I think Windows 7 Super Nano Lite would work well on that laptop it's on Internet Archive. I tried it on a couple of old laptops it worked well, the only problem is the drivers if the old pc/laptop supports windows 7. Great video btw, would love to see more of these type of content.

Windows 7 runs on basically anything released since 2000, as long as it has 512 MB. My 2004 Compaq Presario runs it with full Aero support lol.
I used to have a laptop with this body. Shipped with windows 98, 400mhz CPU, NO networking ports (no modem or Ethernet ) so I only got limited use out of it. Even as a kid in 2004 having no form of internet connectivity sucked. Picked it up used at some weird shop.
…I didn’t know about PCMCIA modems at the time. Wish mine came with one!

Windows 7 is designed for Old devices from 2000s until now. Even new hardware can run it just MS lied about it. I have it on a 2021 laptop and works on all sorts of stuffs

I bought an HP touch smart tm2t-1000 brand new. It had a minor physical webcam issue that HP made me ship it back for repairs. They had it for months and sent it back not working properly (worse than when I sent it to them) and they said they would no longer repair my model number or something silly. They shipped me a POS laptop that didn't come close to an equal replacement and closed my case out.
I took it to geek squad because I was a new mom and didn't know anything about computer mechanics. I loved this thing and barely got a chance to use it, brand new. Anyways, geek squad said the hard drive was probably corrupt and it wasn't worth replacing, they transferred my few files and pictures to an external hard drive.
I haven't given up. But I don't know what I am doing. I want this thing to function. Right now it is stuck on a start up repair loop (says it is repairing disc errors).
I only have a cell phone to try to troubleshoot and read repair advice on. I've gotten into the BIOS but get stuck in loops and give up again for another few months. I stumbled onto you video because I was going to see if I could try to reinstall windows 7. I know I probably sound totally ignorant, because I am. But I feel like I have a computer that is likely not trash, I've had for 13+ years that I bought new and I still have no idea even what software I had on it?! I am mad and my stubborn indignation won't let me just give it up and get rid of it. In the time I had it I absolutely loved the features, aside from the heat. I feel like it might be a simple-ish fix but nobody was willing to take the time to figure it out.
This thing is a beast. I will buy a new hard drive and teach myself how to install it (if it isn't too insane, cost wise). So if you were in my shoes... Where would you start? I've wondered if I could connect this laptop to one I have that functions but has a damaged screen and between the two try to figure something out, but I don't even know if that is possible. Am I wasting my time on a stupid endeavor?
Hi! I definitely understand your frustration, and would be happy to try to help! It's funny you mention an HP TouchSmart because I'm actually working on one of those right now. It's really hard for me to say if the issue you are having is really caused by a bad drive or just some corrupted files or something like that. There are software tools that allow you to repair corrupted files, but without knowing your specific issue, I can't really tell you what to do. I'm assuming you've already researched this and have tried basic troubleshooting steps like booting into safe mode and using the chkdsk command. If none of that has worked, the first thing I would do in that situation is download Windows 7 and create a bootable USB drive or DVD, but that would require you to have another computer and an empty USB drive or DVD. So if you don't have those things, your best bet is to hop on eBay and buy a copy of Windows 7 to try a clean installation. Just make sure to check the serial number sticker on the bottom of the laptop for the correct edition of Windows. If it fails to install, then you probably have a bad hard drive, and your only option will be to purchase a replacement drive. For most laptops, you'll probably need a 2.5" sata drive, but this varies. Buying a new drive and a copy of Windows 7 won't really be cheap (the drive should be relatively inexpensive) but it's really your best bet. Hope that helps!
