I see a lot of people in these comments may be struggling with addiction. I would just like to remind you all, that If you truly are suffering from addiction. You need to reach out to someone. You’re too far gone, you will not “one day help yourself” you need to call your friend, priest, brother, cousin, mom, dad, uncle, co-worker, aunt, grandma, grandpa a random person at a church etc… let someone help you! That’s what you need, and I know you fear it!
Honestly that is NOT the way to approach people with addiction. You're making them feel so low, insecure, & meaningless by your CHOICE of WORDS. Have compassion, empathy for what their going through.
I’m sure you mean well, but most substance users just stop by themselves, without any rehab or AA. Matthew Perry is the exception - after reading his book it seemed like he would have been gone much sooner if he never got any treatment. But most people aren’t like him; the man got pancreatitis at age 30, which is unheard-of (it’s caused by excessive alcohol use).
In his book he also talks about how ridiculously handsome his father is….Matthew, did you not see how much you look like him? It makes me sad that he didn’t seem to know handsome and talented he was.
I liked the book, but it had a "woe is me, I'm a victim of being left alone" attitude. I don't think traveling as an unaccompanied minor is the route of his issues. But whatever. I've also started watching Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
@@chadhero37 That’s a very uncompassionate take. The book is about his mental health issues. So, YES, he will discuss his trauma. What else did you expect??
@ SA, Life was more than kind to him. Life was great to him, gave him every opportunity. He was the one who was not kind to himself and screwed everything up. Just over being an unaccompanied minor and his dad leaving him and his mom at the Canadian Niagara Falls border. Woopie. My parents did way worse to me, I'm 10 years older than Matthew and I'm still here. So are friends who went through way worse than Matthew. I guess I'm lucky I knew to quit drinking when I was 20. Also knew enough not to take drugs. It's a crying shame and such a waste and so sad that Matthew just threw his life away. I didn't watch Friends or follow Matthew Perry so this was all a shock. I didn't know he had these problems until after he died. There are these fake death RUclips channels that are always saying celebrities died when they didn't so the 1st 2 days when I kept seeing Matthew Perry died I didn't click on them thinking fake until I saw it on ABC. I obviously don't have cable. RUclips should get rid of those fake channels. I was shocked to find out it was true. Didn't expect that. It's weird how Jay was grilling Matthew on his personal life. You could tell Matthew was uncomfortable. Interestingly, a man holding out for the right woman is shamed as much as a woman holding out for the right man. Being single is seen as a disease and it's preposterous because so many married people are absolutely miserable.
He literally cheated on his gf/fiance of 2 years who thought they were getting married... and she only find out he was cheating when his Raya video talking to the 19 year old went viral. His book also shows that he really doesn't treat women well... at all. It's great he's honest about his story, but we can't pretend he treated women right or still does

This dude was making $1M an episode and nearly killed himself with addiction, that's really sad. Only 1% of SAG members earn a living from acting only, he hit the lottery and decided to do drugs like a maniac.

Hard agree. NBC ignored (and lost) a generation.

He was a kind man, but I think they overlooked a huge talent in David Letterman. Not totally sure why.
