I'm not sure if you saw my lengthy comment on episode 169 but as a recap, I had a right inguinal, femoral, and an obturator as well as an umbilical hernia. I have lost a lot of muscle over the last 3-4 months taking it easy but in no way am I frail or old.
I struggle with recovery instructions being so vague and not tailored to women. I was told not to bend for over two weeks. I went as far as to inquire about possible physical therapy and it was dismissed as unnecessary.
The obturator hernia was fortunate/unfortunate to be covered by the same mesh used on the femoral/inguinal hernia(Bard 3D large pore mesh) . Will I expect problems? I have felt the small bulge in the same place, however I assume after a femoral and inguinal repair with the addition of this obturator, swelling will come and go, yet I am worried about what pains are healing/normal and what I should be aware of. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! #HerniaDocRocks
I am curious, after surgery how many follow up visits are there normally (for both the obturator, and the other types?) What precautions can I take as a similar age woman with a BMI fluctuating between 24 and 25 to avoid ever having this happen again

I had my left inguinal hernia surgery last September. I developed edema in pelvic and thigh muscles. I was in such debilitating pain for seven months. I got the mesh removed ten days back but the pain persists. Will the edema get cured? Will the pain go away? What do I do? Pl help.

@@herniadoc went to Minnesota Hernia Center a little frustrated because when I try to tell doctor I have 4-5 hernias I'm in a lot of pain, In having difficulty taking daily medications and I have suggestive comfort when I eat and other stuff. It's like they can't hear me though because they said my symptoms are so vague they said not to have the surgery but that is I look hard enough I will find a doctor who will do the surgery. I've been looking for over 6 years & so far all they've done is install mesh, hold my hand, and talk me to death and lull me to sleep with stories about how boring they find my condition. I read on Allinas website about someone with a hernia who "finally decided to take back their life" because of cosmetic issues related to the hernia, but if I mention any medical symptoms it just seems like scientists aren't interested to understand how a person's symptoms can be related to their physical health & not some big pharma big agro campaign to get patients to eat blander food when spices can also be beneficial although there isn't one right or wing way to season ones food for everybody. Fad diets & Vogue surgeries actually increase disease burden & overutilization of services in the general population. It doesn't matter what I say or do because the hernias are mostly occult I've had 10- 20 tests but they write up the report w/ any description or etiology of my symptoms that fits the agenda for the perfection of human society and I don't have much of any say in the diagnoses, suspicion, or management of my condition.
I have another lump above my surgical scar which I'm pretty sure is another hernia & I'm sometimes or often not wrong about these things but the first surgeon didn't listen carefully to my symptoms, well no one does GI nothing I can change really helps with this near constant pain in my abdomen it merely further changes the way I "should" or "get" to live my life, which isn't really mine it belongs to my country & society the way that the whole world belongs to everybody not just the people we appoint. They looked at some x-ray and decided they weren't going to listen to the number and location of hernias from me they know everything that I need to do & say in order to be successful they don't want any input from hernia sufferers or other surgeons they decide unilaterally what is false & what is wrong & whatever they say is the fallacy to authority is right because they are the one saying it. So anyways I don't think I ever have it ever will find a doctor who is willing to help, or even speak to me on such a controversial matter at all, it's all very esoteric & there is a lack of transparency what are patients & their doctors doing & why. I think I need a standing MRI which won't be easy to find or pay for in Minnesota. The hernia specialist that I saw yesterday he said that he thought that that lump was a suture, but I'm pretty sure that lump was there before I had the first hernia repair. Based off the conversation that we, had, it seems like I need to have the mesh removed A. My primary told me that the mesh is blocking ultrasound & possibly other imaging techniques. B. My hernia specialist told me that I still am living with most of the hernias anyway even with the mesh & they are still occurring because the mesh doesn't treat a disease which it can't diagnose, only the part where it is applied & can cause complications with further surgeries. The day I woke up from my last hernia repair it felt exactly like they just repaired one tiny Hernias and put mesh right on top of another tiny hernia that is hidden behind the far out within the abdominal wall similar to how a Spigellian type hernia would be not sticking out completely but within the layers somewhere. I might as well have the mesh removed because it wasn't as effective as the surgeon had hoped and it is causing me more undue pain and I suspect obscuring or delaying the diagnosis which gets normalized and blamed on the mesh, & since I need an operation but no one will operate to help me with my problem the only way I can get help is to have the mesh removed. Scientists have a lot of perspective but who is using it to actually improve patient outcomes? *Wishbone Emoji* It always costs an arm & a leg😁 but really value & values are so subjective that all we know for certain is that it will increase the cost to society.
