- Turns out the mystery SBC EQ (Engine quest) heads flow quite well as cast! 600 HP Potential!
Some Flow bench results comparing them to Vortecs and Iron eagles
These are possibly a RHS Casting from years ago? Email send to RHS, curious what they say

Similar to Dart iron eagle heads I used on my 360 Sprint car in 1995 to 2009. They were cast iron. Best set I had were 235 cc runners with 49cc chamber. Used a flattop piston. Turned 8400 rpm with 2 3/16 Hilborn injectors on methanol.
First they were “Pro Top Line” from New Zealand, then they changed their name to “Pro Action” they made the castings for Engine Quest or “EQ” for a short time, they went out of business and finally Comp Cams bough the casting and sells them as RHS but nothing has changed in the design. I used to sell the Pro Top Line Heads back in the 90s and still have some pairs of cast iron for sbc 200 and 220 fully CNC runners and chambers new in boxes which they only produced at the beginning and stoped because it was too expensive to CNC cast iron.
Do you have a pair for sale
I have a pair of the 220s. Made over 580hp on a 357ci and ran 6.60s in the 8th.
@@thereluctantgearhead4544 you have a pair of the RHS 220? Any work done to them?
@@decaturboss yep, except mine are Pro Topline before RHS bought the molds. Mine are bowl blended with 2.05 intake valves. Believe they were cast in the early 2000s. Real good heads.
Hi. Would you happen to either have a pair still for sale and know where I could find a set? Thanks
I bought a set in 2004. Pro topline, through speedway motors. They worked super especially with the reccomended intake and cam.
I'm running these heads on my 99 GMC Truck with a Whipple AX100, 36LB injectors, Comp Cam, Etc. 411 PCM swap. Good video, subscribed.
It is amazing how many different heads are out there for small Blick chevy both factory and aftermarket bewildering!
I have a pair of EQ heads but with center bolt valve covers. And yes, they are heavy AF!
Engine quest AEQ heads are talked about extensively on the Brezenski porting site, they port exhaust and intake manifolds ect.
Also I wanted to say I really enjoy your videos. I've always had a strange fascination with sbc heads and you are really putting in the work on flow numbers and info on different heads. I definitely love to watch your videos good info keep up the good work.
Thanks brother! I appreciate the support
Cheers!
They were imca heads from early late 90 to early 2000s they love port work and will blow your mind on the flow bench if touched right they hold great velocities to volume I ran them on a 383 I built just to see how they worked comp to a set of aftermarket aluminum heads I had that were cnc ported but were in same cat exc for being aluminum with the cam custom ground they will hold there own ill dig up the records of them and tell you flow #.. those heads were #1 seller for a bunch of cast headed builds and never let down they love boost as well but then again what don't the cam was solid lift well into 600s lift ill post after I find in filing cabinet wit the cam and intake we used we got well over 2% per cfm more in the 2.2% range
I find some info on those heads, and yes great heads better than most high dallor heads, ok get this they cost right now 1100 bucks for 1 head 2200 bucks for 2. They came already ported thats why they're so badass. Great score dude good job
They are Engine Quest casting and I do believe they were sold through RHS (Racing Head Service) they do not offer the cast iron versions anymore but they are being sold in aluminum from what it looks like.
EQ was originally a Canadian cast head for the American market. They were originally made for classes that required factory style cast heads. IMCA and claimer series. They have now been bought out. Now cast in lower quality locations. You have to find pre 2015 versions to get the good ones.
Do you know if these heads were available in 1978?
They're just like the old Pro top-line heads I've got a set of Pro top-line on a 396 sbc. the original company was pro topline then they sold out to pro action then went to EQ then RHS. if I remember correctly
Iron headed sbc my dad had back in the mid 00’s had pro Topline heads on it. Motor made 650 hp na and had a 200 shot single stage on it. Ran 9.80 on motor and 8.90 on the 200 shot in a foxbody notchback
the part numbers i remember as i have a downloaded EQ catalog in one of the old computers at my momma's :o) pertain to runner size, intake style , and valve cover style, there were mixes and matches of every kind. So a regular intake for a vortec head, with center bolt valve covers and a different runner size or a head with both style valve covers , large runner and valve, with vortec intake, or even both style intakes. like i said and there were imca or ursa or whatever heads for racers that meet requirements for different rules, so they were in the game of a plethora of multi configuration, there was talk online and everyone would say yeah they are great if you want iron, why get iron when you could have aluminum. etc. They are great heads i know, and i used to study the flowbenches on them with other heads, they just didn't get on top soon enough, people were afraid to try anything different than dart or gm. When EQ is really better in my opinion. They are still out there. Wish someone would get the casting and equipment and start producing the tons out of them. RHS makes them today maybe ask them.
These heads are prominent in the USA super modifieds. They are a awesome head for 400ci or bigger
Those look similar to the World Products S/R heads, yet have some significant differences. Perhaps World Products did a deal with EQ to do a larger runner version as a proprietary version?
Can’t wait for the supercharger content. Always wondered what power mine would make has vortecs on a stock 350 bottom end with a procharger d1sc strapped to it.
Yeah man! Should be fun
Haha boost is always fun
I bought a set of these for $350 a few years back. Had to have a couple guides fixed but they are a nice casting.
I think I have an old catalog at the shop. We used to run them on IMCA class engines that require non modified small valve cast iron head. Really well engineered for the time frame they were cast. You can thank politics and IMCA for the disappearance of the availability of the EQs.
Just sold the last pair of NOS heads we had at the shop last summer.
I did end up getting some info on these from EQ. They are a old new Zealand cast EQ/RHS racing head.
And yeah very impressive as cast head
It's always the way when a small company has a desirable product and gets a market share. They get bought out by some big distribution company and they just suck all the assets out the company and leave the shell, pretty much a pretend company. You try to order anything and it will sit on 'backorder' for as long as you're willing to wait.
Guess I should have watched the entire vid before my previous comment lol.. I watched the first minute then skipped to the flow numbers. I thought this was a EQ 180 vs Dart 180 vs vortec.. as you stated in the vid they are 220cc. My first thoughts is they were an old cheater head with a cover up. Awesome score man!
David Vizard flow tested a set of 200cc 64cc chamber heads and they flow as well as the Dart platinum pro's.
I bought a new set, ported them further, milled them and had 2.0 valves installed. I expect to make about 625HP and around 500 ft/lbs on a 13.25 cr E85 385 stroker.
They are excellent heads.
Something puzzling: it seems that EQ is an Aussie company, that also manufactures heads for RHS, aka Racing Head Service. RHS, in turn, was once affiliated with Comp Cams. Some of the first crate motors were offered thru RHS in the 80s, always featuring Competion (as they were known then) Cams, either the High Energy or Magnums. But I don't know if RHS owned Comp, or vice versa, and I dont know if RHS now owns EQ, or just buys from them.
Those heads are used on limited modified dirt cars I believe
Cast in Toowoomba, Queensland Australia as that is the T in the circle is Toowoomba Foundry Trade mark, I was working there at the time,
These are eq heads. I can confirm most of the guys here to be correct. Specifically those looks like spec castings we use in the racing world. They’ve been around quite a while and have many variations of them. The smart guys know which ones are best as not all are exact and tech inspectors just see the “eq” and never know better. Wished I could help more.
Here ya go bro. Enginequest IMCA/WISSOTA Small Block Chevy Cylinder Heads. What EQ stands for . Speedway Motors sells them . A Flo-tek head is best bang for your buck we have run a lot of boost on them with good luck.
Eg heads but thats not those heads I seen the heads your talking about but it's not these ones
These are a bad ass set of heads that I think have been overlooked and under rated and for whatever reason they are extremely hard to find.
You can buy these anywhere,EQ sell them through dealers $450 for bare castings. Brodix arent much more for blanks.

I talked to EQ today and these heads are no longer available Im Told
They were casted years ago in New Zealand and they are a RHS/EQ head
Very well made and great flowing head
There might be some other variation of it still being make by other companies, but according to EQ its not available
Another great video keep it up!
We used to run a set of those out of the box on a 385 c.i. Super stock/limited late model dirt car. It hauled the mail. We won 11 out of 13 finals that season.
Hauled the mail haha love it!
I think im going to build a 388 with those for the channel. Would be fun to dyno
Just watched this video last night and happened to find a set of 64cc EQ Vortec heads on FB marketplace today. Current owner used 1.94 in and 1.5 ex valves with beehive springs. After watching a few of your other videos, I'm thinking I should buy them and get a valve job to use 2.02/1.6 valves with some mild porting. Beehive springs and cam to get over .500 lift and i should get quite a jump in power. $400 CDN is quite affordable for the potential of those heads! Great info in your vids
If you dont but them let me know and I will haha
I have an incredible set of early EQ cast iron gen 1 sbc heads. I have found next to no information on them. They have a 50cc combustion chamber and huge 206 intake valves. I haven't put them on anything yet, they are brand new and have never been run. I bought them from a drag racer who was building an engine for someone. They decided to go with an aluminum head and I was able to buy these ones. I have to build an engine to handle the heads.
Were these available in the 70's? Do you know the best sbc heads that were available in the 70's?
You gotta chase that T casted into the head. Id say those were world products sportsman 2 heads or knockoffs but those had a cf for central foundry so you gotta chase the T thats the ticket thats the foundry that casted them
Anyone ever heard of SBC "clock" heads.....supposed to be a stock head that flows amazing
They are racing head service heads and very good and rare heads!
They're probably some kind of circletrack secret sauce modified thing
Circle track guys love EQ heads.
I bought an 385 SBC last year with 305 vortec heads on it, its currently at the machine shop now getting rebuilt, I bought a pair of 906 heads 2/12/21 from someone on Facebook market for a 150 and dropped them off to the shop doing my motor Monday, hopefully they don't find any cracks so I can use them and keep 305 vortec heads FOR something else in the future.
I forgot to ask them how much to do the screw in rocker studs and some new valve springs when they do the valve job if everything else is ok with the heads.
this is my first motor project.
Awesome man! I got some 305 vortec head flow videos coming up you may be interested then
@@cuttersperformance I have 1 question would you be able to suggest a flat tappet cam for a 385 sbc with 906 vortec heads and I will probably use the 1.6 intake and 5.2 exhaust comp cam rockers that was on my 305 vortec heads. The motor will be going back in my 6in lifted 92 4×4 suburban 4.56 gear ratio front and rear, also it has 20x14 rims with 33in mud tires, 700r4 with torque converter with a stall of 2600 rpm, holley 750 carb and I have an high rise intake manifold with an inch carb spacer.
Way back in the day, Racing Head Service (RHS) was a big fish in the water.
I have world product stock replacement heads w/+1.94 intakes.stamped st. T' could be for torquers which had 2.02 intakes. Better than camel hump fueler heads. Clean up grinding can get 420hp on solid 350
I believe they had a bow tie on the 2.02 heads?
These heads look exactly the same as the old pro topline iron lightning kiwi heads, they ended up being sold as RHS (Comp cams) heads
I've got a set of these heads they are the pro top line 200cc lighting head 64cc chambers 2.02 intake 1.60 exhaust
Same head cores.
That's because that's exactly what they are the company out of Australia or New Zealand went out of business and the tooling was sold off and they were sold under a couple of different names over the years the heads were developed to comply in racing classes were a stock style cast iron head had to be used . What they are is a cast iron head that you could buy that were as cast like a head that was ported to the moon by someone that knows their ass from a hole in the ground. They were the head to have in mid 90s to early 2000s when you didn't want to have to sell off the house for s set of aluminum heads that didn't even flow as well those Aussies and Kiwi's know their shit when it comes to making insane horse power
Great video and nice heads. Looking forward to that 305 heads video and by the way EQ also made 305 vortec heads.
Yeah EQ makes some nice stuff
I thought it was very weird when I emailed them about these heads and they had no idea haha
Look into old tow truck wreckers some of them had upgraded heads to make more power for pulling heavy loads up hills. The thick deck would help with temperature when your foot is to the floor for long periods of time.
@@jesseharriott4253 Exactly

Thats badass man! Im thinking about using them for a nice 383 stroker build for the channel
A great street head as you showed a big flow means high RPMs. To get the performance ?
There a great street head for the price also
I have some eq vortecs. They are awesome
Do the vortec only have center valve cover bolt holes? I have a set of EQ's but they don't have the 4 VC holes like these
SR Torquers are stock replacement heads for 55-87 SBCs, but not made by EQ. They're either made by Dart or World Products, don't remember which. My current Summit catalog doesn't even list them. I believe it's the same company that makes the iron Sportsman Il's.
World products makes the S/R heads. Dart made the iron eagle.
Getting a free set of 305 Vortec for my 283 can't wait for your vid!

Have you ever flow tested a old set 67 canadian power packs, Old cast there off a 283/327,
I'd like to see flow number comparisons with a Vortec or Dart head with the same intake runner size. It seems you're comparing apples to oranges.
You are right its not fair but it was just to a show the difference of the heads vs flow. Wasn't try to say the darts weren't very good or anything even though I thought they would flow abit better than they did
If you want to compare them to the Dart SHP 220cc head
They have a advertised flow of 251 cfm at .600 lift. Thats almost a 30 cfm difference less than the EQ! Crazy
Just goes to show how well those EQs actually work
If I can get some larger darts if will for sure flow them and post the results

kinda off topic, I've got some Chev. 492 service heads (off a 360 sprint engine), know anything about them?
With a 50cc larger runner I would hope they out flow the Vortec, But the flow numbers that make power are at Mid lift not high lift.
Yeah exactly! Did you see how good the mid lift was for a larger runner head, I was impressed for a as cast head
I just put it up against the vortecs for comparison sake

@@cuttersperformance I agree, but the problem is that a 220cc runner is to large for anything but a 406 engine. I good head should flow 300cfm at .400 lift.

Have you seen or played with the EQ CC200A casting? 200 runner 49cc. The port floor ramps up immediately after the port entry and is a constant curve mimicking a tear drop cut in half. I think Pro-Topline and RHS tried this port. The racers said they didn't perform great at high rpm but were pretty good at lower rpm.
These castings actually has that ramped floor, very unusual looking but it seems to keep the port velocity high.
Hint hint: im going to be using these heads on a 388 stroker and dynoing it, should be fun!
@@cuttersperformance I wasn't quite sure about the port design of the EQ head you reviewed because I didn't hear you talk about it. However, I thought it might be the same port because it was so unusual that the flow numbers would have to be way different than the usual port design. Around 1.75" into the port the floor is .562" thick because they used the mold of the regular casting on the outside leaving a massive amount of cast iron on the floor. Crazy
@@philricke8372 i will be sure to get some better shots of the floor in a upcoming video!
Id love to find some more of these heads
@@cuttersperformance they'd probably perform best with a low-mid rise intake due to the port angle. A high rise would slam air/fuel onto the floor but who knows, that could be good? I've been wrong about many things I thought was right.
@@cuttersperformance name your price on the set I have. They only had a couple nights of racing on them since new and dropped a valve. I repaired the cylinder. The original guides are still snug and straight.
I need those
Like the info. vids, gotta be dumb & direct and ask where am I looking for these EQ's?
And any TStorm tests welcome, I just got the single charger full accessories kit for my 502 with MSD Atomic but not found anyone else with same setup - so just goin' for it I guess... so far gotta open up ring gap, and I know I need a large LSA cam.
Wherever you can find them haha I found mine on kijiji (Craigslist)
And cool combo man!
Look up the RHS cast iron 220cc heads on Summit. I think these are these heads.
In going to email RHS, I think they might have some info on these
Live and breath RHS!
