Tegu are probably the 'golden retrievers' of the lizard world for their inquisitiveness and affection-seeking nature from their owners, especially when raised by hand. This little girl couldn't have a better scaly friend 🥰
I've never seen one before. He's obviously got a ton of personality. And this family is awesome. These videos and Anna Breytenbach have definitely expanded my love for animals to include so many other species. ❤❤❤
@@zoa1-99....... stop trying to sexualize children sleeping with their pets. No one else thought of a sleeping position being referred to by a child as being something sexual except you. Maybe seek help.
What a COOL family! Even the dogs are chill around Chester. How many folks do you know who would consider bringing a rescue lizard home for a sleepover?
Before people come in all like "reptiles cant FEEL!!" actually yes, they very much can, just in quite different ways compared to mammals. Moreover, Tegus like this guy are actually INCREDIBLY intelligent and many tegu keepers say the bond built with them is comparable to a dog or a cat, which is really cool! Personally, i quite enjoy the idea of an animal that likes closeness even if its for heat and whatnot, like many reptiles are like with humans. It means the animal trusts you a lot! Its why i love ball pythons, because theyll just stick around you for heat and youre a weird warm safe tree to them. I like that!
@@CBRN-115 honestly same. For the most part I believe we do know reptiles are primarily instinctual, but it's kinda unclear when you have some that are mostly very very simple, and others like tegus, ball pythons, some garter snakes (like ringnecks, who are colony snakes that are shown to actually be able to communicate together and actually seem to enjoy company from their own kind!), Some turtles, and hell even king cobras who are absurdly intelligent either strategically, or emotionally. It's honestly probably a case of humans completely missing the marker when it comes to judging other types of animals, rather than reptiles being inherently less capable of emotions or intelligence. We tend to base our ideas on what our mammal brains do, rather than observing and understanding that different types of brains exist and can function differently, but may give similar results. Also I just wish I knew what most animals thought tbh. Dogs especially, dogs baffle me at times lmao.
I honestly believe that trust is the ultimate form of reptile love. They don't generally seek out affection like a dog or a cat would, but the fact that you can pick up a lizard or a snake and have it relax in your arms instead of running away or going on the defense is wild. It probably goes against every bit of their instinct, to remain motionless while a giant creature handles them. That's why I believe that it has to be love. What else can cause such an irrational reaction?
@@kaiyamya9882 That's the thing, you can't actually tame or domesticate a reptile, and, they being creatures of instinct, earning their trust is a very gratifying achievement. Once this is done, you see their innocence. They are very much like scaly babies, except with jaws and claws.
I really like how she doesn't give a sh¡t what people think, they're all saying "Ew, you sleep w/ a lizard" and she's like "yeah and he's awesome".... Both of them are so adorable. 😊❤️😂
Sweet Chester!!! He's such a cutie!! I'm so glad he has a loving family to take care of him and spend time with him ❤️ People don't realize reptiles can be great pets and wonderful companions!! Cheers and love 💕😊
People are always surprised when animals respond to love and attention. Even insects can recognize favorable/unfavorable intentions toward them. This Tegu knows when he has it good. Hand feeding, being cuddled and eye to eye contact, who wouldn't like that?
My Pubba,, a black and white Argentine tegu, sleeps with me every single night. He's either in my head under my pillow, next to me, or on my belly. Tegus are the most amazing babies. He has his own enclosure with his own door to come and go as he pleases. There is nothing better than a tegu. Idk what I'd do without my Pubba. He even used to come to class with me, he would stay in my sweatshirt lol.
Argintine tegus are without a doubt the best large pet reptile you could get. And I have 4 in all including a wild caught female and three rescues. The time you invest into bonding and training them comes back ten fold. Super intelligent, very social with people and other pets, and they are very laid back personality wise. I would definately suggest if you consider a tegu, do your research as they do require a lot as far as enclosure space, heat, humidity, food, and above all attention. Also considering they can live 25 years or more, it's a huge commitment.
Absolutely. On my TikTok I always include that info on my posts. This video was a trim down from over 30 minutes of talking so much of it got left out as well :)
Weird is a subjective term anyhow. If lizards make you happy good for you. I have changed my mind about them because of the Dodo. They are great pets, as far as I am concerned.
My Bearded dragon and Uromastyx have very unique personalities. Lizards can absolutely have feelings. I love that she is being raised around them. That Tegu is so pretty.
This vid made me grab my Bearded dragon n kiss the top of his head lol. I love the bonds between humans n the animals we share this amazing planet with.

Awesome family‼️ ALL creatures have souls‼️ The love ❤️ in this fam can be seen whether it’s a 2 legged or 4 legged variety ‼️😉 TY for sharing your wonderful life with us 😊♥️🤍💙
Many years ago I built a very large terrarium to house rescued lizards & I’ve also rescued many snakes. I keep my property natural so that mice can live happily which draws snakes/hawks for balance. I was born a baby to Mother Earth and love all creatures, I was just like her when I was young. If all children were given this opportunity the world would be a different place 🙏 ❤️
I sleep with my lizard too!!! I love my Bearded Dragon and he's changed my life. Lizards are GREAT companion pets. They are so much more complex than what some people think. Mine is SUPER FUNNY... and likes to smile to tell me when he's happy. They are also very smart and show affection. We don't know enough about reptiles, and most definitely underestimate them and their abilities. LIZARDS ARE AWESOME!!!
I used to believe reptiles couldn't really form bonds with people. I've since seen the error in my thinking, and I absolutely love seeing the evidence of how wrong I was. This family is delightful.

No, the sanctuary is in MA. But I’m very grateful to call the people at NERD my friends. I met Kevin after I initially got over my fear but I’ve learned lots from him.
My daughter raised an iguana hatchling to adult. He was 6’ long eventually, would sleep with her much like a dog or cat. Lizards definitely attach to a favorite house member. He came to me (in the kitchen) when he was hungry, lol.
I’m totally amazed by these lizards and bearded dragons. I always thought well they’re reptiles, no personality, no communication with their owners, dull in terms of intelligence, don’t have the brain to show affection or needs but wow seeing these lizard with loads of personality, smarts, affection that’s not just I wanna be warm, they have preferences to people, it’s absolutely astounding. Hope her lizard doesn’t snore when he sleeps with his little girl. Or maybe they do that too. I love these videos that shows what great animals these reptiles are. I’ve only held a baby Boa in Biology and had two red slider turtles as a kid and one of them he followed me like a dog while the other was grumpy. And of course I loved them.
