It's funny how he is talking smack against the Chinese ones because the Comet is made in the "good ol' USA." I could buy 3 Chinese torque converters than one Comet. They're almost identical.
Don't get me wrong, but I Like America. I used to work at a go-kart track and we used to buy American gearboxes (for Karts with four clutches like a motor cycles and one drive gear joined buy a chain). The first thing we did was throw away the chain and modify the clutch basket so they'd last more than two laps. We also had an American Hoist that lasted about a week before the hydraulics died. So just because its American don't mean jack. At 14mins sliding those bushes in the clutch up and down is deceiving as they don't slide anywhere near that much when running.
We deal with a lot of performance here and there is most definitely a difference in quality , longevity, and performance . I see you also compared the quality of a predator and a Honda gx200 . If you don’t see the difference there your not much of an engine builder either . Night and day difference from the crankshaft to the castings lol

The Chinese torque converter is better its cheaper and that means you can use the savings to buy a Juggernaut that would put the total cost at $174 and it would not only be cheaper than a comet but better. people think that just because they can put made in USA that they can slap a 100% markup on an item and everyone would still buy it

Only thing i dislike about these units is the don't offer it in motorcycle compatible setup for repower applications so they bolt to any small engine like a predator 420cc engine and hook up and work with the motorcycle stock rear sprocket and chain and chain alignment.
This guy in the store up the road used to say the same thing about the ballasts from the chinese because he could not sell his for 300 more than the chinese ones. And he was always saying i offer a warranty and people are asking me to fix their cheap ones. I just laugh at him and he sold his business because all he was doing was ordering from a magazine and putting the price on there they tell him to put on. What happened to someone actually running a business not a mary k from a store front that is the difference. Alot of business owners are lazy and they go under because of that. Bottom line.
Yeah, a lot of the local business owners telling everyone to "buy local" is buying their crap from china too. They're just mad they can't take advantage of us.
I think what the "jUsT As GoOd" crowd is missing is that it really depends on your engine. My Chinese driven pulley worked fine for my stock engine. However, after swapping for a built Tilly (probably pushing close to 15HP) the stock driven failed. It developed excessive play, and would immediately downshift after I came off the throttle. With my low gearing, this made the bike aggressively engine brake, which was terrifying and difficult to control. Yesterday I swapped on a genuine driven from Studz and it was night-and-day. The bike pulls better and actually coasts when I let off the throttle now. If I hadn't already upgraded to a juggernaut, I would probably go with a genuine comet pulley for my driver pulley as well.

I've got a question. Why are these so expensive? I bought a 301cc motor for 260, I went to buy a torque converter and it cost me just as much.. I'm sure there are less parts and less work that goes into them, so why are they so fcking expensive?!
ryeguy54 the engine you bought I’m sure is Chinese . Find a quality Honda engine and you’ll see its 500-700 dollars . Same thing here . Comet is made in the usa . It’s been around since the early 70s . They have been that price for at least 10 years . You get what you pay for
I bought my 420cc predator engine 317 with tax and 40 series torque converter kit for 232 off Amazon 218 before tax from All-Terain but that's a 1" bore kit. There's no difference between usa or china it's all based on your maintenance don't fall for these guys at gopowerusports they are way over priced and rude as f on the phone. Look how they say buy a honda hmmmm it's china motor to the predator engine is the Honda clone for good budget.
Erick Casillas they call them a torque converter, a thing in automatic transmissions in cars that works like a clutch, but is VERY different inside, but the torque converter acts as a CVT, I also wondered about that too. You can google a torque converter cutaway to see what it looks like, it uses the transmission oil to work, it’s kind of like having one fan on and putting one in front, which then gets turned by the air from the fan behind it.
Jam on the gas get it moving. Don't give the belt a chance slip. If you slip the belt on take off you'll be buying new belts regularly. My kids kept burning up belts on a go-cart until I taught them this.
What is the price difference between the 2 ?for a 1 inch shaft on the engine and the smaller one ?? i am curious too read it! where can we go to see the american made kit. thanks Gervais
I actually like the Chinese tav2. It works great. It's the Chinese 40 series that really sucks. I've had to buy real comet stuff after the Chinese stuff doesn't handle any power or function correctly.
Captainkleen you definitely get what you pay for . Most people get it with these torque converters . We can’t even keep them in stock . If you just using it in the backyard Chinese one will work . Comet has been back in business and they are rocking that’s for sure
Well one thing I can say for sure is the Comet belts are definitely hands down 110% better than Chinese CTV aftermarket belts that wear out very quickly. You are right I just build small engines as a hobby and don’t have much time to play around with CTV’s I’m old school and like a good clutch but if I was using a CTV I would use the Comet belt people tell me their on their 4th belt on the Chinese knockoffs but I’d imagine they would go a lot longer on a Comet belt. Like I said I wouldn’t pay 200 for a CVT unless I had it on an engine I built that I would keep but I still like a good strong clutch that’s just me and I don’t even own a CVT.

DUDE !, Don't call those things "Clones" . Clones are exact duplicates made from the same DNA.. Those China product are " *imitations* " , or cheap copies.. Far from duplicates. I bought a China pocket bike for my kid, He didn't get 2 doors down the street before a front wheel bearing let go.. He was bummed out !.. I ran around to all the bearing stores and replaced it with a USA bearing.. The salesman compared USA and China bearing for Me.. NEVER AGAIN. !
ThomasTheSailor Chubby I got a used pocket bike/small motorcycle that had brake lights, horn, normal lights, electric start, turn signals, battery indicator, front and rear suspension, disc brakes that are strong enough to stop me very quickly once broken in, and a speedometer. The speedometer was half the speed it went and the electric starter that worked as a generator was EXTREMELY powerful, now it doesn’t run and I want to put in a 212 with a torque converter. The engine wouldn’t start after I crashed/ slid on the ground a few feet while running and a few seconds later it finally got turned off by me. The engine probably won’t start because the previous owner didn’t know what a two stroke was or I can’t get the right fuel oil ratio. I will get the knockoff since it’s cheaper and I won’t be putting much power to it(kid sized motorcycle.) The other things were perfectly fine even after months of being outside uncared for in the weather, every thing worked fine, the bearings were perfect, but the relay for the electric start probably rusted from the rain, but any relay would probably stop working after months outside in the weather not covered. I had removed the cover on the outside of the motorcycle, letting in all the water from the rain, I easily got around this with a screw, it had spark and compression, but the gas was probably messed up.
@@MrEricgnx Another problem with the Chinese clones is that when you order one you don't know whether you are getting a metric (16mm) or 5/8" driven shaft. The metric shafts have metric keys not a 3/16 key like the 5/8" shaft. This makes getting the correct sprocket not as easy as it should be when you want to change gearing. Do the Comets use a 5/8" driven shaft?

It's funny how he is talking smack against the Chinese ones because the Comet is made in the "good ol' USA." I could buy 3 Chinese torque converters than one Comet. They're almost identical.
And all 3 of them will not perform close .performance is not the same

Don't get me wrong, but I Like America. I used to work at a go-kart track and we used to buy American gearboxes (for Karts with four clutches like a motor cycles and one drive gear joined buy a chain). The first thing we did was throw away the chain and modify the clutch basket so they'd last more than two laps. We also had an American Hoist that lasted about a week before the hydraulics died. So just because its American don't mean jack. At 14mins sliding those bushes in the clutch up and down is deceiving as they don't slide anywhere near that much when running.
Whats the best torque converter set up you can buy for a 420cc predator on a manco xtk? The best for power and speed, again the best.

We deal with a lot of performance here and there is most definitely a difference in quality , longevity, and performance . I see you also compared the quality of a predator and a Honda gx200 . If you don’t see the difference there your not much of an engine builder either . Night and day difference from the crankshaft to the castings lol
I just ordered one. So I should be happy with the Chinese one?
@@MrEricgnx Yep. And I bet a lot of people commenting are noobs when it comes to all this and yet they think (actually feel) they know more than people who have been doing this for decades. The OP actually thinks that genuine OEM GX200 parts are in the 212's. lol.

For most of us backyardigans, the Chinese clone is gonna get the job done. Obviously people who are buying parts to put on a competitive kart or bike are gonna spend the money on the best, but for most of us, it's not nearly that serious.

The Chinese torque converter is better its cheaper and that means you can use the savings to buy a Juggernaut that would put the total cost at $174 and it would not only be cheaper than a comet but better. people think that just because they can put made in USA that they can slap a 100% markup on an item and everyone would still buy it

How can the “ bell ringing front clutch pulley be silenced somewhat?
Robin Russell replace it if it is worn
Only thing i dislike about these units is the don't offer it in motorcycle compatible setup for repower applications so they bolt to any small engine like a predator 420cc engine and hook up and work with the motorcycle stock rear sprocket and chain and chain alignment.
At 6:50 you said "it's Meteor", Comet, meteor, get it? OK Where can I get a Cat99 front clutch? I just got a new jack shaft Cat99 driven.

I believe comet stopped making them.
No not at all ! We are a comet dealer
I tried calling y'all about the lights setup, it was a quick vid. Well I called to try and order one for my minibike. Boy, I tell ya I have never been dealt with like that. Thank you for the vids but I will not do business like that.
Nestophallies , what happened when you called please explain . I was working today at the counter and never took a call regarding kit

I figured I called at a bad time so I let it go. We all have bad days, to that I completely understand. I have since embarked on recreating the lights package myself. Your video was spot on and I was highly interested in them. The gentleman in the video which I believe is the same in this video explained everything about the lights and $50 was the price to which I thought was very fair for the package. Said to call or come by. I live in Mobile Alabama. Being I'm from the Deep South I called. I would love to see a tutorial on how y'all put that together because again it is a jam up idea! Grasping at straws to show differences. This one is better since it is made in USA. PUHLEASE
Have you not ever heard of differences in metal alloys?
Look how they say buy a honda hmmmm it's china motor to the predator engine is the Honda clone for good budget.
isnt it a cvt not a torque converter?

I actually like the Chinese tav2. It works great. It's the Chinese 40 series that really sucks. I've had to buy real comet stuff after the Chinese stuff doesn't handle any power or function correctly.
What size bolt on the crank shaft cause they sent me the wrong bolt annd now i have to tap the bolt hole
Sam Phillips 5/16 24 is the most common size
It’s no wonder Comet went out of business! eBay 57. Comet 200. Really!!!!!!
I doubt it. I can tell lol

How bizarre you lump all none Comet ones into something you call "Chinese"
Not bizarre at all . If it’s not comet or gtc it is Chinese . There are several different Chinese qualities
Trev S haha
@@MrEricgnx Another problem with the Chinese clones is that when you order one you don't know whether you are getting a metric (16mm) or 5/8" driven shaft. The metric shafts have metric keys not a 3/16 key like the 5/8" shaft. This makes getting the correct sprocket not as easy as it should be when you want to change gearing. Do the Comets use a 5/8" driven shaft?
