who also read and want to hear my perspective and I love that too ❤️

      The periods of regulation/dysregulation aren't exact and fluctuate in timing but if you watch my 3 year old video, it's also a difficult age. As mentioned in these videos, every child is different and this info is to be taken with a huge grain of salt, it's simply to normalise that children continue to go through regular periods of dysregulation beyond the 'wonder weeks' that we are so familiar with for babies
