I agree. There is a point where the instrument is truely mastered. Clearly both these guys are masters. They have the gift and have put in the time. How would I compare them? Either one of these guys could replicate the others style, guaranteed. You have to remember, speed and feel are trade offs. At this level of play, its simply a matter of musicians choice. They are certainly equals, and in my forty plus years playing, I haven't seen many better. I love their work...
I listen to nearly all of these videos of alex like 2-3 times a day, this guys improvising ridiculously is addictive, just imagine what his album will be like. /jizz, if you wondered :)

Been around through all the great early legend players years. Alex has a nasty rapier delivery that needs to be heard ... say, at Crossroads if not Monterrey..That jazz-blues style is yummy.
When playing guitar my aim is to play the sound in my head, i can't quite do it easily yet... but the thing is, this guy's playing is better than the sound in my head, it blows my mind how good this guy is, in ear and technique!
@GodsAthiest An entire tune doesn't need to singable his melody is definitely memorable. He uses a variety of motif's that he goes back to through out the whole tune and he pieces them together very nicely.
when he pulls those faces its like he's agreeing with what his hands are doing XD like when he does one of those sick bends at 0:42 he pulls a face as if to say "nice job hands".
@a1gold174 Let me just clarify, i may not know all about it, cuz im still studying my music degree, but there is more than one mode yes? and the Ionian (major - I) is also the aeolian (minor - vi) and therefore they are the same, which means saying that the minor mode is the major mode is correct. Regardless of what scale they are in, he is still using chromatic tones. The notes ARE unusual as they would not be used in conventional popular music. I may not know it all, but im no fool.
