    1:13:10 As the chart notes, the Dodgers only had 2 pitchers who threw at least 100 innings. The teams that had 5 such pitchers are similarly a bit of a mish-mash (I don’t have Stathead, so I’m doing this manually): Orioles, Jays, Mariners, Rangers, Braves, Cubs, Cardinals, and Pirates. That’s only two playoff teams. Of course, the Mariners had 4 guys with 175+ IP, which is remarkable in today’s game.

  • @IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar
    @IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar День назад

    My fellow Mets fans are super-optimistic about next year, so naturally I’m going the other way. The Mets have a ton of holes to fill, with all their free agents. Their farm system has some position player depth, but lacks high-end talent (personally, I hope they can somehow trade for Garrett Crochet, or otherwise fill some of their needs via trade). Jose Iglesias is a free agent, had a career year, and will be 35. Mark Vientos was arguably the luckiest hitter in MLB, and I think he’s going to seriously regress: 28th percentile chase rate, 5th percentile whiff rate, 9th percentile SwStr%, 7th percentile Z-contact%, 14th percentile O-contact%), an absurdly high 30.3% HR/FB rate (99th percentile), and he massively overperformed his expected stats. The things that went wrong could easily get worse, as the OG position player core is getting older and might lose Alonso, but even if they do re-sign him, it’s possible that he really is declining. He was extremely passive this year, causing him to end up in defensive counts, but a couple of Baseball Prospectus guys were arguing recently that Pete’s passivity was by design, because they think he can’t handle certain pitches anymore. I haven’t looked deeply enough to see if it’s real or just noise, but they could be right. It’s unfair to expect Lindor to put up another 7-8 WAR season. His expected stats were even better than his actual stats, but it’s hard for me to imagine him getting better at age 31. I still think Soto stays with the Yankees, which would be fine, but the free agent market falls off a cliff after him. And I’m worried about how well a megadeal for a Burnes, Fried, etc. would age. Long story short, I could see them barely being a .500 team next year, maybe even worse.

      @ OK, I have to assume you’re joking, because that’s just about the laziest response possible, and nobody could possibly be that irony deficient (could they?). Anyway, as I implied in my first sentence, I deliberately gave a pessimistic view, as a counterbalance to overly exuberant fans with short memories. I did the same thing before the 2023 season, and I turned out to be right. I’m not saying they’re going to suck next year; we’re months away from knowing how the offseason is going to go. Remember that the plan for 2024 was to build a team that could contend if a bunch of things broke right, which is what happened. However, the plan for 2025 to build a team that can contend _even if things go wrong._ See the difference?

    Rangers fan here. 35:36 is an awesome point. The Rangers also had really bad injury luck, but the difference was, the Braves had internal pieces rise to the occasion. That’s why we weren’t competitive and the Braves were. The Braves are just better at development and can survive when their stars go down.

  • @goadedbear
    @goadedbear День назад

    The problem with the Braves lack of depth going into the season is that they don't platoon and mix and match like other teams. When everyone can play everyone does play. Hard to convince someone to sign up to be the extra infielder on a team where play time only comes with injury. That is why they often rely on AAA/AAAA type guys with team control.

    By the way, a lot of Philly fans are not happy with Trea Turner for what he did this year due to his propensity to swing for the fences instead of having smart at bats. He had good stretches but didn’t do much to earn Philly fans’ love down the stretch and in the playoffs

    This year the Seattle Mariners posted a team wRC+ of 104, including a league-leading wRC+ of 118 after August 15. After August 15, Alex Bohm posted a wRC+ of 50. Logan Gilbert has three years of team control, George Kirby four years and Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo five years each. Luis Castillo is under contract for three more years with a vesting option for a fourth year.

    If u dont watch every Angels game its hard too see the progress that was made. Neto and Schanuel both started off super cold and were border line about to be demoted to the Minors after the first two months until they picked it up. O'hoppe was going great but Thaiss was so bad they had O'Hoppe catching every game and his legs eventually gave out at the end and it tanked his numbers Ward and Rengifo were fine, although Rengifo got injured and missed like 25% of the season. The bullpen was also horrendous to start the season but we called up a few guys and made some moves and the bullpen went from one of the worst to 16th in the majors, If u check our stats from the 2nd half the Angels had one of the better bullpens in the league. Jo Adell also changed his batting stance / swing and he completely turned his season around. He was borderline dogshit, but that tweak improved his stats on the season and he would have likely been above 100 OPS+ at the end of the season if he had stayed healthy. The Angels changed Netos swing the same way mid- season and he became who he is now, so there is optimism for Adell. Gold Glove defense and above average hitter from RF isn't the best but if that's your only "hole" offensively that's okay. You can always upgrade at the deadline if needed. Alot of the Angels struggle this year came in the beginning and things started getting better as the season progressed. All the young guys showed improvement in that sense. Offensively the Angels needs one more piece in the infield like a Brandon Lowe/ Alex Bohm type to complete the offense. Adell will be the outlier in the OF and if the Angels are competitive he will likely be out of a job by the deadline if not he will continue to get playing time and show what he can do The Angels need a good INF to complete the offense side of things. 2 frontline starting pitchers ( they will likely get 1) 2 high-end relievers. The Angels aren't as far away from competing as people think we just need the right moves. If the Angels get a Fried type and trade for Brandon Lowe they can do some damage in the AL west forsure.

    Mariners really need to think about bringing in the fences a bit. If I’m not mistaken they have a park factor that is almost like Coors but for pitchers. KC did that and look at what it did for them to a degree. They raked at home

    • @keithconnell8460
      @keithconnell8460 3 дня назад

      Yeah a park factor that includes not being able to see the ball there. A number of hitters have stated they just can't see the ball in that stadium. It's apparently a hitter's nightmare. No wonder the pitching is so good.

    Lifelong Halo Honk. Do you think the Angels have ANY path next year? Ward is as good as gone right? They need to get something back from him, he has already peaked and is on the wrong side of 30. Are they in contention to get any pitching? Fried(Darnau'd's Butt buddy)/Snell? Also, are they sold on Schanuel? I personally am not, and IDK any team that has won anything with a 1B hitting 15 home runs.

  • @owen______

    Why do people keep saying the Mariner's offense was below average? They had a 103 OPS+. Also, the pitching staff, while impressive in consistency, only had a 106 ERA+.

      Too feast or famine IMO. 27% strikeout rate as a team, second lowest batting average. I know those are surface level stats, but probably contributed to the fact that they were 21st in runs scored and wOBA. The A's had a 101 wRC+ and while they were fun, I don't think anyone is calling that 2024 offense good relative to the rest of the league. - Aram

    • @owen______
      @owen______ 2 дня назад

      @JustBaseballFans I appreciate the comment. But I don't think you can talk about the Mariner's without using park adjustments. The reason they were bottom 10 in wOBA and runs is the same reason they were top 5 in ERA and pitching. Park factors show that they were about as good at hitting as they were at pitching.

    The Dodgers have proven the best (talented) teams don’t always win the WS. They have been a multiple 100+ games winning team for years, often with the best record in all of baseball. This season was one of the worst season I’ve seen them play, relative to previous seasons due to all the injuries. This year they were the grittier version of themselves, repeatedly tested by hardship and that helped them win it all.

    The Minnesota Twins had a very weird season and were great for stretches and the worst team in baseball for stretches. They were unwatchable in September blowing their playoff and division chances. But firing their hitting coach and the cheap pohlads putting the team up for sale gives us hope for next season. The pieces to be great are still all on this roster, and after an amazing 2023 and breaking the playoff losing streak this year’s expectations were sky high and they underperformed mightily. Whether it was health or bad performance no excuses. That is a D season in my book. Also when Royce Lewis hit all of those grand slams it was the 2023 season not 2024.

    don’t love to say this about a team but the twins this year seemed incredibly mentally weak. when the team was heathy and hitting their stride, their offense in particular was unrelenting, but when things got tough, a few key contributors were out, they were incredibly unclutch with the bats, unclutch when it came to stranding runners, unclutch with their defense, etc. and by the time of their collapse, those guys looked checked out even with a season in the balance.

  • @serwall4700
    @serwall4700 6 дней назад

    I think there are two stats that truly described the Minnesota Twins of 2024 (aside from the offensive fall-off of the 2nd half). For one, there was a distinct lack of "clutch" in the offense this year, especially relative to the rest of the AL Central. The Twins batting with RISP wasn't fully atrocious but it was enough to hurt, I think they ranked around 18th with RISP while the rest of the division that wasn't the White Sox were in the top 10 for OPS with RISP. The second stat that really destroyed the season is the Twins inability to keep runners from scoring when they got on base. I can't find the exact stat rn but I believe that the Twins had a ridiculous year when it came to LOB% and allowing inherited runners to score all the damn time. If a Twins starter came out of a game with even just 1 runner on base, that runner was almost guaranteed to score. Also there was just a weird differential between a lot of the Twins pitcher's FIP and ERA which can be somewhat be explained by this phenemon where Twins pitching was simply as unclutch as the offense.

    I just can’t see Soto going back to the Yankees. They got stomped in the WS with Soto, and if they bring him back for 45mil/yr they still need to add a 3B, OF, 1B and several high leverage RP and maybe also a catcher. They would have to spend an extra $50 mil/year just to get them back to “stompable by the dodgers” level. It just doesn’t make sense. For soto’s AAV they could add high end options at 1B OF and 3B- I see them going that route. It’s not that they can’t afford Soto, they can, it’s that Soto would hamstring them elsewhere.

    We'll know in a few short weeks whether or not this new O's ownership is serious about winning. If there was ever a time for any team to spend real money it's this Orioles team. Loaded with promising young talent, a miniscule payroll and 100+ win potential. They could resign Burnes, bring Tanner Scott back and add an impact bat and still be below a league average payroll. This ownership group is worth over $120 billion. There's no excuse not to go for it.

Biggest hurdle truly is acquiring pitching and adding offensive pieces is sorta a bonus. The only concern w offense I personally have is in terms of right bats. I know it's lookin like we aren't brining back O'Neill on that team option so it's a matter of working a deal w him and by some miracle snagging Teo from the Dodgers.

      We have the opportunity to easily be top 5 contender considering we have the prospects and money to spend, let’s say we sign 2 top FA pitchers, then we trade for Crochett now we have a top 3 rotation. We trade for helsly or Williams who are both made available, now the pen is improved. Sign Teo or a Christian Walker, then call up players from The Big four we have ourselves a team

      @@marcushee3006 i think the biggest needs really are surrounding pitching (imo the desire for right bats is more of a luxury that is an added bonus for our current offense). Everyone is "technically" in the bid for Roki Sasaki due to posting rules but I'm also really keen on trying to get say Fried and Snell with regard to the starting rotation. For relievers you're absolutely on the money w us tryna acquire Helsley or Williams as it fills the void Kenly is leaving. All we can do is hope this off season is the one where the buying commences

      @ 100% my ideal thinking is we can sign a burner and a fried if we don’t sign Soto, thus giving us an insane rotation of Burnes,Crochett (trade), Fried, Houck, Bello/Giolito

      @ Burnes would be such a solid pickup and is probably cheaper. I only said Snell because I really enjoy his pitching (at least, when he has it which based on his 2nd half, still does) and that's not considering how much Boras is hoping to fetch which I assume is something absurd.

    “Dodgers win this game 5-0 without Phtani in the lineup at all” what a stupid counter statement to Joe Davis and your racism shows. Looking at whole season without Ohtani LAD is not even NLCS.
