Such an enthusiastic, engaged guy. These rundowns are getting better and better as the artists understand how to discuss their gear in a detailed, personal way like here.
All these companies collecting mounds of data on me and none of them has the decency to let me know my favorite musician has done a rig rundown. Pathetic
fiendskull9 if you treat it as your only channel you can get a tone from it, it just sucks when referenced to the clean channel cause they don’t match at all but I’ve used the gain channel with just a little gain to have that slightly broken up tone straight from the amp as a foundation
I love the Gain1 channel on my DRDV (412). Gain normally set about 3-4, gives a perfect classic rock tone with my Telecaster. Very rarely rely on my pedals now for dirt.
I have the new Jazzmaster with the Mustang bridge. It was too wide for the fingerboard. The high and low e strings came way too close to the edge as you went up the neck. I immediately changed it out for a Mastery bridge. Not only was it the proper size, the sustain is improved and it stays in tune unbelievably. Changed out the vibrato unit as well to Mastery.
Yeah, there's still some problems that Fender should permanently address.Like the TOM on the Mascis model, - the wrong radius for the fretboards, thus issues with the two E's.
Damn I've been wondering about that... sometimes I'm playing and I feel like I'll accidentally roll the high E off the neck or that it's hard to grab. Maybe I'll have to try the mastery bridge.
Josiah Burnette yeah I hear a lot of Mississippi John hurt now that you mention it. Haven't listen to john Fahey in a while but I'll have to research the other two.
@@josiahburnette9202 Has Shakey mentioned drawing inspiration from John Fahey? That would blow my mind. I just got into Fahey not long ago, after being a Shakey fan for years.
Chaz Michael one thing he is a master of is dynamics. His shifting from softly picked notes to loud staccatos sometimes in the middle of a measure is so cool. His first audiotree performance where he does roll the bones is a great example. It really gives his music a sporadic, frantic and chaotic feeling
Nice run down! One piece of gear - the kick drum - looked real interesting. To my ears it is a significant part of the Shakey Grave sound on his recordings. Maybe we can have a follow up in the future?
Walrus and EQD dominate my pedal boards.Throw in some fuzz by Ramble FX and Blackout Effectors, some drive by Hudson ,and you've got the best available.
He refers to a "vaulted neck" when he plays the Washburn. I've not heard of this term before - and seems that Google has not either. Anyone know what this means?
the most i can think is he means a neck like a pole-vaulter? like at the apex of a pole-vaulter's... pole? it looks like a soft v style neck or a deep d style. seriously have no idea.
Sorry mate, I looked at the clip again, & realized,,, That what I thought was a red amp, is a suitcase drum, I might have to go back on the farm & shag sheep or have my eyes tested,,,,, Waddya reckon,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Gib
PG you guys should do nathan d. james in southern california he plays fingerpicking/slide americana roots-blues on his own custom build guitars he calls the washtar ! because the guitar is made from a washboard. also he plays a home built shovel guitar with slide and it is killer. he has been touring europe on & off recently. also uses a foot drum/cymbal to accompany himself solo.

the only person on earth to embrace the dreaded hot rod deville overdrive channel
thought i was the only one!

@@justingarcia7722 I agree, especially if you clean it up with your guitar a little or push it with another drive pedal
i was playing in death metal band on deville, just add some tubescreamer

How Shakey graves is not mentioned in the top guitar players of all time, I beyond me
That open-tuned ES-175/HR Deville combo sounds insane.
I love Shakes Graves! Well done getting this guy on here!
John Bohlinger owns the Rig Rundown! Bar none!
Thanks Premier Guitar for fulfilling my gear nerdery!!!
This guy knows how to play!
Love rig rundowns!! Feels like content for actual musicians and not middle aged collectors is a bit thin on the ground on RUclips these days..
i’ve been waiting for a rundown on shakey for so long!
"i don't even understand what the initial concept with the jazzmaster bridge was... ...I guess it's for jazz"
One of my favorite concerts
wsh you would have mentioned the integal part of his sound the drum setup
Just Great!!

That is one nice guitar, a friend of mine loves those models
I would love to understand more of the theory on his progression and playing style.
right!
Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Blake, Elizabeth Cotten, John Fahey

Very cool video, I love his tone! Beautiful guitar! Thank you
The fender custom shop has assessed the j bridge “issues”. It only comes with custom shop jags and jazzys though.

he doesnt use it a lot on his recordings as in his first second and third album and hidden albums, usually just his live shows and small recordings
Still, I would like to here more about it, being part of his gear.
When going through the peds, have the dude play them! He's right there with everything set up and we don't hear the pedals.
shakey`s got some nice gear!!
Ive got a 56' Epiphone Triumph that totally reminds me of this Gibson replica.....
They need to do reigwolf
nice guy... amazing band...
god I love Shakey
If you don't like shakey graves you're wrong
Great vid. But, what's under the black sheet?
I second the deli slicer. It’s a Hobart.
the last drummer that actually kept his shirt on for a gig

EQD is so good.
@@patricktracy1966 I'm addicted to EQD... their pedals are just a step above. The Westwood is my favorite drive pedal to date.
He's got that greased hair worn out end of tour look. Must be exhausted!
thats just the Coke taking effect

Lonny Handwork it’s a v shaped neck like the old parlour guitars from the thirties
Google Voluted.
Could have meant chambered
He means Vaulted like a vaulted ceiling
"My image consultant recommended I leave one strap unbuckled on my overalls."
thats the Lowell george way
Seriously, this guy looks like a gigantic dork. The balding, greasy hair does nothing to help deter that image.
Think about where his guitar strap is hanging.
Hell yeah
Anyone know what that green 3 way switcher is ? I couldn’t seem to find it online. Maybe I had the name wrong lol
Can't remember the model but it's made by Lehle
my wife took a class with his mom in austin
wow I'm never first! Thanks for the vid... great stuff as always
where's the Loar?
@14:09 That should be Satin finish.
I was waiting for some info' about the amp???????
You need info about the Hot Rod DeVille????

Gib Williamson Hahaha. Yes, I guess we all need more sleep and less RUclips
I would presume those ridges in the bridge are for string spacing.

@7:43 Or they tune to the piano that has never been tuned.
How have y'all never seen a strobe tuner before lol
This guy on the right looks like he googled "hip clothes".
It’s an ES-175 reissue... definitely not worth as much as the ones that were made in the 50’s
Boooo...wanted to see about the suitcase.
Jesus Christ let him speak. This guy seems sooo uncomfortable.
why does he look like jhon wick
I've got a Hot Rod DeVille that I haven't even plugged in for 5 years. Time to fire it up!
