i feel like holiday’s debut is pretty parallel to vladdy’s debut, no? top prospect, young, big leaguer’s son, never struggled through the minors, etc

Here's the thing with Holliday. The front office knew he wasn't ready for the big leagues, but they felt the pressure from the media and fans to call him up to avoid the service time manipulation criticism. Now they're getting ripped for calling him up too early. It was a lose, lose situation. Hopefully this will prevent people from questioning Mike Elias and the rest of the front office in the future. Let the people who have dedicated their lives to identifying talent and developing players do their jobs.

@@daltoncapps9630They care about the massive spike in viewership and interest in the team. You’re constantly selling the future. If I was the Orioles, I’d have brought him up 10-15 games before All Star break to set a reasonable expectation to ‘see MLB pitching’.

@@jeffrey.a.hanson They brought him up because he was annihilating AAA pitching. He doesn't really have anything left to learn from facing that level of competition. It is a lot like Cowser, and Westburg for us last year. they struggled for most of the time they spent in the bigs, but now that they have had the experience they are both absolutely destroying the ball, and are set to have All Star seasons. I can't even follow what you are complaining about anymore. first you said that they brought him up in response to the building pressure, and now you are saying they did it for the spike in interest, and viewership.

@@daltoncapps9630 Ownership 10000% cares about that stuff and so does Holliday. Calling him up when they did earned Holliday's camps respect by not manipulating the service time, even though that's not even close to being true. The kid was in high school less than 2 years go. He's not ready and Elias knew it. Just had to prove it to everybody so they'd shut up about it and quit being a distraction.

I honestly don't think fan opinions had anything to do with why they called him up.
He still needed time at 2B, and the early schedule was loaded with opposing lefty starters.
He was mashing in AAA, looking good at 2B, and they got through all the opposing lefties. That's all.

There was a point in Jeter's career where he was hitless through 32 at bats. There's no doubt it is concerning to be batting 0.033 with tons of strike outs to start your career, but it could be a perfect storm of adjusting and going through a slump at the same time. Both Hays and Urias were batting under 0.100 at the time they called up Holliday too, and Hays was an all star last year and a career average of like .258. Urias had a 7 game hit streak going until last night even with losing playing time to Holliday. Imo I'd give him around 30 more at bats. If he records more than 6 hits during that time, keep him up, otherwise send him down.

Why would someone "panic" over a baseball player? Panic: A sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions when there is no real danger or apparent cause.

Could the Rangers trade for Miller at the deadline? They’ve proven to be aggressive and have the farm system to make it happen. Package could even include a major league guy like Leody Taveras because the outfield is locked up with Langford, Carter, and Garcia.

Holliday will figure it out soon. It took Rutschman about 3 weeks to figure it out and he wasn't 20 when he debuted in 2022. Cowser was terrible when he was called up last season but look at him now. O's are 8-3 since Holliday was called up so it's not all on him.

I don’t know if he overmatched but he is pressing now. He n his head for sure. His swing so nice, they pitching him tough for sure. I think give him a few days off then give him another 25/30abs. I gotta think he will hit. He’s been on a bunch just missed plus I have seen at least 4 balls called strikes putting him in bad counts. Just saying. He can physically do it. I say 30 more abs. Then evaluate

Jackson Holliday - the Os put a ton of emphasis on defense and Holliday is performing at a very high level at 2B. Unless his defense slips, he will stay in the majors for another month at least. What are the alternatives? Send Holliday down when Hays comes back then 2B/3B 9th sport falls to Mateo/Urias - high level defense with no hitting vs RHP and very little chance production improves from that spot. Call up Mayo/Norby and send Holliday down, Westburg slides over to 2B for Mayo and now you have high potential for worse IF defense and another rookie trying to adjust to major league pitching. As an O's fan, I'm shocked people are jumping to conclusions after two weeks, national pundits and a large amount of the local fans. TWO WEEKS. The O's are killing right now, come talk to me after two months. Until then, I chalk this up to trolls and pundits drumming up a story that isn't there.

Jackson is not performing at a very high level at 2B. Looks awkward at times with a very average arm. His fielding skills are not rated high. It was his hitting. The facts are his strikeout rate is unprecedented.
