    Watching the video gave me goosebumps all over my body. I was lucky to have witnessed that moment at the track, I was 10 years old, it was my first F1 race which I attended with my parents. We had weekend tickets at the Ford corner, I remember the cars exiting Ford curve and accelerating down to the Dunlop curve... the sound of the engines, it was the loudest thing I have ever heard in my life and I still remember it so clearly as if it was yesterday. The entire weekend had a very mystical flair, we slept in tents, it was rainy, 8 degrees celsius cold... I remember the moment at 0:57 when Alesi missed the breaking point and I could see Michael trying to get past him... unforgettable moments and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to be there.

    “This is great motor racing at the front, the like we haven’t seen for a long time”. - this is why I love f1, when you have a battle it’s epic, rather than 200 overtakes a race, we get zingers which have us on the edge of our seat. The lack of racing argument has been going on for over 23 years, and yet this is still the pinnacle of motorsport. Loving the new social media coverage from LM too! Keep up the good work guys.

    • @stefanpetrov8
      @stefanpetrov8 5 лет назад +2

      no one seems to remember is that a lot of the old races were actually not that dramatic. Yes there were amazing moments but compare the amount of overtakes to today and you'll see what I'm on about. Teams and drivers are down to a point today, they're closer than ever. It wasn't uncommon back then to see the first four cars lap the rest of the field at least once simply because of how much faster they were. Great when they'd go against each other, but not much mid field action. Nowadays we get exciting battles for pretty much every position, including second to last. So I feel DRS is great, and the new regulations will just make things that much more exciting. Even slower cars can now potentially draft behind faster ones and fight for higher positions.

    • @SocietyUnplugged
      @SocietyUnplugged 5 лет назад +2

      @@stefanpetrov8 Did you watch F1 recently? The "joke" that the Hulk is the 2019 champion is for a reason. There are 6 fast cars and way back (often more than a lap behind) there is a good battle in the midfield. Nothing has really changed, it's clear that Schumacher had troubles following a much slower Alesi but once he's in front he's pulling away. 23 years later nothing has changed.
      What I did like about the old days with 1 engine each weekend and refueling is that we saw drivers from start to finish go full throttle. Cars, engines or tires weren't nursed back then, just 1,5 hours at full speed. Today It's often an illusion that it was a close finish because when the leading car has an comfortable lead of 5 seconds it's a cruise to the finish line. The infamous crash between Ocon and Verstappen in Brazil showed how much the Red Bull was cruising, because with the same weight and same tires Ocon was more than a second per lap slower. F1 has become an reliability race. In other words I would rather see Lewis, Seb or Max win a race with an comfortable lead of 40 seconds and do Q3 laptimes during the race than a slowly cruise (train) to the finish line we'll see today.

    • @stefanpetrov8
      @stefanpetrov8 5 лет назад +2

      @@SocietyUnplugged you are correct about the tires and refuelling, I was simply stating that right now we see a lot more action from the midfield. Hell we live in a period where force india and toro rosso are often engaged in epic dogfights with the rest of the guys from williams and the like. Ten years ago force india were stone dead last. My point was that we see a lot more fights wheter it's between the first three teams erc, ferrari and rb), or the rest of the best. Imo, we live in a good era of F1 racing. People often have a way of praising the past and hating the present. Believe me, in a decade or so when F1 goes electric, and it will, this will be considered as the last "great" era of the "real F1".

    • @SocietyUnplugged
      @SocietyUnplugged 5 лет назад

      @@stefanpetrov8 I agree, midfield has never been more exited than now. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the old days were better like many long time F1 fans. But at the front row F1 has still a lot to improve, too many races were just a conga line to the finish. There are more overtakes, you're right about that, but sometimes it's more exciting to see 2 cars close together. 95% of all overtakes are too easy and a lot of them are not even aired. I'm really looking forward to next seasons with the new front wing for closer racing. That's what F1 really needs and that's something that hasn't been changed in the last 25 years.

Something also tells me you watched only a few races in the past that were recommended for you by some random armchair expert, these races werent ALWAYS fun, there was only a quarter of the overtakes that we had today, and the battles generally dragged on for too long to the point everyone got bored after seeing a car follow the other in unsuccessful maner since it cant overtake anyway, only the 4-6 cars in the front gave any battling and the rest could screw itself, F1 is as competitive as it can get now in all aspects, and every fight may it be between the leaders or the midfield and backmarkers is incredibly intense

      @mr.bernie6198 5 лет назад +7

      @@dotdot8614 Buddy I saw every F1 race from 1988 to 2017. In 2017 I started skipping races because since the hybrid era the top finishers are quite the same and I have to disagree on you in several aspects.
      1) Your example with the high low front wing nose. It is depending on how the car is concepted to gain full advantage of each car profile referring the nose. There is a reason why Mclaren skipped their high nose of 95 and 96 for a low nose up to 2008. I could explain it if you want but it would be a lot of text so I move on.
      2) The different car designs are great and even improve the level of competition. Sad enough that the aerodynamics are very restricted in their basics what leads to similar car designs with different flaps. Compare 90s or 2000s cars for instance how different they were and still fought very close! AMAZING
      3) In combination with that I prefer to see different concepts even in the engines like in 80s where a inline 4 cylinder BMW engine became champion against v6 turbos and even v8 turbos and natural aspired cars.
      4) Dirty air is a too big todax problem and I cannot understand why they didn't increased the mechanical grip more and less the aerodynamics in 2017... hopefully ground effect can change that for the future again and make drs unnecessary... for me indycar is more entertaining to watch.
      5) Today the whole midfield has as many points as Mercedes has together... the gap is too big and surprises are to rare... I remember to see Jordan fighting for wins with ferrari mclaren and Williams... and other teams were so close... only the small teams like Minardi tyrell and so on had problems but the midfield was sp close back then...
      6) But the quarter of overtakes made them special and more thrilling! Seeing somebody giving the other mentally a hard time and push him into a mistake or fight him for laps is what amazes real f1 fans and not push a button to pass...
      Quality over quantity
      Hope you get my point :)

      Prins van Oranje Of course that would be cool but nearly impossible with the current cars (including the 2019 spec). If we wouldn't have DRS then there would be next to no overtakes at all which would suck even more. Nonetheless the new DRS will be too OP and will make overtaking too easy.

    • @markhenley3097

      Smaller cars, less aero (but not like in 2009), simpler front wings, allowance of refueling and the re-introduction of ground effect could help the return of no DRS battles a lot more.

    • @stefanpetrov8
      @stefanpetrov8 5 лет назад +13

      @@HighFlyingOwlOfMinerva The thing that no one seems to remember is that a lot of the old races were actually not that dramatic.

    Ahhh back when the teams could use ANY engine they wanted aslong as it met displacement and fuel regulations. You had a mix of V8s, V10s and V12s on the track at the same time. These were the best regulations in recent history. A lot more innovation and uniqueness from car to car. And they all sounded wonderful. Unlike those god awful hybrid 6's they use now. PLEASE get back to using a proper engine in 2021.

      @robertomariani626 5 лет назад

      Not sure about that, but schumacher convinced several people from benetton to move to ferrari, so the car would've likely been more competitive than it was in those years, so would've at least been more of a challenge for williams in 1996, and perhaps won 1997.
