- This video demonstrates how to remove and replace your 2005-2009 Ford Mustang convertible window regulator and quarter glass. Tools needed are: 10mm & 11mm socket, ratchet and extension. Our left side window would not roll all the way up, it would roll up halfway then roll back down while the right side rolled up with no issues.

Well, just finished this repair. There were a few little things I had to figure out, but I couldn't have done it without this video, so I want to thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars and my wife thinks I'm the "Man"! Good luck to you always.
Thanks for the very helpful video on this repair. My regulator cable was broken at the plastic end. I purchased a new rear Motorcraft regulator $150 which came with a motor and I was able to simply swap my good glass over on 2 nuts. Of course I dropped one of the nuts holding the trim into the abyss and while fishing it out I dropped my iPhone down there for good measure 🤦♂️!! I also lubed all the top folding pivot points and the top moves much smoother. Good luck everyone!
My guy, you have saved me hundreds of dollars. I went online and bought a window with full assembly for $250 and popped that thing in just as shown and avoided a $500 bill for them buying the window and components, and then another $120 in labor!
In addition, my valve cover was leaking so instead of even asking a mechanic, I just bought one and replaced it myself!
Another several hundred dollars saved!

Bought 2 full window assemblys at junk yard for 150 total local shop wanted 1k for job Great vid took me about 30 mins per side I bought both sides my pulleys and wires were toast but didn't even need to change motors actuators windows motors all work great hardest part was getting side plastic piece that covers speakers lined up and back on now I gotta get some water n mold out have it detailed and im good! Have a 06 GT convertible could not have done it without this vid thanks!

Thank you. I took my '06 sled to three auto glass places and they all refused to do the work. I finally found a convertible top expert to do the right side but he charged $650. Now the left side is failing. I wish I'd seen this video before! ❤😊
Thanks, this is great! It helped me to replace the quarter window on my 2009 Ford Mustang Convertible after needing to break it due to locking my key into the car with no access to my backup key. :-) The only problem was the removal of the exterior molding. While I didn't crack mine when folding back (I did not fold it back), none of the little "plugs" came out of their sockets, but they broke off the plastic. It seems as they break before they would come out of their socket.

My window does work but only halfway so reading through the comments, it looks like it is probably the plastic piece on the pulley cord...I did hear a loud snap...am going to check it out now with much more confidence after watching....thanks again and yeah, magnetic screwdriver for sure!
How did that work out? I heard it on mine when I reached for the light but hit the vert hood switch instead.

Great video! I was trying to find how to remove the backseat door panels to get to the convertible top cylinders and no only does this video do that, but gives a great view of the cylinders themselves!

I have the same exact car, top goes back up no problem just the two back quarter windows don’t even move at all. They only went down once when I put the top down but never rolled back up. Not sure if I need to replace it but it sure seems like I do.

Yo tengo el mismo problema con la ventanilla del lado piloto , si se escucha que se activa el botón pero no sube y ya no puedo bajar el capote saludos yo vivía en monterrey solo que estoy en usa
En retrospectiva sigo con el mismo problema , me sirvió mucho el video pero como no se puede bajar la capota de mi carro no me dio espacio de quitar la aleta para revisarla afuera, así que mejor lo volví a poner y hasta entonces sigue dañado.

Careful folding back the exterior molding. I cracked mine while doing that. It might be more approriate to remove the entire piece instead of folding it back. Otherwise, great informative video. Thank you for posting.
I sure wish you had posted this Saturday morning.
Add a little Vaseline or other type of lubricant to soften exterior molding prior to removing.

I didn't see it in the video, but the wiring harness for the window motor on my 2005 had a fastener connecting it to the frame of the regulator. It was not obvious, so you need to get a light down there, and something to get under the round clip to pop it out, otherwise the window and regulator will seem stuck for no apparent reason. Also, I also couldn't get the plastic well molding off, but by popping the first 3 clips, and bending the molding just slightly enough so that it doesn't break, there was enough room to do everything needed.
So u were able to replace just the metal wire? I had an issue and orderd my own but didn't have the tools to take that clamp off to get the other one on. Mine in tangled again.

Thank you for the video, it was very useful I need to replace both regulator motor assemblies for a 2007 Ford Mustang. Rear windows won't go down, so Top doesn't go down. How would you rank the work from 1-10 for difficulty, 10 being very difficult (take it in to a shop)
You are correct! If the windows don’t go down, the top will not work.
If the motor runs and is jammed the top will still go down. I still recommend magnetic tip screwdrivers. It’s a lot harder getting those nuts/washers if they fall. If you don’t need to replace the whole assembly I’d recommend just replacing the motor

@@fourly1410 The top not working and windows are related. Your window might be unplugged. The top will only work the two plugs are operating / plugged in.
I have 2019 mustang and facing the same problem. Do you think i should do the same solution? Or its need another action?
I really need to know what outer trim that is. All the OEM replacements for the trim cost upwards of 300 for just one section of it.

On mine, it doesn't line up perfectly with the front windshield, which really sucks for noise at highway speed and HVAC.

The top won't go up or down without first rolling the windows all the way down, so it sounds like the car "thinks" your window isn't rolled all the way down.
The 1st thing comes to mind and I said it out loud during family dinner “that B*tch comes off?!” Now I have my brother and dad trying to show me how to do this! Bro I was watching this so I could do it in my own😂 I wanted to be and independent woman but I can’t with this right now😂I can’t I just can’t. Next time I’m eating alone😂
It is a very tough fix. It’s time consuming and can be frustrating. Patients is required. Also, be careful with the black trim around outside, mine was able to bend back, but it should come off as one piece. Good luck with your fix!
Is there a way to adjust the in and out on that small window? I have a 2005 convertible Mustang and I got that window adjusted to where it rolling up on the right spot when top is up but when I put top back and roll the windows up the passenger side fine but my side has a small gap from front window and small window but I guess when top up the top is helping the windows touch each other.
Is there a way to adjust the in and out on that window.mine needs to go out towards outside our mustang

One day I dropped the top and then when I put it back up and tried to roll up the back quarter windows I heard a loud snap and the right side got stuck half way down. Was a pain in the butt but I figured how to repair it with out having to buy anything. Pm me if you have any questions would love to help.

What should I do if I can’t get the quarter window to go back up?
How would I replace just the cable if it's frayed and tangled? Or the assembly that the cable runs through? My motor and everything else works just fine. I can't find anything on here that explains that process.
There are no replacement parts for the cable or plastic parts for the window. We typically buy the assembly and window unit from a used car parts (aka Junkyard). Some places are pick your own or the business can provide it to you. Got to car-parts.com to look up used car part company’s near you.
Will a 2006 v6 window and panel work with a 2005 v6?
We have not tried using an 05 window on an 06. The 2005 Mustang is a little bit different in small ways from the 2007-2009. However, being a Ford, an 06 window Might work for the 2005 model. If you buy one and it does not work, make sure you can return the part. Good luck.
Thanks for the great video. My quarter window is doing the same thing, only goes up half way but does roll all the way down. Is it harder to just replace the actuator?
It might not be the actuator. The window has a plastic piece that can break and it gets stuck on one of the braces in the window on the way down.
If you have not pulled out the actuator and window you will probably be surprised to find out it was the plastic guides that have broken; that was what I just found out. I found out a bit too late, watched the video Saturday, that the black trim is not meant to be folded back. Take the entire trim piece off. Additionally, if you unplug the window motor, the top will not activate.
Can anyone show where that plastic piece is that may break and get stuck? Also if you remove that piece will the window work all the way up and down if the window works half way up now?
I have an 07 convertible mustang and I changed the same window u did and my old motor was good but when I bought the new acuator or regulator it also came with a new motor so i have tried both motors keep in mind. I have not touched anything else and now my passenger side goes up while the driver side goes down. The controls are reversed somehow. Please please help me tell me if u know what could cause this headache. TIA have a blessed day
I'm not a mechanic at all, but it sounds like the motor is wired up backwards from what it should be. The "polarity" is reversed. So the wires going to the motor are connected to the wrong terminals of the motor. Could be wrong.
The top wont go down cuz the window doesnt work
So I have a 09’ and my top doesn’t go down to be able to take out the windows ? What can I do ? I checked the relays wasn’t that what else can I check ? The motor ?
If your windows go down, then it’s not a connection issue. Check the motor that is located between the back seat and trunk and also check the fuses. Sometimes the switch (buttons) go bad, check that also.

@@marcyscar if the 1/4 windows don’t go down, the the top will not work. It’s a factory fail-safe.

Most junk yards will pull it for you. Let them maneuver the window out for you.

Well I will answer my own question for you I figured it out there are a couple wholes that you stick that 11mm in and disconnect the window from the regulator and Abra cadabra them bad boys come out!!

Typically, it is a plastic piece on the pulley cord that breaks and it gets stuck against a metal brace on the regulator when the window goes up or down. I’ve seen people zip tie the piece to keep it from jamming.

How do you fix the windows not moving at all? Intermittently they work but lately when they are down and the top goes back up the button will not move the windows back up at all. Is it a motor issue?
It could be the window switch. Each side has its own window motor, so both 1/4 windows shouldn’t stay down unless both motors are bad.
@@MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC on mine they are both either staying up or down. Occasionally after 50 tries I can get them to move. It’s a 2010 mustang. If the windows are up and I drop the Top, both windows go down as soon as I drop the top. So whatever controls the windows when the top is being dropped works fine. But once the windows are down, the switch on the door controls the quarter windows and that switch or whatever it’s connected to is having the problem.

Ok guy's, I'm usually pretty handy at this kinds stuff but for the life of me, I can't get this window out! Can someone give me some advice. Mine is all the way down, I can get the window only up to the half way position, but as far as the entire thing I am stumped. Pls help!!
Try to get the window into a position that you can reach the bolts to remove the entire mechanism. It is more difficult if the window is down. Or you could try to remove the glass and then the mechanism.

We got our window and regulator at the used auto parts store (aka junk yard). We searched on car-part.com and it gave us the closest junk yard that sold an actuator and window.

The same window on mine wont move,the motor makes noise but I heard a loud noise then the window doesn't move.I wish I had the patience to do this but I dont.The dealership is gonna charge a arm and leg Im sure.Ugh
I found a "auto glass guy" that will do it reasonably... you might want to try a glass guy :)
