You seriously couldn’t have said it any better, I’m currently going through this in my life and it feels like I’m all alone since nobody understands your thoughts. It sometimes feels like you’re being cursed, I’m still recovering and hoping I’ll be able to overcome it one day or have much less thoughts.

So many direct parallels to your story. It's good to know that There are other people just as weird as us and there's beauty in that. When we notice we don't suffer alone. It allows us to use one another's experiences as stepping stones and ledges to climb up out of the abyss. It's not easy, but every day you make strides toward a healthier mind and a healthier you, you get a bit closer to the person you want to be.

It’s so interesting to hear other experiences. I’ve had such weird compulsions that have nothing to do with anything, yet felt the need to. Putting socks on, shoes, boxers, putting soap on my hands in the shower, brushing my beard, opening a lock on a locker, turning an Xbox on etc. numbers, phrases, good words to counter bad words (think of life to counter death, healthy to counter unhealthy etc) we are fully aware of what it is and how it doesn’t correlate between reality…but anxiety comes in to smash your stomach and heart lmao
I’ve been suffering from since I was able to remember, earliest memories. It’s gotten a lot. A LOT better these days, but sometimes it pops up. OCD and Anxiety helped a lot. Nathan is a saint. Anyways, hope you’re doing well❤️

Also, my childhood was absolutely insane. Truly, I’m not at all shocked my mental health was obliterated so young. However, sometimes we have the power to realize, living in fear isn’t living at all.

it helps knowing you're not alone. i've been dealing with ocd and anxiety for a while now, 2019 is when it took over my life.
a saying i like to use a lot is (when it happens i'll deal with it) for many of these thoughts, this one alone has helped me through alot.
relapses are a struggle for me and it always feels like i've lost all my progress when these happen.
watching videos of other people's journey helps me feel not alone and gives me motivation to keep doing therapy when times are rough

Yeeeeeeeeeee my beautiful weirdo sister. This video is awesome.
I'm so sorry you've had to navigate such distressing terrain within your mind. God damn our minds can get us into such tricky places...
I hope your video helps people see that they're not alone and that they're not broken. As you said, just as our brains were wired through early experience to cope in ways that may distress us, so too can we guide our brains gradually to heal, to experience ourselves and the world in new ways over time. We can heal. There is hope. But it takes time, effort and a bit of courage.
I hope your videos inspire even an ounce of self-compassion in those who see them. We're all struggling and we don't choose to suffer in the ways that we do. But we can choose to make small changes that move us towards a better place.
    Keep it up Alice

I read a book recently which was an amazing read in my opinion and really helped me understand OCD again for the first time in years from some with lived experience that wrote it (which is nice) and has deeper knowledge upon diving deeper into the misunderstood nature of OCD and also how to truly learn to overcome it.
It is called “The Joy Thief by Penny Moodie”.

@@alicemoyle yes! Having support is huge but also can be tricky as the person not suffering doesn't always know what to say lol. It's definitely a hobby of mine to collect them haha! I have been working pretty steady this week on no compulsions, some days are easier then others but it really is a game of re wiring the brain. OCD is not fun at all. The only thing that really helped keep it in check is to just accept that it might happen. It's not fun to leave the house and just have to accept that I might come back to find my house has burned down because I forgot to turn off the stove or that I'll be burglarized because I forgot to lock the door.
I'll kind of operate switches as slowly as possible in order to give ti time to register that I've turned off the switch.
It definitely isn't easy, but it beats having it spiral out of control the way that it otherwise does.

I wish my now separated wife after 25yrs could have challenged herself and reflected to know she couldn’t keep living life this way and have a healthy relationship because she always trying covertly control me and the marriage to ease her threat system. I never tried to shame her and am highly empathetic but does not give reason to stand in the way of what is best for the family. I live in full reality the goods and the bads and it is too much for any of my family except for my sons. They seem to appreciate it or at least respect it or me for it. Lot of hurt in life. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Have to pick one. I believe if you learn how to make a cake, eat it and you can bake another one……..life was meant to be lived. All of your thoughts are not you, just the ones you act upon. It’s what you do with your thoughts that creates actions and reactions. In the middle instead of extremes one side or the other or running back and forth from both ends. I have my own struggles even trying to be balanced in the middle before you might think I believe I’m some know it all. Just have been observing people from all walks of life since very young trying to figure out the truths of a well lived life so that I can die at peace with the journey I’ve finished. See many beautiful people ensnared in this fear and anxiety and trauma building their own little prison one brick in a wall at a time. The deceiver is real and there is a war to keep us from shining a light thru this fallen world. Sending my love to those challenged by this that you may have the courage to face it and believe it can be healed until can form healthy relationships with people who are healthy. We have to be able to come back together as communities around wholesome things that produce fruit for all . Not winners and losers. See the extremes.

If I'm watching a movie, that I've seen before, I sometimes feel like I need to pause the movie once and unpause before a certain scene comes up. Or if it's on tv and I can't pause, I feel like I have to touch my toe to the throw rug before it comes on... OR if I see a piece of paper on the ground outside, and I see it has text on in, I feel compelled to read the text

Ok, here goes. Weird story and it has absolutely nothing to do with the video. I was driving around town when the song "The Lotto" by one Ingrid Michaelson came on. Where I am from, Ingrid Michaelson is not well known but I remembered that I definitely heard the name somewhere. So after a few hours of work I got home and researched. When "The way I am" came up I suddenly remembered your name. Weirdest thing.... I actually watched your covers, I think, more than a decade ago thinking that what you are doing would be pretty cool for my daughter to do (she is 14 now). I might have actually commented on one or two of them with some encouraging words. Well, since I actually remembered your full name I was gonna watch those videos again. They are not there anymore but I found your new ones. Seems like you went through some stuff and I hope you are well. You and your covers appearantly stayed with me for over ten years and I hope it doesn't embarass you that I brought them up. Stay positive and, sincerely, have a nice life.
