    I read somewhere that this tenor mouthpiece is based on the Bari Woodwinds Esprit model, so I bought one and sure enough they appear identical except for one important feature. The Bari Esprit tip opening is about .085 inches and the Giardinelli is about .070, so if you were wishing that your Giardinelli came in a bigger tip opening the Bari Esprit appears to be it. It comes in a beautiful matte finish and I found one for even less money than the Giardinelli! The larger tip opening made a huge difference in my tone while keeping all the good attributes mentioned in your video. Maybe you could do a comparison of the two?

    • @Sirvalorsax

      I will look into it. I like having low tip opening mouthpieces though. Thanks for the tip

      @@Sirvalorsax I am guessing that Giardinelli had them reduce the tip opening to .070 for their version. The .085 Bari Woodwind version is also marketed as a student model and both are a heck of a bargain. Who cares if they are made of plastic if they play well?

    Wow! I recently found the D'Addario Jazz Select 7M (105) which is SUPER free blowing with a 1.5 vandoren green box reed, but that Giardenelli blows it away for a big dark yet up-front sound. I'm gonna have to get one! It's got that darkness that I'm looking for (I'm a pretty "bright" player. Thanks for the review. RE: the articulation thing. You said "D" scale but noted and played an Eb scale. Is it me or what?

    Hi,
    Thank you very much for showing that you don't have to be rich to play saxophone. When I see 700 to 900$ mouthpiece, I wonder for most student and advance player if those mouthpieces are worth spending that much money. Love your videos.

    • @zachattack4982
      @zachattack4982 4 года назад

      700-900? Defiantly not for a student, if you are advanced and you want to spend that kinda money, sure that's your choice, whether it's worth it or not is subjective, for most it wouldn't be worth it, but maybe for you

    I’m not sure if I’m just not used to it yet, but sometimes when playing this mouthpiece, it does this weird thing where it borderline locks up and barely plays, but it’s not all the time. It’s great when it doesn’t do that though, I’ve tried different reeds I’m just not quite sure. Like I said, it could just be not enough hours on it 🤷‍♂️

    I bought one of these, and it was very good. I did a little refacing on it, with decent results, then decided to get a second one just to have for comparison. The second one was terrible; the table was concave all the way up to the facing curve break point, which meant that the reed always leaked. Very disappointed!
    My point is simply this: There are manufacturing inconsistencies you have to anticipate.

    I would take this basic plastic mouthpiece and open it up to a 7* Otto Link hard rubber slant signature 105" tip opening, or even a link 8, which is .110" thousands of an inch. You can't beat this piece for being inexpensive,( for marching band, for a beginner, or selling a sax with no piece included in the case.)

    Just ordered one for my Alto. Lets see who she rolls. Then maybe grab one for my tenor too. No matter what, It will reside along side my favorite mouthpiece stash, no Deadly Sin name dropping , but I have (G.A.S.) Question in one of your video's, were you playing at a place here in Nashville called The BRIDGE at The Renaissance Hotel? I did a gig there a couple years back on my bass and it sure looks like da place. Y'all got me thinking about a Jumbo Java and a marble D'Addario too! SVS, Excellent video's from the get go. THX. @@Sirvalorsax The more I play it the more I agree with you. I am no altissimo aficionado like a certain guy I watch on RUclips (you) but the little I can do is way easier with this mouthpiece than any other one I've ever tried and I've tried quite a few. I did have to replace the neck cork however to stay in tune, and the tightness has improved my playability down low. It really is a great mouthpiece regardless of the low price. Thank you for all the very informative videos.

      Sir.... stated "coming in around 0.070 to 0.75, ...#4 or so". Hope that helps. I find that the "number" rating is very/extremely inconsistent. I like the actual measurement as manufacturers cannot be relied upon to hit the published numbers anyway. Which is why I find most people say to go to a store and play mouthpieces until you find the one you like. Have a good day.

    Your review of the Giradinelli Tenor mouthpiece has got me interested in buying. But as you mentioned, not even Giradinelli publishes the tip opening or the facing length. You mentioned the tip opening "coming in around" .070 to .075 and then mention it may be a "number 4". I search for number 4 openings and find that many mouthpieces use that type of number system, but across the different brands, there is much inconsistency. I currently own three mouthpieces and not a single one measures out to be the measurements provided by the companies or by any chart I have found by the companies or from a search on the internet. I also found information on the internet (I know, it's the internet!) that says there doesn't seem to be an established manufacturing standard or set of guidelines for making mouthpieces - it's just whatever a particular manufacturer does. An example of inconsistency - My Vintage Selmer C * has published measurements as 0.071" / 1.80mm, for tip opening - it measures 0.062" / 1.5748mm. The facing length is published at 22mm, but measures 19mm. I am dissapointed by the true measurements because not, it seems I must either trust technical reviewers such as you, or I have to go to a retail store, yep - brick and mortar, and play a bunch of mouthpieces to find the "one". In this "Day of the Covid", I'm not going to go somewhere and play a bunch of mouthpieces - even if the store allows that now.
    Here is the question: Can you take a measurement of the tip opening, for the Giradinelli you have, and provide a reply to this?
    Thanks for your time and efforts. You have moved into the #1 youtube video maker for my viewing. Love the technical analysis of your videos and the music your videos have.

      With the device that I have to measure the tip, it came in between 0.070 and 0.075. (There are some inconsistencies with the device I used) The general standard is the one used by Otto Link. On the Otto Link scale, that puts it in the 4 to 4* range.
