I just got the iPhone 12 mini. And it’s a big upgrade from my iPhone 8. Battery life between changing has not been an issue for me. I plug in at night and charge overnight. So far, I unplug at 8a give or take and plug back in 10:30-11p and only used about half of the charge, and I’m on I think a lot. I’m on Facebook, RUclips, email, phone about average to above average amount of time. My iPhone 8 I had to change every 3-4 hours doing the same thing or less.
Tech reviewers are so out of touch. You can tell they’re not designers. When did people start believing that enormous phones that don’t fit into the average person’s hand are somehow “good design”. The Mini is 100% a step into the right direction.
My 11 pro will stay in my desk drawer, my new 12 Mini is a dream come thru, for so many years i have been swearing about the ever growing size and weight, still bought them all.. But now and then i power up my very old iPhone 4 and it is just marvelous, and 12 Mini is right up there, one that sticks with you.
I love that phone... yeah battery life is a problem but I can carry a power bank when I go out.. I love the phone this much . best phone for minimalists
The battery "issue" is completely overblown. Saying "it doesn't last" is complete bullshit. The iPhone 12 mini lasts hours longer compared to a (new) iPhone 8, X *and* XS. Only when comparing it to phablet-sized phones like the XR, 11 and "normal" 12, it's slightly less, which is completely expected. I wouldn't call it a problem to have a phone that lasts hours longer than an iPhone 8 or XS.
I don’t get why they don’t make them just a mm thicker and have them last a good full day. This has been a criticism for _years_ by now and people buy other phones just because of that shortcoming.
I’d wager it has something to do with production cost inefficiencies. Product design is never as simple as changing some dimensions and moving on. Every unique feature or dimension introduces new configuration costs, tooling costs, packaging costs, assembly costs, etc
they could've made it thicker if it were for curved sides but with these flat edges, you would've not been able to hold that phone. Like you could've but it would be an unpleasant feeling, and that is why apple made phones slimmer with straight sides.
I'm coming from the iPhone 5s. My battery didn't start to fail until this year. The 12 mini is a huge improvement over what I had in regards to battery life. It lasts for me.
@@hunterjayfilm definitely. They’ve only used USB-C for one generation. I’m coming from an iPhone XS to a 12 Mini, and I’d need a new power brick. Minimum they should’ve adjusted for was people upgrading after two years but preferably 3, matching contract lengths and average time people will hold onto their phones at minimum.
8:28 It's clearly having abnormal battery self draining behaviour overnight without actual usage. It might be due to the machine learning for a new phone or something wrong with the phone. Otherwise, the battery level should be remained. Without this issue, the battery should be able to last much longer.
Yep. With any new iphone or after any ios update, apple has made it so that app updates are gradual over a night or two which leads to battery drain for new phones over the first 2 days or so.
I’ve had mine about a week. My last phone was an iPhone 6. This is a huge improvement in every dimension. I have a very expensive camera for taking pictures. No phone will ever do better.
Dude but with that camera.. in a small package is just insane. I've the iPhone and been uploading videos with HDR 4K and more tests... the quality is just so good that is just incredible. That overcomes the small battery...
Every new phone needs breaking in period for battery to reach peak performance. You can not judge a battery life immediately after purchase. I LOVE this thing and I will be buy it regardless of its battery performance. Size is everything
The same people complaining about the iPhone 12 mini battery life are the same people I have to boss around at work telling them to get off their phones and get back to work lol.
Hmm. that's actually a good point. I would assume people who really want a compact phone are using it as such and using laptops or tablets for their media consumption.
Everywhere is always near a charger whether at home, in the car or work usually with fast chargers to top it off if going into a restaurant, store or etc. I love my mini and still use my 5s for work.
After some initial battery growing pains, I end every day at about 50% on my mini. I use my iPad when I’m home, and I have a job that doesn’t involve me using my phone for business. I love these tech reviewers that think everyone is just on their phone constantly, 24/7 lol
@@TheJeonyboy It's the only reason I upgraded my 8 to the 11 Pro, for its battery and camera, and never looked back. There were times when I was traveling with my 8 and I was worried I might get stranded without a phone in the middle of the day already. Nobody wants to feel like that.
Big screens are shorthand for technological progress? I respectfully disagree. I would dare to say that smaller but equally powerful phones takes more innovation, engineering design and technological advancement than larger phones. After all, you can just take a bigger screen, slap it on a new body without improving the components and there you have it, a bigger screen phone. It is definitely easier to make big powerful phones than smaller powerful ones. In smaller phones, you have less room to cram in all the components together. You need to redesign, rethink and improve your tech to be able to do that. Hence, I appreciate more the smaller phones not just for ergonomics but also in the technological standpoint. But of course this is just my personal opinion.
How’s the battery of this 12 mini compared to the 11? With my sort of use of the 11, the battery lasts for about 14 to 16 hours. If it’s the same for the mini then I would seriously consider a switch.
Hope someone can reply between 11 and 12 mini about battery life. I’m just stuck to buy 11 or 12 mini now. I just want a good battery life for whole day

Not everyone uses their phone for RUclips and games....we have our laptops and iPads for tht.... So mebbe the battery is much less of an issue and its people like u who gotta get their perspectives straightened....jeez....every youtube channel thinks of a mobile phone as somehow being this laptop/PC replacement....ugh!
Poor battery life has become a habitual occurence for iphones. They should increase the thickness to accommodate a bigger battery or implement graphene batteries.
My wife has a iPhone 7 that drains battery from 80% to 5% after 10 minutes of facetime with her mother at the long term care home. This iPhone mini’s battery (ordered already) will blow the 7 out of the water. People who want the mini don’t actually play games and watch Netflix all day on it. They use it as a phone and want to take pictures here and there. This is perfect phone.
@@leonid3472 Because I reckon vlogging requires a good battery life, doesn't it? I mean, it's an activity in which you keep the display on and is constantly using the camera and mics, so it must consume more than social media activities. That being said, as you could see in these reviews, the mini has a low battery life and the iphone 11's is also not that great, so you'd probably do much better with an iphone 11 pro -- this one has an insane battery performance.
I think you’re being too dramatic about the battery life. This is not a phone to heavily use it (watch videos or play games all day). It’s a phone for people who already have an iPad for that, as I do. Can’t wait for my mini!
12-13 hours on and off in one day - my weekly total hours on my iPhone 7 is 16 hours. I have 0 problem with battery draining and 7 was way better than my iPhone 5s. The 12 mini has better battery life than all my past phones so it's an upgrade for sure
Love the size, hate the battery... nothing will ever beat the Xperia Z1 Compact with the android version it shipped with (after an update the battery was pretty much gone)
Dude.. You're a phone reviewer. You should know that Apple will release a 100% increase battery case to put on all their phones. Once this happens, the mini will easily become a two day use phone.
That’s true but he’ll probably create a separate video for that. But there are also things to consider: not everyone will but the battery case (Spigen user here) and right now it’s for people who wants to use the mini as is, no extensions attached.
I'm moving from an iPhone 6 with a replacement battery. I'm sure the mini will feel like SuperMan compared to my 6. And I don't live on my phone being retired and have an easy spot to wirelessly charge my phone in our new Tesla.
I was waiting for a compact iPhone with a square design for years! And even if the mini would cost 100$ more than the regular iPhone 12, I would still get it. Battery life is somewhat of a concern but I still expect it to be an improvement over my iPhone 6s with a 5-year-old exhausted battery :D

@ohuhi 123 These phones are already expensive though....
Planned Obsolecence....Thats it
I just got the iPhone 12 mini.
3:38 if they only lit up the cutout, the screen would get burn in problems, see the Note 20 Ultra S-View case
Maybe look at the watch for time?
Tech reviewers are so out of touch. You can tell they’re not designers. When did people start believing that enormous phones that don’t fit into the average person’s hand are somehow “good design”. The Mini is 100% a step into the right direction.
Let’s be honest. With a battery case, this is simply the perfect small phone.
Nah iPhone SE 2020 is way better value for money with a battery case
Why not go for 12 pro then, lighter and cheaper probably
@@xc6105 Cause it's ... not a small phone?
Did they announce a battery case though? I hope so
what for u need battery case lol u r away from place for charning for 24H,?
Have you seen the sales numbers man? I agree with you but Apple is going through the roof.
1 mm thicker could also get rid of that awful camera bump
@@muneeburrehman4698 that sounds like you were born in the smartphone era! Phones have been thicker with no issue before
I'm coming from the iPhone 5s. My battery didn't start to fail until this year. The 12 mini is a huge improvement over what I had in regards to battery life. It lasts for me.
Looking forward for the iPhone 8 vs iPhone 12 Mini battery comparison :)
Maybe this should have been the last iPhone to get a power brick in box lol 😅
Truth hahahaha
@Elizabeta Majstorović you will be fine . Also buy a charger case and only use when you have too .
my phone mini has great battery life. it was on ten percent like 3 hour ago and is still on
"Small and fast, but doesn't last"
i feel very attacked
😂😂😂💀
you poor soul.
Hahahahaa
I’ve had mine about a week. My last phone was an iPhone 6. This is a huge improvement in every dimension. I have a very expensive camera for taking pictures. No phone will ever do better.
Dude but with that camera.. in a small package is just insane. I've the iPhone and been uploading videos with HDR 4K and more tests... the quality is just so good that is just incredible. That overcomes the small battery...
but obviously for heavy video shooting you need keep an external battery around and we're good to go...
my 12mini is totally great! set it to dark mode and turn off unnecessary settings. my batt is good for 12 hrs or more (it depends on the usage)
I think people buying this won’t be consuming lots of media on phone to begin with so may be battery is good enough for them.
Hmm. that's actually a good point. I would assume people who really want a compact phone are using it as such and using laptops or tablets for their media consumption.
Everywhere is always near a charger whether at home, in the car or work usually with fast chargers to top it off if going into a restaurant, store or etc. I love my mini and still use my 5s for work.
I’m upgrading from the 6s so i’m fine with that;)
I upgraded from a 7. I love the 12 mini.
@@J1Z06 same here
After some initial battery growing pains, I end every day at about 50% on my mini. I use my iPad when I’m home, and I have a job that doesn’t involve me using my phone for business. I love these tech reviewers that think everyone is just on their phone constantly, 24/7 lol
u cant always have pros
U have to sacrifice when u want a small phone
I'd rather sacrifice 5G and magsafe for a larger battery, honestly. Everything else looks perfect (except the notch)
@@dimitrified THIS. Worrying about battery life gets old so quickly. Battery is king honestly
What can i do if i had ordered one 🙊
@@TheJeonyboy It's the only reason I upgraded my 8 to the 11 Pro, for its battery and camera, and never looked back. There were times when I was traveling with my 8 and I was worried I might get stranded without a phone in the middle of the day already. Nobody wants to feel like that.
@@lctc06 it's good man don't regret
The way you use the keyboard seems like you had a very long time with a huge phones
I just want a good battery life for whole day
1:04 where can I get that wallpaper???
It’s in the iOS 14.2 update :)
You have not mentioned charging speed while talking about battery? If it can charge very fast then this will be less severe.
The first thing i will do with it, it is put a matte back screen protector anti finger prints ^^
Yup! That’s what I did... such a beauty with it on
I hate that this is considered a small phone. It’s literally a normal sized phone. Anything larger is a tablet.

Johnny: can relate
Bought this baby alongside my s21 Ultra. It’s such a dream using this mini. Love the size and being able to put it in your pocket takes me back to the early smart phone days.
I have to charge my iPhone 7 several times a day. The iPhone 12 will be a big improvement.
I have now Sony Xperia XZ1 with 4.3” screen... the iPhone mini is still too big... but better than anything else available... So going from Android to Apple is closer than ever in my life!
i just want to know if its going to last more than my half-dead 6s
Coming from a iPhone 11 Pro I love the mini 12. Only drawback is the battery does die fast but it’s charged up so fast now it’s not like it matters
Battery 8:05
Thx
How much will the battery life be better if I always keep it on power saver mode. I did that with my 7 for the past 4 years
Amazing review buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
I have it and I love it. I don't waste all day with the phone and the rest fits perfect for me.
To be honest I charge my phone a lot anyways so battery life doesn't matter as much
Not everyone uses their phone for RUclips and games....we have our laptops and iPads for tht....
So mebbe the battery is much less of an issue and its people like u who gotta get their perspectives straightened....jeez....every youtube channel thinks of a mobile phone as somehow being this laptop/PC replacement....ugh!
thank you. i couldn't decide between the Mini and the 12, I'm gonna go with the 12.
I got the mini. Super happy with it. Didn’t realize how much I hated having a big and heavy iPhone…
Poor battery life has become a habitual occurence for iphones. They should increase the thickness to accommodate a bigger battery or implement graphene batteries.
The 11 pro models have the best battery 🔋 better than most Androids
got mine yesterday and i couldn't be any happier.
the people those who are buying this r not buying this for playing games👍
You don’t buy a phone to play games.
You buy a console or a PC.
@@dohran you use your phone for more than games, normally
You can’t say that because that’s not true, at least for me. I didn’t buy it FOR video games but a game a lot on it
My wife has a iPhone 7 that drains battery from 80% to 5% after 10 minutes of facetime with her mother at the long term care home. This iPhone mini’s battery (ordered already) will blow the 7 out of the water. People who want the mini don’t actually play games and watch Netflix all day on it. They use it as a phone and want to take pictures here and there. This is perfect phone.
What should I choose for vlogging: iPhone 11 or iPhone 12 mini??
Yes
@@rafikz77 Nooo. What's better? Not yes
neither.
@@guiT39 why?
@@leonid3472 Because I reckon vlogging requires a good battery life, doesn't it? I mean, it's an activity in which you keep the display on and is constantly using the camera and mics, so it must consume more than social media activities.
That being said, as you could see in these reviews, the mini has a low battery life and the iphone 11's is also not that great, so you'd probably do much better with an iphone 11 pro -- this one has an insane battery performance.
Should I get the 12 or 12 mini? And what colour?

*heads straight to comments*
Yes ha
The weight and size is what sells me. The battery is my only gripe but I guess it’s better than the older iPhones I’ve been using.
Dude lost me when he said he had to “relearn to type” when using an iPhone 7 😂
You know what guys, finally a Proper, Honest review ! Kudos Engadget !
dude did he just say "insanely fast" 2:55 for 54mbps. my 4g phone gets 170mbps
Reviewers legit forget about the best 'mini' before this, the S10e. I really want to see a side comparison of the 2 phone.
The 12 mini has better battery life than all my past phones so it's an upgrade for sure
yeah small and fast but doesnt last, that's what she said..
Well I don’t know what people are doing these days with their phones but my battery last the whole day with ease 👍 no problem.
“Small fast and doesn’t last” this thing is just like me fr🤣
Is the iPhone 12 cameras the same as the 2020 iPad Pro?
Love the size, hate the battery... nothing will ever beat the Xperia Z1 Compact with the android version it shipped with (after an update the battery was pretty much gone)
Maybe the reason why it’s battery is so low is because you have 1 MILLION TABS OPEN
What a sheep mentality. Buying a solution for an artificial problem.
Charged mine to 91% this morning. Used google maps to go around Tokyo and scrolled away in trains. Got home and still got 32% while watching this video.
I charge my phone every night anyhow... and when I’m in the car using CarPlay...
The issue is endurance. Your tiny battery will Lose capacity over time. Tiny batteries will be even smaller.
I've been using mini since 1 month, Battery Life is fine to me, and it is pushing me not to see the screen frequently, that increasing my productivity.
4:21 bro are you a carpenter, what happened to your hands?

I hope it's good cuz I preordered it
