It is a rock that forms in rhyolitic ash layers, then they can be filled in by agate, jasper, opal, or other material. Cut open to see the colors and pattern. Some can be very similar but no 2 are ever the same. Hope you enjoyed.
Curious why you cut straight through instead of cutting about 1/4 to 1/2 through and then turning to cut a ring around so the pressure is always from the outside to inside to reduce break out.
Just the way i've always seen it done, On larger ones, were my blade is to small, I have do it like you described, risk alignment being off and it breaking in the middle were the agate is.
@@TheRockNoob Fair enough. I do a lot of wood working and I make cuts from both sides to avoid tear out. Even if your cuts end up mismatch, you can grind and polish later for a flat surface like we do with sanding in wood working.
Yeah, I guess it's a trade-off on what one would prefer. I knew with these ones being weathered with possible cracks It was unlikely for me to get a clean-cut no matter how I cut them and wanted to preserve the agate as best as I could.
