Yes. And for the people who complain about the time runs take (and the lack of saves) here is one thing I've found. After a couple runs though, you realize that you only need some of the resources that are available and you aren't wasting time scrapping every car you come across, etc. now that I've put a few hours into the game resource runs usually only take 20-30 minutes.
@4866Yeah I did 2 or 3 story runs and a couple of resource runs and for me it comes down to "god damn I need so much scrap metal... lets do another run just for that" and then game spawns like 15 different electrical anomalies (fuck that ball stucking to your car... like I mean fuck that ball) and I barely survive so I use all my chemicals and scrap to make putty and go again. I’ve finally bought this game months later on a steam sale. I’ve known about this game since the PlayStation showcase, but you guys have convinced me to buy from all your top 10 videos. I love the game, thanks y’all!
Loved the game so much, spent 35 hours in it so far. Here's a few things I would say to do: 1. immediately disable quirks in the gameplay settings. It's just not fun to deal with. 2. If you don't enjoy the in game music from the radio like i did (i'm just not a fan of indy), just make a road trips style playlist and listen while you play. 3. If you die or total your car, don't panic. Your dead body becomes a marker and you can go pick up all your stuff you lost. 4. Take the time to understand menus and what everything does, don't rush or gloss over literally anything or you will be super lost and confused. Slow down. Stuff they need to change/add: 1. Allow me to upload my own music files or give me a mod to do it. 2. Let me close the garage door while i'm working on the car. 3. Buff doors/panels health and nerf the LIM shield bumper mod. That thing makes you take zero damage when its on. 4. Spread out the missions over the map. I beat the story mode (20 hours) without going to 40% of the map. WTF is that? 5. When I scan something, I expect a journal note about that thing, but instead you will always get some journal entry of a guy talking about his lunch 3 days ago. ARGHHHH 6. You have literally zero agency on the actual story. You never make a single choice and characters are literally just telling you go here, get this, do this, good job bud, zzzzzz. 7. The car is supposed to be semi sentient, it even has a little screen that plays weird little pixel videos sometimes. Why can't it express anything? Give it a smiley face when I give it gas at least. I really dont feel like I'm "connected" to the car like the game keeps telling me i am. 8. You don't get to upgrade your engine till like 15 hours into the game which kind of sucks since the base engine is slow as beans. Why change that upgrade page to be "tuning" and adding components to the engine to upgrade the existing engine slowly over time so it's not so backloaded 15 hours into the game. Oh and even 35 hours in, and I just got the 3rd engine and in following the thing I hate most in this world is when cool upgrades come at the very very end of a game so I have no reason to use them after I finally get them.
This has been only the second game that I have pre-purchased. Had my eye on it for some time, and playing the demo convinced me. I have found the mystery with SF plot intriguing, and the tinkering in the garage oddly relaxing. I was also looking forward to this review, and thank you Gameranx for confirming my hunch. Tonight after work I am getting behind the wheel, and off to explore the Olympic Exclusion Zone.
i can't help but think of Alan Wake and Control. I could definitely see this as a backdoor addition to the Remedy Shared universe as a person stuck in an AWE
Yep….this is a must for me. I own a beat up old car that’s barely road worthy and it’s only 23 years old but I keep it going. It’s a struggle but it still can go around Australia if I want it to. Quirks? Just a series of knocks that no one can find where it’s coming from. The front left somewhere. This game actually sounds like my life. weird things and all. Don’t ask.
My daily is from 74 and occasionally the door catch will drop and the door won't close untill I reset the catch Or knowing just how much to pump the peddle before starting it in the morning Or the droopy rearview mirror that only has one spot that it will stay in that i can see with The paint is horrid the dash squeeks whenever it feels like And everyone I meet is amazed that I drive it regularly interstate over Easter I plan to drive from Sydney to Brisbane then over to Bundy then Stanthorpe and down the coast back home to Sydney that will be a few 1000km It's fun and really enjoyable having some variety in daily life I hope this game can capture that enjoyable struggle
To me this is more like 'my summer car' with *Heavy* insperation from a book called "Roadside Picnic". A book that also inspired the 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.' franchise.

I love games with interaction elements like this, they feel so immersive. A similar game I loved the feel of (though never truly enjoyed the puzzles) was Obduction. This game I think would work wonders in VR apart from the difficulty of motion sickness

These kind of driving games were never my thing. However... add Roadside Picnic-y/Stalker-y vibes like this one, and it suddenly fits. I liked the demo, for sure.
This game, except for its survival aspect, is the exact opposite of what I usually play. Strangely though, it looks so interesting, and different from "normal" genres of games that we are used to, that I've had my eyes on it for months and I can't wait to start playing it. This Before You Buy just sealed the deal for me, I'm buying it right now. Thanks Gameranx, you guys are the best, keep up the great work!!

The quirk system is a tricky, cool thing. It’s an ‘If>Then’ type of puzzle. You have to input the cause first, then the issue. For example; If I reverse, the hood opens. Years ago I had an early '90s Oldsmobile wagon that kind of looks like the one in game... and, oh boy, did it have quirks... things like how once in a while the radio would start screaming at you and the only way to get it to stop and just play music was to hit it with a crescent wrench I kept on the front seat solely for that purpose... I had the braking system rebuilt twice and they still only worked when they felt like it... and it wouldn't start unless you swore at it. I miss that car.
This looks like it has an awesome cozy vibe to play on a dark spooky rainy night, the atmosphere and visuals look really good! Also the car modding and mechanics look to be pretty deep and involved and that appeals to my car nerd brain lol
I've just bought and downloaded the game on the strength of the great demo released during Next Fest. I'm really looking forward to playing this game. Thanks for the great 'Before You Buy' Jake, as always it was informative and balanced 👍

I've played about 20 hours of this so far & absolutely love it. I generally like survival crafting games & am really into weird scifi stuff, so this game was right up my alley
Thanks guys! I have this in my wishlist since the first trailer came out, and I completely forgot about it 😅 Looks very intriguing and fun (although survival games aren't my thing tbh), definitely going to buy it after I come home later 😁
I absolutely love this game i remember trying to get out back to my garage all my doors were broken, panels too, and missing two wheels but somehow managed to get out.
Thank you so much for this video After watching this I was set on playing the game, and over the course of this week I put 40 hours in and beat the story, and it was incredibly satisfying and challenging the whole way through!
I'm getting goosebumps! I had a dream pretty similar to this, it was a game where you could go on foot and in a car. The car was not just any car but was integral to the story and gameplay to the game. You were driving around in all sorts of places, leaving the car to do tasks and return to it. I remembered one biome that had huge-tall trees. I think I have to get this game now.
LOL I love the fact that you had everything together, pretty clean car, at the final video clip there and then BAM you didn't see a line of tourists and two of your panels just blew off the car lol
Another thing to note about quirks is that you get upgrades early and later that help you diagnose them. (They become the main use of one of the early game recourses after you've used it to unlock everything else)
I was looking forward to this game when it was revealed at a Sony state of play. I'm just now starting to be more open to playing survival games after playing Palworld so I'll definitely check this game out. Everything about it just looks so cool and interesting.
This game is fantastic! I don't even like crafting/survival games but I loved this! Probs because it's also an action game. Just enough crafting and before it gets boring or annoying, the action starts. The difficulty slowly mounts and the action gets crazy building to a frenzy! You barely make it back to base alive and then it's a cool down with just the right amount of fun car upgrading before you head out on another mission. It's one of the best paced games ever. Perfectly balanced to keep you interested right up until the final credits.
I think one thing that might have given the game a little more spark is to have a little selction of cars at the start like test drive but you can only choose one for the game. The others would be scattered in the area and we could salvage them for parts. I will get this game over the weekend.
I'd imagine you as the player would develop somewhat of a bond with the car as you progress, same with the characters on the other end of the radio because it's just you going solo. I'm intrigued enough to try it.
It’s a deep & engaging game. Not for the faint of heart. If you want a game that rewards you for learning its systems & utilizing what you’ve learned on the fly, this is the game for you. It’s atmospheric, captivating & unique. I would very much recommend it. Once it’s optimized a little better it will be even more enjoyable.
I made it to the four minute mark of the video, and I already know I want it. So I’m going to stop watching this video lol. Another fantastic video Jake!!

I’ve finally bought this game months later on a steam sale. I’ve known about this game since the PlayStation showcase, but you guys have convinced me to buy from all your top 10 videos. I love the game, thanks y’all!
Loved the game so much, spent 35 hours in it so far. Here's a few things I would say to do:
1. immediately disable quirks in the gameplay settings.
Slow down.
Stuff they need to change/add:
ARGHHHH
Hope for a VR version. This game is so unique, and fun. I was typing unique right as you said unique lol.
no ur unique
First thing I thought. This game would be perfect for VR.
Shoutout to the novel Roadside Picnic for still inspiring new media to this day
Love that book.
Absolutely! Strugatzki Brothers have influenced pop culture so much, its crazy!
i can't help but think of Alan Wake and Control.
Don’t ask.
Yeah i do all of the work on my old cars and live in the pacific northwest where this takes place. Its my game to.
My daily is from 74 and occasionally the door catch will drop and the door won't close untill I reset the catch
Or knowing just how much to pump the peddle before starting it in the morning
Or the droopy rearview mirror that only has one spot that it will stay in that i can see with
The paint is horrid the dash squeeks whenever it feels like
And everyone I meet is amazed that I drive it regularly interstate over Easter I plan to drive from Sydney to Brisbane then over to Bundy then Stanthorpe and down the coast back home to Sydney that will be a few 1000km
It's fun and really enjoyable having some variety in daily life
I hope this game can capture that enjoyable struggle
Damn bro, /howcanimakethisaboutme
@@Butterkoekjes did you even watch the video? He asked us about this very thing.
23 years old cars are perfectly fine to drive, assuming they were looked after.
Am I wrong for thinking this kinda feels like a first person version of Dredge except a car instead of a boat? If so, that seems rad.
Yes, basically
If so, then its a must buy. I was sold by Dredges mechanics and mysterious world almost instantaneouslyyy
I was thinking this as well! With some Outer Wilds thrown in there to boot.
Yeah I got the same vibe from this, and it's a immediate buy for me. I had so much fun with dredge, hope this one will be at least at the same level
To me this is more like 'my summer car' with *Heavy* insperation from a book called "Roadside Picnic". A book that also inspired the 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.' franchise.
I played the demo and am so hooked. Ive been looking forward to it counting down the days since.
Twist in the end is that you were just lost in the REI flagship store.
Gameranx is my favorite review and gaming source now . They have great vids, are objective and have a decent level of humor.
I am say thanks to you for not say "unbiased". Too much peoples is not know what is this word "unbiased" is mean and these dummy peoples is say this word too much times.
@@donnydogpiss4533the only person who is dumb is you. 😂 what hell did you write?
The thumbnail. Its the example of gameranx classy thumbnail will never ever change, no matter whatever the damn game is
Big fan of that added gameplay at the end !
The best Page about games EVER, I follow you from years and you never disappoint ❤
I really respect what you are doing, because it have really helpt me to more know if I want the game, so thanks.
it looks super unique, can't wait to play it!
I checked-out around 7:00 because I'd heard enough about the brutally challenging, frustrating, and "dickish" world in an annoying and slow car to know I'd stress my poor dog out yelling at the TV. I don't think my personality is built well for a game like this. However, this is EXACTLY why I came to you for the honest review. I need to know these things before I jump into a frustrating experience. Thank you, Sir! Keep up the great work! 👍
We need vr for this game so bad
It works well with the UEVR mod, so it sort of already has VR. But yeah, official VR support would be incredible.
Truth
play into the radius it’s very similar to
I love games with interaction elements like this, they feel so immersive. A similar game I loved the feel of (though never truly enjoyed the puzzles) was Obduction. This game I think would work wonders in VR apart from the difficulty of motion sickness
This feels like a comical 1980s take on dimensional/quantum physics if you had a dream about it. The atmosphere is awesome.
Thanks for all the awesome videos you've saved me from some bad purchases and also have pointed me in the right direction for some amazing titles thanks so much
These kind of driving games were never my thing. However... add Roadside Picnic-y/Stalker-y vibes like this one, and it suddenly fits. I liked the demo, for sure.
I was wondering what the thumbnail would look like for Pacific Drive, til now. Gameranx, you did not disappoint 😂
Are you happy with it? I’m in the same boat as you
@@CrunchyBrownie5 haven't played much of it yet, but I am enjoying it. I encountered the Abductors (floating alien-like creatures) and having to sneak by them to enter a building and loot it gave me a rush hahaha I know they aren't THAT dangerous, but it gave me an insight of what's to come in harder zones. As Jake said in the video, it's a lot of looting and crafting, but it's so much different than what we're used to that I don't get bored. Well worth the 40$ (CAD) so far
As a survival car game enthusiast ( My Summer Car, Mon Bazou etc) I have been excited for this game to drop. I downloaded the demo today to play tonight on my night shift in preparation for tomorrow's release
'Sorry I'm late' I literally forgot this game was going to exist.
Wish I could, my son has put almost 100 hours into the demo...
@@ashnodmtg If he's a kid don't blame him, blame yourself for that.
@@secondchance6603 Why?
You've never spent 100 hours in a game? And if you did, do you blame your parents for it?
@@Qlicky 861 hours of RDR2 and still on chapter 3 kiddo and going by your, 'blame your parents' remark I have my doubts you're actually one yourself, you sound like a kid.
@@secondchance6603 So, are your parents to blame for your RDR2 obsession?
I am an actual parent that has spent hundreds of hours on tens of different games as a kid. But I never thought it was my parents fault.
Are you a parent though?
Judging by the fact that you're bragging about spending obscene amount of time on a walking simulator as if it was some kind of an achievement and your 'kiddo' remark I think I know the answer already.
this wasn't even on my radar, definitely gonna check it out!
This feels alot like that one tech demo game from many years ago where you drove around this trailer park past a dam and then this one other car would chase you. I forgot the name
Its called Beware im pretty sure
Yeah Beware. Still being worked on. Has VR and wheel support now and is a lot of fun.
Sometimes i forget how refreshing it is to watch a gameranx video to form a preliminary opinion on a game. no bias, no politics, just game pros and cons.
The quirk system is a tricky, cool thing. It’s an ‘If>Then’ type of puzzle. You have to input the cause first, then the issue. For example; If I reverse, the hood opens.
I’m having a great time with the game so far. Was excited for it prior to launch & its definitely living up to my expectations so far. Looking forward to the weekend when I’ll have more time to enjoy it.
Thank you gameranx for buying the games and making reviews, gameplay and purchase advice.
*IF YOU DIDN'T COME FROM TIKTOK RAISE YOUR HAND* 🤢
why would anyone come from tiktok?
Wait why…
@@mkv2718 Exactly. I heard TikTok _fries_ your brain so they probably don’t even remember that there’s other platforms; let alone how to open another window (or app) for it.
TikTok is cancer.
@@DefinitelyNotBenderI know that. Never have had the app, don’t plan on it either. I meant why would people be coming here.because of it. Is it trending or something
you give the best game reviews man, will be grabbing this. thanks
Can't wait to start this and review it, been looking forward to it for a while
Even if it's a game I have absolutely no interest in I still watch every single one of these before you buy videos, you guys are incredible, thank you for what you do!
This channel with Gamercross meets all of my gaming wants & needs. A great balance is found between you 2.
A challenging vehicle resource dependent open world survival game with upgrades and modifications? This is the type of game I have been dreaming of
Hats off to you guys two videos in a day I'm in ❤🎉
Years ago I had an early '90s Oldsmobile wagon that kind of looks like the one in game... and, oh boy, did it have quirks... things like how once in a while the radio would start screaming at you and the only way to get it to stop and just play music was to hit it with a crescent wrench I kept on the front seat solely for that purpose... I had the braking system rebuilt twice and they still only worked when they felt like it... and it wouldn't start unless you swore at it.
I miss that car.
I’m all here for new, unique IPs. I played the demo and it’s intriguing. I’ll likely pick it up soon
Literally watching before I buy. Thanks Jake!
Thanks for the great content as always, say any news on squirrel with a gun yet🤔 have a great one👍👍
Survival/racing/mechanic simulator/battle royal/extraction shooter/souls-like/minor horror/sci-fi
Mashup genre games are awesome XD
Easily my favorite channel on RUclips
i like how he actually seems to enjoy games and not just complaining about them like a lot of these guys
I tried it and i f..king love it. It surprised me of what I got from this game. Very cool and uniq game. Love survival games and this game studio really knocked it out. Keep up the good work with all the videos. Best review show on the internet. Pros and coins like we need to hear. Big love from Sweden
Thankyou for making good before u buy vids. Your whole channel is legendary
Are you planning to get it? I was in between before, I think I may do it now though
@@cartermelon I am, even booked the day off work.
@@buikid5164 nice! Hope you have fun man! I played for an hour today, it was a blast!
I've played about 20 hours of this so far & absolutely love it. I generally like survival crafting games & am really into weird scifi stuff, so this game was right up my alley
I pre-ordered the game at gamestop when i saw the video without much information. I'm glad I did.
Love to see games like this. Will definitely try it someday.
I remember thinking this looked really interesting when it got announced a while ago
Thank you so much for this video
After watching this I was set on playing the game, and over the course of this week I put 40 hours in and beat the story, and it was incredibly satisfying and challenging the whole way through!
Excited for the FPS episode and Jake and Ralph chatting about this one
Jake seems pretty excited about this game. I'm glad I wasn't taking a drink every time he said "also". 😜
I lived on the Olympic Peninsula in the 1990s, so I can't wait to see what this looks like.
I'm excited to see this game discussed on the Friends Per Second Podcast!
I love watching these mostly because I like knowing what games to recommend to specific friends. Shout out to David who I will recommend this to.
LOL I love the fact that you had everything together, pretty clean car, at the final video clip there and then BAM you didn't see a line of tourists and two of your panels just blew off the car lol
Man this is a breath of fresh air, I'm getting Outer Wilds vibes from this one, I can't wait to try it out.
Another thing to note about quirks is that you get upgrades early and later that help you diagnose them. (They become the main use of one of the early game recourses after you've used it to unlock everything else)
Played the demo and loved it..can't wait to buy today and play it fully
played the domo a while ago, can't wait to play this game, it got me hooked right away
Can't believe this game drops tomorrow, I loved the demo so much.
Ugh so much to upgrade, research, repair and build. Oh I’m hooked. Totally getting my hands on this!
I think the quirks mechanic makes way more sense when something obvious happens. Like When switching to Park The Front Right Door Opens.
I think one thing that might have given the game a little more spark is to have a little selction of cars at the start like test drive but you can only choose one for the game. The others would be scattered in the area and we could salvage them for parts. I will get this game over the weekend.
I'm so glad you emphasized how challenging the game is. I played the demo and didn't make it to the first skybeam in time. It was devastating.
Back to back before you buys 🤯 ❤
I made it to the four minute mark of the video, and I already know I want it. So I’m going to stop watching this video lol. Another fantastic video Jake!!
I don’t know what I love more. The straight up gameplay or the first impression of the latest games releasing
