Highly recommend the show, I have yet to watch a review on youtube that didn't give the show a great rating, or a masterpiece rating.
An interesting detail in this series is the shape of the characters eyes. More innocent characters have wide eyes while less moral or more devious characters have smaller and sharper angles to their eyes. Note that Light already has smaller eyes at the end of this episode and whenever he is writing names than he did last episode.

He wanted some sort of mission that he considered worthy and difficult enough to be interesting. And that is precisely what fell on his lap in episode 1. Now his mission is literally to turn the world into a utopia while trying not to get caught (by the police and L) by finding and killing the only person who might be able to catch him (who is also a genius whose sole objective is to catch Kira).

1:43 If you're in Light position you will be bored too because you always study and study to be a great student. This is reality in Japan. The students are like robot. They study so hard and repeat the same things everyday. The entertainment are just a temporary happiness they use to escape the reality. That's they have idol(you know what I mean)
1:43 "don't you have anything to do" well for some people the idea that the world is going to be nearly the same after their death as it was at their birth, sounds very unappealing...(I for example was worried that nothing big is going to happen in the world during my life here, but now we have Corona virus that is going to shake things up a bit) Also he is extremely intelligent, and he finishes tasks very easily, so jobs and work as a whole isn't going to preoccupie him as much as it would us. We also know that intelligent people see world from a bit higher perspective than what would be considered normal, so typical stuff like playing games and traveling the world would seem as a waste of life time, when bigger things are at stake, also in principle it wouldn't be as appealing anyway.
Yeah, I can say it right now. There are no heroes in this story. Light and L both have their own ideals but in the end they're just a pair of egos who will do anything to get their way. So stop looking for any moral centre in this series. Its an anime that wants the viewer to come up with their own answears as to what's wrong and what's right.
Keep in mind L is operating under the legal structure. What light is doing is acting upon his own sense of justice committing acts of first degree murder (I believe) and whether you agree or not, there are places in the world where capital punishment for those who murder is legal including here in the United States. So L's remark about sentencing Light to death is based on the crimes vs punishment based and attributed by law.
I've seen this while series a couple of times but just thought of something in this episode. The people online started calling him Kira, from the Japanese for "killer". But the people online don't know he's in Japan, is it just a coincidence that they picked a Japanese word?
If you want to hear the theme song in English (so you know what is being said), watch this. It gives you an idea of Light mindset as a villain protagonist. Heck, do a reaction of it if you can! ruclips.net/video/2RBazTfpybw/видео.html Also I see L as the heroic antagonist and Ryuk is the audience who wants entertainment. Remember without “interesting humans”, he will just become bored again.
"Death Note is our first dark anime." I'd love for them to watch more mature animes and see their reactions towards it. Again harping on Elfen Lied but Samurai X; Trust and Betrayal would be a great mature anime to watch and I'd love to see Kacee's reaction to the story.
It's a double protagonist. I've seen it somewhere, where they reference deathnote as a double protagonist anime. Edit. Also right and wrong is relative. A lot of people don't accept that.
The protagonist is LIGHT. It does not matter good or bad there are arguments for both. This anime follows Light it's upto the readers/watchers to decide whose philosophy is correct
The whole point of Death Note is to open the debate on what is right and wrong, who is the hero and who is the villain, which side would you choose, is Light really mistaken in his view of the world (after all, it is very rotten indeed) what would you do if you were Light, is L really the hero, he is just doing the 1% bidding and keeping the rich, corrupt minority in power? Death Note is not your usual anime, it's a lesson in life and philosophy.
The concept of protagonist isn't about a good or bad lmaooo. The protagonist works toward the central story goals, while the antagonist works against the goals.
Like I said Light Yagami is like Dexter Morgan. Both serial killers who only kill bad people. And even though they're killing bad people, they're both still crazy and serial killers.
Enjoying these reactions so far! Code Geass and Assassination Classroom are a few more amazing anime, if you plan on reacting to more series in the future. The dubs for both of those are pretty great too.
Shinigami are basically a the japanese version of the grim reapers. Shinigami "god of death, death bringer, reaper". In Bleach they translate it to soul reaper. Ps. Dont watch Bleach.
Light killed hundreds of people so from my perspective at least I don't think it's unreasonable for L to want to sentence Light to death. To see their goals as comparable isn't really fair.
eh, L doesn't really care about Justice, all that matters is solving the case. He'll do things within the law as much as possible, but won't hesitate to break the law or even sacrifice innocents if he must to achieve his goals. The only difference between him and light is that L works up to the more extreme options, while Light just goes for the most extreme option he can get away with.

L mentioned killing Kira because it is a crime that will probably result in a death sentence after being legally judged.
Never thought to see you people react to this interesting
Another amazing reaction 😍
Protagonist doesn't need to be a pure light hearted good guys
The protagonist in this show is whoever you side with, imo.
"Death Note is our first dark anime." I'd love for them to watch more mature animes and see their reactions towards it. Again harping on Elfen Lied but Samurai X; Trust and Betrayal would be a great mature anime to watch and I'd love to see Kacee's reaction to the story.
Claymore, Berserk, Cowboy Bebop, Gungrave, and others. Trust and betrayal is great, but it is better with the context of the Anime imo.
@@knightheaven8992 Why? Trust and Betrayal is before the anime anyway.
Shinsekai Yori.
Someone has to be the herald of true justice. In my POV light is a hero. Yes he has ti get hands dirty but it's for the good of the world.
Ryuk did say the shimigami world was boring, I would see why he is enjoying this.
Sooooo iNteReStING.. 👹🍎
Them not being acclimated to anime is going to confuse the hell out of them during the potato chip scene 😂
LOVE THESE KEEP EM COMIN
The battle of egos begin
Well when you're a serial killer most people get sentenced to death. So thats the justice.
*flies* I'm here, I'M HERE. OUO
this show makes you question whats good and whats bad and where we draw the line.
Death Note, a thought experiment on what happens when a person finds themselves with the ability to “play God.”
With anime, get ready for your definition of the word protagonist to be completely shattered, mixed up, turned around, and rebuilt.
The concept of protagonist isn't about a good or bad lmaooo. The protagonist works toward the central story goals, while the antagonist works against the goals.
Cowboy Bebop should be your next anime after death note. It's one of the best of all time. And has a live action show being made by Netflix.
And there is me who watched all reaction for watching whole anime 😂
I mean light is a mass murderer hence why L wants to capture him and give him the death penalty..
Here we go the beginning of the suspense I hope you're ready for hey intense game of cat-and-mouse
Like I said Light Yagami is like Dexter Morgan. Both serial killers who only kill bad people. And even though they're killing bad people, they're both still crazy and serial killers.
Dexter kept a moral code for the most part and wasn’t egotistical like Light.
L my favorite character in Death Note
The darkest possible anime is Boku no pico. Watching that will have you questioning reality and the concept of god.
So begins the epic cat and mouse game.
Enjoying these reactions so far! Code Geass and Assassination Classroom are a few more amazing anime, if you plan on reacting to more series in the future. The dubs for both of those are pretty great too.
It is completely subjective who you think is good or bad so you can't say that either one are objectively good or bad
You should see Death parade next in the future!
You have to give it a chance in japanese. The voices feels so good!
Ah yes, where ppl get hooked into the show
You wil witness two smart person outsmarting eachother. But to be honest my favorite character is definetly L.
do you upload deathnote reaction everyday? i really like this anime. nice reaction. enjoy :)
'The darkest anime we've seen so far'... so you haven't seen Attack on Titan.
And you haven't seen berserk
So you haven't read berserk
Light is the main character and is a hero or villan depending on your view. I think Light is a hero and L is the villan
Shinigami are basically a the japanese version of the grim reapers. Shinigami "god of death, death bringer, reaper". In Bleach they translate it to soul reaper.
Ps. Dont watch Bleach.
So, now the question becomes, team light, or team L?
No kill, no justice... its obvious haha
People in this show play 8D chess but irl
Light killed hundreds of people so from my perspective at least I don't think it's unreasonable for L to want to sentence Light to death. To see their goals as comparable isn't really fair.
eh, L doesn't really care about Justice, all that matters is solving the case. He'll do things within the law as much as possible, but won't hesitate to break the law or even sacrifice innocents if he must to achieve his goals.
The only difference between him and light is that L works up to the more extreme options, while Light just goes for the most extreme option he can get away with.
You guys should also check out Attack on Titan! That show is amazing and they just released that the 4th season will be the last season.
