I have this same one and I like it, seems to work well.
But I think you're abusing yours, holding it in the car exhaust is liable to damage performance, glad to see it still works.
I've been using mine to monitor room air while running my unvented heater and in fact it does measure low levels of CO, not sure whar else might cause the count to increase but seems to work for my purposes.

I like the ducting for the heated air for the house, you could even put an elbow on the end facing nearer and towards the burner for extra heat. I must make a self draught burner, the idea of a power outage and having immense heat on hand must make you smile, if my electric fan stops I'm in trouble at the moment.

My CO meter goes mental if it's in the same room when I charge my car battery. It registers way off 778 ppm but it's not detecting CO, maybe hydrogen sulphide, not sure?
