"The best method you will find is the one you create yourself' love that. I always find myself returning to old videos for little bits of wisdom like this. thanks Denis!
The algorithm worked, I'm here
Frank Vignola recently told me that teaching jazz is like leading a horse to the water, but you can't make it drink. Jazz is hard to learn by yourself, but having guidance from many people, and being inquisitive has taught me a lot.
This was great. Because of this, I wrote down my goals on my whiteboard to help me get focused!
goal 1 is actually "basic shred" :)
The Chang Method is by far the best! (I’m being a little silly, but seriously, these video are great. A teacher with context awareness, who can shift to meet each student where they are at, is by far an excellent place to come from.)
Thanks Dennis for all the great videos:-)
What a amazing human to share such a wealth of knowledge/encouragement! A true teacher indeed! Not sure why but his sharing reminds me of the giving tree childs book...may your class room be filled to overflow and the sooner the better!
My favorite online guitar teacher ever 🤗
Wow your explanation is so true and made a lasting impression, thanks chang
Hi Denis. What you say makes allot of sense and the truth of it is in your playing: awesome 👌
Wow, thanks Denis. I dig your sense of humor! I always knew I was special😎
Thank you for this, Denis!
Commeting to boost that algorithm!!! Amazing content, truly recommended!
Love from Mexico,

"The best method is the one that you create for yourself by getting to know yourself as much as possible. Knowing yourself means being really honest with yourself and being aware of what your problems might be. You have to have a clear idea of your musical aspirations." I like hearing this a lot. I kee coming back to hear this bit. I'd love to hear more. I feel like I don't know myself well, either. I'm trying to work on it.
Love from Egypt ❤
You are the absolute top notch.
I've bought all those methods!!
Thanks again Denis!
Hi Denis, I am a teacher and I do believe there is one method that suits all styles of learners and it's based on how we learn our native language as we all learn that in exactly the same way. And it is more than applicable to the guitar.
When children learn their first language, they are basically .... transcribing by listening to what they hear and repeating it. I teach music in the same way. Those that don't insist on understanding all the theory behind everything all do really well and grow better than they thought possible.
thaks master you are amazing, salute from colombia
Great lesson. In the end we are all self-taught.
Funny how one of the adds during Dennis' video was one of those revolutionary guitar teaching methods.
This videos was uploaded on my birthday, received my bd gift late but loved it
Happy Birthday!!!
Glad i found this channel...or the channel found me.. subscribed
RUclips algo, make this guy a legend.
Hello Dennis
I hope i ll reach your level...
In the next century.
Thanks à lot
I attended the "Bar Talk Conservatory". The musicians who offered me advice and encouragement were and are something of immense value.
Robert SHURUNCLE Oh I attended the same conservatory... In fact , I haven’t graduated yet!

Thank you Denis. I have a Godin as well (though a 5th ave series), so it was nice to see a Godin on this youtube video. I'm an amateur, but I love learning jazz guitar and love trad and swing jazz music. I've had four different jazz guitar teachers over many years that I stuck with for at least 6 months each. I have to say that each taught in a totally different way. I really didn't know what I needed to learn, or what my strengths or weaknesses were. But, after watching your video, I'm going to list them and work on them, as you suggested and practice. Of course, asking questions of pros I respect is one of the goals.
Awesome
Because of algorithm I am here
But is great I subscribed
Hope you are safe!!Not many Asians play gypsy jazz I think, would love to learn some day!!
My favorite kind of people are my fellow guitar bros
11:00 hahaha, thanks man!
awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the Godin
Hello Denis. Excellent and inspiring presentation. Have followed your career for a number of years. Remarkable.
I believe Segovia ( though a known tyrant : ) ) said he, too, was self taught.
Curious about the guitar. Considering there are many models from Godin to include the 5th Ave series and the JAZZ, why did you choose the Montreal? Best wishes from So Oregon, USA. Stay safe and healthy.
I’m not exactly sure why I chose this guitar hahaha! It looked pretty! I like it! I suppose I also wanted something that wasn’t too heavy and easy to carry around. They offered to send me this one so I didn’t say no :-)
@@DenisChangMusic Good enough, you make it sound great.
Dennis, now that Covid is over will you start up ur home stay program again ?
🔥🔥
Denis, I notice your Soundslice pieces of late are more mainstream jazz guitar than gypsy jazz.
Are you working more in this area in Taiwan?
Jazz music is really new in Taiwan, and it’s not very diverse. There is nothing ressembling trad jazz or Gypsy Jazz here, so rather than get bored , I decided to explore the straightahead territory, which I always enjoyed but never really seriously worked on! Fear not, the Gypsy Jazz will come back eventually. If not Gypsy Jazz then at least Django :-)
Also, It takes these guys years of playing and learning to discover the best way to learn.. anyone see the irony? Great video!
nice :)

what guitar are you playing
victor barker Godin Montreal Premiere!
How do to buy the book?
spencer sparrow the book has to be written by you! :-)
Why the towel over the guitar?
it’s my first time spending my summer in Taiwan where it is ridiculously hot and humid, it’s causing allergic reactions when my hand is touching the finish of the guitar
It's for the tone

RUclips has placed ironic targeted adds on this video for me.

The problem is we don’t how to communicate right I was thinking really hard about what you were saying when you were talking about the two over the five chord It was just so weird how you said that No offense just being honest
Denis ___ Your Playing is immaculate, Your Instructions are easily understandable, however: ( and there always is a 'however' ), you need to trim down your Chit-Chat, and get to the the business part of the lesson... you can talk forever , without imparting anything of use. Keep unessential's, to a minimum . Thank you !
Algorithm still working..
play,...anyone,s daughter,....from...deep purples,,....fireball,..... album...just weird,an some kinda jazz etc, with some good humour, blackmore can play anything....as he has proven....
Yeah being self taught is really frustrating.
The method is keep practicing even if you're frustrated, there's no methods, anything that's easy is not worth it.
Everyone is different, including me I have adhd, yeah I know what the fuck am I doing if I can't focus, I will keep trying don't care it's my life
The donger
Don’t mean to be insensitive or anything, but do you by chance have any Japanese heritage?
Hey dude, would you be so kind to talk about accompaniment? No freaking body did a video that's not stupid basic about, at least in the vast amount that i watched
Hey man, I’ve got a couple of videos on just playing the chords for jazz standards, I’ve got fly me to the moon, sunny side of the street, Misty and I’m working on a new video for cheek to cheek. Sorry to cut in Dennis!
@@AdrianWhyte thx!
It depends what you mean on accompaniment as it’s quite a vast subject . I did make a video on old style accompaniment last year. I think it was called Gypsy Jazz Rhythm Secrets or something, but it only focuses on four to the bar rhythm used by Eddie Lang, Django, Charlie Christian, Freddie Green, Miley Cyrus
I thought this was support to be about being self-taught.

What's up with the lip smacking?
Most people need help. They aren't autodidacts.
haha,你的头发要掉了
Great video but Lose the glasses man, it doesn’t suit a guitar players look
Ksuspended These are Google Glasses, they’re displaying autoscroll TAB as I play!
btw, would be willing to give me a few lessons over zoom? I find your teaching super helpful :)
Sorry, I only teach privately on occasion and right now, I don’t have time. But I will make more content. I have already made lots of content if you check my channel in the past year
as clear as mud. sorry.
bigfatpear I love mud! thanks!!!
too much talk
Try changing the settings in your VPN, if you tell the VPN that I m Taiwanese, your VPN will automatically censor me and make the video shorter ! 😍
