    I'm a Bass player switching to Guitar for a new project. We're covering Mr. Brightside. While I have been playing Bass and Guitar for some time, the intro to this song done the way I've seen in tutorials just tore my hands up. After I watched the live Glastonbury video I was like, Hmm, there's an easier way. Then moments after watching the live vid I saw your video. Many thanks for putting this up.

      @@JamesHargreavesGuitar thank you for sharing it with us, I had seen that the original way is to play it almost at the end of the neck something like 17 fret, very uncomfortable way to play it because of the pattern that's challenging and this way it's in a more comfortable way keeping that particular and unique sound!
      I thought you would title the video "Johnny Marr playing a Killers song the way I played" 👌

  • @torinoscaletunes
    @torinoscaletunes 3 года назад +3

    The Killers began when the guitarist turned up to meet some guy called Brandon who wanted to form a band. 'Have you got any songs?', he asked the prospective singer, who had brought a keyboard with him. 'Well, I've got this thing I call 'Mr Brightside', he says.
    So the only really good song in their repertoire was written at their first ever rehearsal. I think they probably peaked there, to be honest.

    Massive help thank you. The killers way is near impossible and I’ve been playing guitar for 25 years! Could I request a follow up video for the rest of the song as this is probably getting added to our set list and I just can’t seem to get the chords and notes right for the rest of the song.

    This is a lot sweeter on the hands too. All that stretching is great when you got young hands but later in life things change.

    Makes a lot of sense but what about the following section that goes "...chest now. He takes off her dress now. Let me go." and the following line with the Bm A G -ish chords? Having just about mastered the trickier version (but ending the song a bag of nerves wondering if my fingers will work properly for the next song) I would appreciate an easier version including those following lines... please? [Ah!... I see someone has already asked for it.]

    Hmmm..... interesting, I’m might give it a go this way. I currently play it ‘the correct way’ in my band. But it’s a real stretch on the fingers. Worth noting that it’s practically impossible to play if you have your guitar slung a bit lower like Johnny does!

  • @rumtumbugger

    Interesting...
    I've always capo'd this at 4th too - But I play with D shaped chord - Actually Db (add9) with first finger on fret 11 of D string and shift over to the fist string for the 4th note, the Eb. Then drop the 3rd string a semitone to get the C and then open giving the F# - so it's in key with the recording - it's indiscernable when gigging.
    Nothing more annoying than songs that are recorded de-tuned though I agree...even worse - I play with a cover band that play in Eb dropped - but routinely transpose some songs up half a step so they are in key with the records...SMH.
