Thanks for being so responsible about the denatured alcohol messaging. It was much needed. Also, I wasn't previously wearing gloves which I now will. Thankyou 😊 your message made a difference
😊 I am happy to hear that! I have worries quite a bit about people trying dangerous alternatives, especially while isopropyl alcohol has been so hard to find. 💜💜
Magical, absolutely magical! Thank you for the lesson, can't wait to see more. I just started with alcohol ink because of pieces of art like this. I love anything shiny.
STUNNING LORRIE!!! BEAUTIFUL!! THE COLORS ARE PERFECT, AND THE GOLD IS TRULY MAGICAL!! I LOVE EVERYTHING YOU'VE CREATED. YOU ARE MY INSPIRATION. 🥰🔥❤🌈🎨🌷
Diana Thank you for that comment! I wish more people would, too. It scares me that some people have been telling others that denatured alcohol is a viable alternative to isopropyl. When no one is countering that, many people have no idea how dangerous the denatured can be. 💜💜
This is so beautiful! Absolutely stunning! Kudos for your talk on the different types of alcohol and especially the denatured alcohol! Good for you! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
💜 Thank you very much for the compliments! I just hope people take the dangers of using the denatured alcohol to paint with to heart. With isopropyl being so hard to find right now it really concerns me that some people are going to try denatured anyway. I saw a post on Facebook just today from a woman who didn’t see anything wrong with using it to paint with because her husband used it in his shop sometimes. Oh well, all I can do is put the information out there and hope people pay attention. Love and hugs to you! 🤗💜
Deborah, yes you can do this on canvas. You just need to prep it with a few coats of gesso or a waterproofing paint like Kilz ( I use Kilz 3, but 2 works as well). I’m sorry if you have asked about this before and I didn’t answer. There are times I get behind on comments and just can’t catch up with all of them. I hope this helps you! 😊💜
❤️ So gorgeous! This is the perfect video to show to those people who say, "My grandchild could do that!" They need to see the time, talent, experience, knowledge and expertise it takes to create a work of art this beautiful.
😊 Thank you! Lol I have actually let my grandkids (ages 8, 9, and 10) try this and they just got really frustrated because they have watched me paint many times and seen all my videos, but still couldn’t get a soft, wispy type look even with me standing there coaching them on what to do. It is definitely harder to do than many people realize! I really do appreciate your comment! 💜💜
This is one of my favorites of yours. I have learned with alcohol ink - DO NOT PLAN - and you will enjoy the creation more ;) lol Thank you for sharing your beautiful talent!
lol I had to go back and watch part of the video to see what you were talking about. I had never realized that I do that 😂. Thank you for the comment! 💜😊
I’m practicing and practicing but yup i is so expensive! I love your videos, you explain so well and are so hopeful, I needed this encouragement today!
Great video, Lorrie. Following on from what you were saying about dryer output ... I agree, maximum 500 watts. I'm using a 300w dryer and that is more than powerful enough. Thanks for sharing.
I love love love your work. I have just started doing alcohol ink work. Your channel is the best. I was an oil painter for years and then acrylic pours took over, now this. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you
Thank you so much! I hope you are learning all you need for this style of art! Sounds like you have a wide spread of artistic background, so I hope you end up loving this style as much as I do! 😊💜
Honestly, the fact that the one corner turned out very bright and shiny makes it look really cool and adds something of a 'weight' to one corner, or a focal point. Maybe that 'mistake' was also the ink talking to you. ^.^ This kind of painting makes me think a lot of how you blend watercolors, but far more organic and with a random element to it. One of the best things with art though is that even when you have a piece you might not like, or that is not your favorite, someone else might love it.
Thanks so much Lorrie for encouraging us beginners to just continue and practice!! And also sharing your struggles, despite your obvious expertise. Love your paintings!
Thank you for the very sweet comment! I think I would be doing everyone a disservice if I didn't share the frustrations I have at times. It only helps people who are newer to this to see how to fix or just push through some of the issues I know that we all have. Thank you for taking the time to comment! I really appreciate it!
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment! I hope you are getting all of your questions answered and getting the information you need from the videos! 😊💜
Hi Lorrie, thank you so much for sharing your wisdom, knowledge and tips! I bought inks six months ago and finally did my first painting last night! After watching you today, I am so excited to try this technique that you shared here! I can't wait to watch more of your videos! ♥♥♥
You are so welcome! I hope you are getting plenty of tips and information to help you as you are starting out. I hope you end up loving doing this as much as I do! 💜💜
Lorrie you do such a great job and you are so right "it is a lot harder than it looks". I have done some that I love but I really needed to watch this one, you did a great job showing us how to fix some areas that weren't blending. I love that you can always go back and rework an area. Thank you for showing us how to create beautiful pieces.
Lureen Helton 😃 You are so welcome, and thank you for the compliment! One of the great things about AI is how easy it is to rework areas you aren’t happy with. There aren’t many mediums that are so simple to do that with! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! 💜💜
Thank you so much for the safety warning and which alcohol to use! So many don't cover such an important issue as safety. I had some trouble with resin while even wearing a respirator, so I take warnings very seriously. Love your work and videos. Again, thank you! No denatured alcohol!
Was just scanning through the video again and heard your comment about people not being able to get the Piñata brass outside the US and remembered a video by Edna Wagnar in France I saw a while back where she made her own metallics. Just went back and found it from about six months ago. Hope this helps those who can’t get it.
Your video is great. I've been struggling with getting the ink to do what I want. I was blowing it into long tendrils but I noticed that you put the air source to the side, like you're a dog herding sheep lol - the results are brilliant. Thanks, I'm going to keep trying x
Thank you for the compliment! If you haven't watched video [19] yet, you might want to give it a try. I go into detail about how I keep from getting those fingers of ink running everywhere. It might help you a little bit. 💜😊
I bought it to pop microbubbles in my resin works. So I sprayed it not touched it but... I am doing some ink painting now so Im glad you let me know to stock up on 91% very appreciated...
Thank you for the comment! I have started using 99% and am liking it more than the 91%. I am not having as many problems with moisture beading on my paper since I started using it. I would recommend the 99% if you can get it. I get mine through Amazon. 💜😊
Wonderful! I really hope you love doing this as much as I do! It can be a little stressful at first as you are learning, but the practice is definitely worth it! 💜💜
This one is absolutely awesome! Just beautiful! You are really a good teacher and I’ve learned so much from you that I’m actually starting to get this! Thank you so much for sharing your talent on this medium.
You are so welcome! I am always so happy to hear someone is getting their feet under them (so to speak lol) with this type of work! I know I have said this to you before, but I really do appreciate your wonderful comments! 💜😊
I just got my alcohol inks tonight, and I was so excited to jump right in. I was OVERWHELMED by the smell of the isopropyl. I live in a small, not really well ventilated apartment, so the only thing I could do to dispel the odor was drag out my air filter. It took more than an hour for the smell to go away. If I had seen this video before I opened them. I would have returned the inks and tried something else. Now I'm stuck with them, and no way to actually use them. :( This is BEAUTIFUL though!
I am sooo sorry to hear that! You definitely do need a well ventilated place or a respirator with P100 filters on it. There are ways you can use your inks without having to add much, or any, alcohol to them. You just can’t get the really soft, wispy look without using isopropyl alcohol or blending solution. The blending solution might be something you would want to try. It has a scent, but it’s nothing like the isopropyl. You should try dabbing the inks onto glass or ceramics (like vases, etc. that you can pick up at the dollar store or thrift shops). You can make some very beautiful items this way and it will give you a way to use your ink if you don’t want to invest in or use a respirator.
@@LorrieBrewer thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, it's not just the alcohol, but the smell of the inks themselves that I can't tolerate. I put one drop on a watercolor painting and I had to throw it away. I am very very sensitive to smells. Think this one is just a no go for me. But I still LOPVE looking at the beautiful work of others.
I completely understand. If I didn’t have a very well ventilated space I doubt I could tolerate the smell either. My respirator blocks the smell, but I don’t use it if I don’t have to (although I probably should use it all the time). I wish I had a solution for you other than another purchase to get a respirator and good filters. They can get really expensive. You might be able to sell your inks on a Facebook alcohol ink group if you really want to get rid of them. I have seen others that have done that. I hope you find a good outlet for your creativity soon!
I stopped at target today and they have 91% one bottle per person! I grabbed one but they had like 30 left! I’ve been using my airbrush (since I own one) but I can’t wait to get this blow dryer! Thanks for the tips and psa!! ♥️
Beautiful! I saw this and said out loud to the cat, "I want to do that!' Thank you for sharing how you created this. I have some alcohol inks-- which have been sitting for awhile....
@@LorrieBrewer Thanks for the reply😸😸😸Well, I tried once and did so-so. Didn't find 91 or 99 isopropyl and too inpatient to wait for Amazon-- so headed to liquor store for 95% Grain booze😎. I was too heavy handed with my inks...will try again. I posted it on my iG: lisalin1616.
Thank you! I have not tried it on fabric (on purpose, anyway lol) but I have been thinking about it. My only real concern is how well the colors will hold up since alcohol inks are not very UV stable. I am not sure how to seal the colors into fabric since my normal sealants wouldn't work for that. If I ever figure it out I will definitely do a video on it! 😀
Thank you so much! This is my favorite type to do right now. I had been wanting to do one with currant since I saw yours lol. I sent you a DM on Instagram with a question whenever you happen to have time to check it 😃. No rush! 💜💜
Jan Shaffer 😃 I either put them in a mat with a backing so that they are ready to frame or sometimes mount them to a wooden cradle board and resin them.
Thank you for all your wonderful instructions. I am having a hard time getting my brass to work like yours? It just seems to want to blend with the color I'm using. Can you give me any tips to help with this issue?
Hi Lorrie, yet another masterpiece... It looks gorgeous, thanks for the warning - I've never heard of the stuff but when you're listing stuff that they use in embalming then you know it can't be good for you! 😰 Keep Safe, hugs Mary X
Thank you for the compliment! I know everyone is wanting to try new things to replace alcohol right now, but I wish they would do a little research before they cause harm to themselves. Thanks for your continued support! Stay safe and healthy! 💜💜
Thank you! The only difference is the heat. I use the cool setting on my dryer to keep from warping the paper. Some people do use heat guns on the lowest heat setting, but mine was still warping it like that. I also like the extra working time I get before the ink dries with the cooler air from my dryer.
😊 Thank you! Lol My favorite colors tend to be reflected in my art and clothing, although I didn’t realize that I matched the painting on this day until someone pointed it out to me lol. 💜💜
So very beautiful. I cannot wait to have a go. When you decant Pinata brass into another dropper bottle, how do you shake it up without the ball bearing?
Thank you! I just hold my finger over the tip and shake it until I don’t see the metallic part settled at the bottom of the bottle. You can put a small ball bearing or bb in the bottle if you want to. It just hasn’t been necessary for me. Maybe I just use mine so often that it doesn’t have time to settle too much lol.
Lorrie, thank you so much it seems like it is so relaxing even though you say it is not easy to do...just watching you do use the alcohol relaxes me. This is very inspiring. I'd love to start trying to do this. Did you prep your paper with anything? Thank you💖💖💥💥💥💥💥
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! You don't need to prep your paper since it is made for alcohol inks. You need to make sure you get the right papers to use with them. My favorites are Grafix Dura-Bright, Grafix opaque white craft plastic, and NARA synthetic art paper. You can also use the matte back side of glossy, inkjet photo paper (not the glossy front side). I use Office Depot, Kirkland's, or Staples because none of them have a watermark on the back and they are a little cheaper since they are store brands. You can also do this on canvas, but you do need to prep your canvas with gesso or a waterproofing primer like Kilz or something similar. If you decide to give this a try, just remember that it takes more practice than most realize until they start. It is relaxing and I love doing this style of art, but the learning curve can be stressful if you aren't expecting it. It is completely learnable by anyone, though, as long as a person is willing to practice and hang in there. I do hope you give it a try! It's worth all the practice time once you master it. Lol Sorry for the long response. You know I can be a little talkative and rambling!
Try not to get discouraged. It just takes practice. If you haven’t watched it yet, watch video [19] on the frequently asked questions. I go into detail and demonstrate how to work on keeping your ink/alcohol under control in that one. It may help you some.
Thank you for showing this! When this is done do you put something over to seal it or what do you do when you frame it how do you frame it or display it ?
You do have to seal it or it can be damaged very easily. I use several light coats of spray varnish - first I use a few coats of Kamar varnish by Krylon, then several light coats of UV Archival varnish (also by Krylon). I use the Kamar first to seal the inks so they won't reactivate, then the UV Archival to help prevent the inks from fading so quickly since they are not UV stable. Make sure you let each layer of varnish dry completely before you add another layer, and always make sure your painting has had a few days to make sure it's completely dry. Once sealed, you can mat and frame, just frame, mount on cradle board, mount then resin, pretty much any way you want to display it once you seal it! 😀💜
😂 No, easy wasn't a word I would ever have used when I started out. I still have times that I struggle to turn out a painting that I am happy with lol. Don't ever feel like you aren't getting anywhere because you aren't happy with every painting you paint, or because they take you a while. I don't care who the artist is or how long they've been doing it, every single one still has bad paint days where nothing seems to come easy and we can't turn out a decent painting to save our lives! Lol We just don't share too many of those or no one would watch our videos 🤣! Feel free to reach out to me if you are struggling with something and maybe I can give you a tip or two to help out 💜💜

Thank you for the compliment! I hope you are creating gorgeous paintings in no time! 😃💜
Lorrie, I love your alcohol ink techniques! Have you ever done it on fabric?
This turned out so so beautiful! I'm gonna be trying to do my own alcohol ink art soon and this was so helpful, thank you!!
Beautiful!!! Love love love!!!
Jennifer Isaac 😊 Thank you so much! 💜💜
Beautiful!
😊 Thank you very much! 💜
Another beauty. I think I should use more brass. Hmmmm.
Annette Duguay 😃 Lol Gotta love that piñata brass!!! 💜💜
Absolutely beautiful - loved watching your video!!! Thank you so much - and stay well!
😃 Thank you so much! Hoping you and yours stay well! 💜💜
Love the colors ❤️🇩🇰
Gosh this is gorgeous!
😊 Thank you so much! 💜💜
Beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you for the compliment! I really love the way this one turned out! 😃💜💜
This is beautiful
💜💜 Thank you so much!
Stunning.. thanks for sharing!
💜 Thank you so much! 💜
Love this my friend, this is my type of painting. X
Thank you so much! This is my favorite type to do right now. I had been wanting to do one with currant since I saw yours lol. I sent you a DM on Instagram with a question whenever you happen to have time to check it 😃. No rush! 💜💜
Lorrie Brewer hi Lorrie, I can’t find the message on Instagram. ? x
This is sooooo beautiful 😭😍 I’m going to try something like this
Absolutely gorgeous!!✨✨✨
😊 Thank you! I appreciate that! 💜💜
That’s stunning! I plan to do something like this on my new home, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
You are amazing!
Jan Shaffer 😊 Awww! Thank you for that comment! 💜💜
I love Tim Holtz but you are the master with these Alcohol Inks! Do you frame these? Or do you use them in other ways?
Lovely work, is there a difference between using a blow dryer, or a heat gun???
Thank you! The only difference is the heat. I use the cool setting on my dryer to keep from warping the paper. Some people do use heat guns on the lowest heat setting, but mine was still warping it like that. I also like the extra working time I get before the ink dries with the cooler air from my dryer.
Love this - again! And also love the way your shirt is colour co-ordinated with your art! Fabulous!
😊 Thank you! Lol My favorite colors tend to be reflected in my art and clothing, although I didn’t realize that I matched the painting on this day until someone pointed it out to me lol. 💜💜
i love it
😊 Thank you so much!
@@LorrieBrewer thank you so much, and keep up the brilliant work. Xx
@@LorrieBrewer thank you so much, I'm a starving artist (not really artist) but I will visit your store and get a few things at a time.💖thank you!
The cool setting blows on high though I don't have that much control over my liquids to use the cool setting.
@@LorrieBrewer thank you !!
Thank you for sharing your expertise! How do you get your art printed on clothing? And can I use photo paper to paint on?
I told my husband everything looks so easy but it sure isn't he said Karen I'm sure theirs weren't at the beginning and it takes practice.
Feel free to reach out to me if you are struggling with something and maybe I can give you a tip or two to help out 💜💜
Hi, this is beautiful. Please could you recommend a heat gun. I have an embossing one but it’s too hot. Which do you prefer?
Thank you for shring your knowledge!!! your works are sooo beautiful🌹
I am looking for hair dryer with low pressure like your one. Can you please tell model of the ome you are using?
