- Super basic installation of an H30/31carburetor into a 1968 VW Bug. This video isn't necessarily specific to the H30/31, it can be used for reference on all carb installs for old bugs.
Thanks, thanks to you I have the attitude to do this on my own. Greetings from a Belgian in Sweden.
Great video. I ran a 30/31 on my 1300. Great carb and easy to tweak.
This video was perfect, and easily described.
Excellent demonstration.
I’m glad someone is taking care of their yard but the timing, yeesh, hahaha. Great video you guys.🎶 Soooo shiny🎶
A job well done!
So the choke and the idle cut-off connections both come from the pos side of the coil?
Currently doing this I’m new to carbureted engines do you have to refill the carb with fuel
Nice video, just got my new H30/31 delivered today, looking forward to the install after seeing this. Looks pretty straight forward. Did you end up having to tweak the Air Mixture / Idle screws much afterwards? I hear they are fairly accurate out of the box. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks Brian! I did have to adjust the carb after I installed it. Luckily I have a buddy who is something of a VW guru and has an experienced “ear” for adjusting carbs. My advice is once the carb is on adjust both screws to 3 turns out. That should get you started.
Vdub Dummies may I ask where you ordered your carburetor at. I am looking 4 a solex h30-31pict carburetor. For my 72 superbeetle convertible, thanks 4 the help. Scott
Personally myself I place a microwave magnet under carb ,so if I drop the nut I don't have to chase it or look for it...somethings removing distributor is quick and give you more room .1 nut and 1 wire pop the clips and pullout,of course it's smart to rotate motor over to # 1 TDC first...pull clamp and all stay in time...
Does that carburetor run good with the 1200cc Volkswagen motor
Nice
Where did u get your carburetor
just installed my 30/31 need to go back and double check the back nut. my idle is all over the place. im also second guessing my electric choke as the wire connection is facing the wrong way nered to see if there are the markings to line up it runs and is alot quicker than the old 30/31 i had on it
Hi Garry! My local VW smarty says the following:
“Sounds like an intake leak. Also double check the idle cut off and be sure its working. Also sometimes new carburators come with a badly adjusted float. Lots of things could be wrong but without actually seeing it, I can only speculate.”
Hope this helps!
I’m in the process now of getting new nuts for the carb. Also got my S curve wrench I have a feeling that back but on mine isn’t tight. I’ll check the rest as well.
got the same a week ago, when the throttle/buterfly is open the engine fail and gets off, also in high rpm don't works well, i thiink is something wrong on the nuts , i have main jet 120 correction air 125 idle jet 50 power jet 65 , maybe need a bigger air correction
4y late but in case anybody else is here and having a similar issue, try swapping the jets. There are super conflicting sources on the web as to which goes where, but you want the idle jet (60min, 65+ recommend) in the angled hole and the pilot (55 recommend) in the straight one
You old carburator looks 100 newest than mine !
Is that a vacuum distributor or a 009 distributor?
How do you like the 30 / 31 carburetor?
I do like it. I've put 20k+ miles since installing the carb and no problems. :D
Bagaimana jika kabel elektric chook tidak di gunakan, apakah tetap hidup mesinnya
So, what happened to them? No new videos.
Good video. Any suggestions on how one would learn more about the vacuum ports?
Thanks Jacob! To my knowledge the plugged ports are used for hooking up tubes that have to do with either emissions or vacuum advance distribution, depending on the port. I've found that one of the best resources online for air-cooled tech info is Rob and Dave's Air-cooled VW Pages, www.vw-resource.com Hope that helps!
Some are for auto stick cars
Great video..looks like a clone of my unit . Did all of the above installation( same Solex carb but i cannot get it to idle. Tried everything..it just dies at low (idle RPM) i am 90 yrs old and stuck.. am not a mechanic..need help .
Hi Earl! Sorry you're having trouble. I know with a new carb I always start with the mixture and idle speed screws both set to 3.5 turns out. starting there should get you going. Let me know if that helps. I'm definitely not an expert..... hence the channel name. :D
@@timykgb thanks a million...just ordered a new 30 pict 1 and i will certainly try what you suggested..fingers crossed.. will try to give you feedback after installation next week..regards..Peter
Hi Peter. How did the new carb work out?
Is that a glass fuel filter I see, if so loose it. They are known to break and spew fuel all over a hot engine. Not good. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
