One of the best opera performances I ever attended (don´t go anymore to opera houses because the composer/singers are now secondary to the freaky director) was Der Freischutz at the ROH conducted by Colin Davis. Never to be forgotten, absolutely stunning.

I first saw Sir Davis' picture years ago in "The Great Conductors" [Schonberg; Simon & Schuster,1976] and never saw him conduct until you posted "For Unto Us A Child Is Born" on this Channel. I was unaware that he had stepped into eternity until today. Thank you for sharing a portion of his life with us- and living in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA- it means even more than one may imagine! These singers have a funny way to say the names of the characters!
When it comes to Opera, I noticed that singers sing opera not only in English but in Italian French and German which are the three foreign languages that most opera singers singing

@@LondonSymphonyOrchestra when you guys do operas?, How do the London symphony orchestra and chorus get on stage as opposed to the orchestra sitting in the pit?
@@shailenabrams373 we don't ever do operas with full staging (i.e. with full acting and sets), so it's fine to not be in a pit. We call these "concert performances" or "semi-staged" if there's a little bit of movement, for example when the singers come on and off.
Is this complete performance available on DVD? I can only find the CD listed on Amazon.
I would even bring operas backsome composers like casa Verdi and Wagner speaking of vagner vagner Hoppers a super super big that takes not just one night not tonight but at least four to six nightsto perform on top of that my question to you is when is your next opera or oratorio?if it was a Whopper setup I would put the orchestra in the middle to quest in the back in The soloist Opera soloist especially singers they would definitely have to be in the frontlaborers the flight suits is another one of is one of those operas that I would definitely fall in love with.so I say all that to say this besides the symphony besides the ballet besides the cool stuff I love the Opera as well, just to make it easier I would how to use the chorus on stage matter fact the whole orchestra the Opera soloist and the chorus would all be on stage as opposed to the course being behind the stage or wherever they are you have no idea where were they actually are song verses on sage in the orchestra big would be in the pit I will do everybody on say just like you guys did itlike, when I seen berlioz the damnation of Faust. Is what you guys did which you put you pretty much put everybody on the stage that's what I would definitely have to do there would be no choice not I'm not saying it because I'm just forcing I was just do it to make it easier that way we don't have to change the setup I was just keep it the same so no matter what the circumstance no matter what the situation at the end of the day the setup would definitely be the same., Cost Wise guys to the left I'm sorrycourse Wise guys on the right gentleman on the guys on the White ladie chorus Wise guys on the right ladies on the left dress code wise sometimes I would do all black but other times I would go ahead and do black and whitefor the men instead of the usual tell tuxes I would go ahead and do regular tuxedos or sometimes regular suits but for definitely but definitely for fancy concerts tuxedos but especially 3-piece tuxedos definitely for the course is well. But for the ladies I don't actually don't care what they wear as long as it's appropriate 😉 as opposed to an appropriate to the dress code they can wear all black
Very much miss Colin Davis with the L.S.O. The present incumbent is not, IMO, in the same league. (nothing personal against him, I`m speaking purely on a performance level)
