    Wow. There seems to be a lot of color to be had out of this piece. Lovely sub-tones and a very direct and focused sound when you give it some beans - but without becoming piercing or buzzy. Great review as always Sir.

      Thanks for the review. I have one of the early Super Gonz 4/93 copper pieces. The only complaint I have is that the teeth guard fell off years ago. Trying to figure out how to fix it. My friend bought this mouthpiece and I’ll say this, he never ever sounded better but like night and day. My girlfriend, for my birthday present, bought this from him for me. I have yet to play a piece I love more and as an alto player the piece plays so well that it makes me want an alto piece that plays as well and consistently as the Sugal.

    Sirvalorsax.. all I can say is wow you really sound great on those pieces. You have a rich fat sound on those mouthpieces, they really sound great.I've also been working with Mr Sugal on getting a mouthpiece for myself as well.The funny part is I ordered my mouthpiece based off the first review you did on the defective mouthpiece. I understand it had his flaws but that mouthpiece had an awesome tone. So I took it upon myself to contact Mr sagal and order one based off the tone that you were getting. Also like you said Mr sagal has been fantastic about working with me on getting the right piece .He took the time out to ask me what I was looking for and he made a piece for me based off the description I gave him of the tone I was looking for. Mr sagal is a great guy and he really stands behind the product that he's putting out. I couldn't have asked for anything more. But again my friend you sound really great on those mouthpieces I've been listening to you for a while on the mouthpiece reviews that you do and I have to admit the Sugal mouthpiece really made your tone stand out. Keep up the good work my friend I watch your videos daily.

    I could definitely hear both the brightness & thickness of the sound, to your point about how it has the all the good aspects of small, medium, & large chamber setups. That's very intriguing to me as my desired sound concept has brightness & color without sacrificing a big, fat sound. I want to be able to cut steel & knock down brick walls! 😂

    On the eve of Thanksgiving I received this email from a customer who just received a KW III +s 18kt HGE size 7 :.. Emails like this and by the way over the past thirty four years I received thousands like this just make my work so worth while and enjoyable.
    "Hi Gary,
    “I’ve gotta tell you that this mouthpiece is not what I was expecting Not even close. It’s much better😀 I’m truly amazed! I can get a buzz outta this with little effort. Overtones, bends... I’m in love with this thing. I am using the Rigotti Jazz 2.5 reeds. I purchased a box with a mixture of soft, medium, and hard. I’ve tried the soft and hard and prefer the 2.5 hard so far, but I haven’t tried the medium yet. ,,,I’m thinking the size 7 was a good choice!"

    I really want to see your take on Vandoren Java mouthpiece (not the “Jumbo Java” that you already reviewed, just the “Java”). It’s Ralph Bowen main mouthpiece. Thanks again for your great videos.

    This one sounds pretty good and I agree there is that Sugal vibe to it. How in tune does it play? My older one was all over the place, so this might inspire me to try one of these. As far as how you sound, the note attack is not as crisp as say the Vando's, the notes are a bit slower coming out, but that's OK for pop music. It is more soulful. The Silverstein helps with the response issue I commented on a second ago and overall better with the Silverstein. Also, need to do the reed suck test. That would be interesting.

    Sounds great! But I’m a bit hesitant about this molding thing… Isn’t it really tricky to get a good consistency from one mp to another?
    From my experience ( not from hundreds but let’s say 25..) In mouthpieces, it’s really important that everything is exact. Facing curve, flat table, even rails, well worked chamber etc. etc. How do you guarantee that with a technique like molding??
    I mean there’s lots of stories, and also some experience myself, of inconsistency from mp to mp of same brand and size. Otto Link’s, Dukoff’s and so on. Resulting in that one piece can sound and feel really good and the next one not so good..
    Of course I should not criticize a mp I haven’t played, but just from the look..
    To me, the result compared to a CNC piece looks.. not that good.. that piece sounds really amazing, but again, consistency..
    Another question: the rails look really thick compared to most other brand’s?
    It doesn’t seem to have any negative effect, but most other mp-company’s seems to strive for relatively thin rails.. any comments on that?
    Thanks for a great channel and great reviews!

    Scientifically, adding mass to the horn doesn't actually affect the sound wave in any way. For mass/ wall thickness to affect the sound waves you make with a conical bore woodwind instrument, the walls must be both a fraction of a millimeter thick and slightly ovular, neither of which is the case with a saxophone.
    What I'm saying is that the heavy screws, heavy mouthpieces, heavy etc, are all phycological effects. That being said, if it helps you play better, do it.

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  5 лет назад

      I somewhat agree with you in that I can't tell the difference when listening back to recordings with or without, but the instrument does seem to feel and respond differently when mass is added to these areas.

    • @norsktube
      @norsktube 5 лет назад

      Consider this: the density and mass of the metal does affect the sound absorption properties which in turn affects the sound.

    • @williamdaniels512
      @williamdaniels512 5 лет назад

      @@norsktube I would think that two metals would not have different enough sound absorption properties to affect a sound wave in something the size of a saxophone, but I don't have anything to back that up, just my intuition
      Also consider this: one if the largest studies about this kind of topic was done with flute players. Sterling silver is considered the best head joint material. Scientists made many headjoints, some from silver, wood, steel, titanium, e ct. Out of the entire sample size, single a single flute player was able to identify the silver headjoint, and the data had no correlation for flutists actually identifying headjoints correctly

    • @norsktube
      @norsktube 5 лет назад

      The ability to actually detect any difference with the human ear is questionable for sure. My advice to people when they are purchasing anything related to audio is: when you can’t hear the difference, stop spending extra money. That’s the bottom line for sure.

    Crap, I was going to have you send the silver one to me, so I could try it, then I would send it back for you.

    I would say you can’t be objective after speaking to garry sugal. The man seems to be such a talented orator. He surely cast some mouthpiece loving spell on you.

      I’ve haven’t had the pleasure of speaking with Mr.Spencer...and only tried to do the thing by correcting the issues and replacing the piece Gs

      More seriously, Silvalorsax I like it better when you blind test a mouthpiece rather having one sent for you by the manufacturer.
      Let me explain. Let’s say a manufacturer has a manufacturing process that produces 30% very good mouthpieces, 30% ok mouthpieces and 30% not so good mouthpieces. It’s too easy to send a very good one to the reviewer.
      I am not saying that’s what Gary sugal’s production is like or anything and I don’t want to be rude to anyone but... that’s just a fact that has to be considered.

      The piece I replaced and sent to Adriene was selected by me from a new production (18 pcs) using a new steel molding process. Every piece played very consistently ..In fact on a scale of one to ten the 17 others being 8-9...Adriene’s piece I would grade as a 7 1/2 -8..All new orders are play tested by me and will be no less than 8-9..
