I think that there’s nothing wrong with running to fix a problem such as being depressed or overweight. Combatting these issues are my motivation to keep at it.

Love Mary’s comment about showing yourself from being a beginning runner. It’s exactly what I’ve created a channel for. Started running at 264lbs in a hope of changing my life… so far I’m on track! It’s channels like this that inspire me to keep moving! ❤ 💯

#8 hit home for me: Everyone has an opinion and young runners are so impressionable. Find out what works best for you and find your reason for running. I lace up my shoes every other day or so in the hopes of getting that feeling that I'm not even running. Around mile 3 or a lot of runs, it feels like I've drifted off into a deep trance and it feels like I'm gliding. I also run so that I can see how far I can push myself come race day. I weight 315 pounds 5 years ago. I just completed by first marathon at 187 pounds and have completely changed my life around because of running. I love it and will continue to do so as long as my legs allow me to.

Today I had my long run of the week. I still had 5 km to go and my stomach started to make some weird noises. I needed a toilet as soon as possible. I sped up and maintained a wonderful pace until I reached my home. I felt like flying through the streets. Now my secret is to mix a whole mango with a cup of milk before my runs.

I just ran my first marathon using a lot of y'alls tips! My build up to that was ALL slow/easy runs for 18 weeks. I did a few races in there to know my pace, but otherwise slow. Anyway, I PR'd on every race in a big way (10 minutes off my HM). Just backing up what you're saying that building your base can make you faster :) I think it also gives me confidence on a half (for example) when my training runs are 20 miles. Like a half is nothing at that point - let's blow the gunk out of the engine lol.

RUclips algo is a wonderful thing. I’ve had a bit of a hiatus from running the last couple of years but am just getting back into it. And up pops your video. Have binged a few more. Great content. I like your recommendation about getting off road - I find those runs so enjoyable. Always different as you say. I’ve also got into Hashing - having to hunt the trail adds a lot of fun and before you know it you’ve covered big distances without even realising it. I think there are quite a few hashing groups in Thailand and I’d definitely recommend giving them a go if you come across them!

Love the advice of showing up. I do that currently with my long runs. Im a ‘beginner’ again after a long long break. I find setting little goals for yourself and being happy just to complete a training session and looking very long term is key. Also, if you are returning runner that ‘was good’ it is so important to leave your ego aside with every training session. Dont focus on your old self, focus on smart training and distinguish the difference between hard training and a niggle that could turn i to injury or mean you need to stop or take a break from running.

So true. He stated in a previous video about the 10 minute rule (I think it was Ben). Just put your stuff on and walk for 10 minutes. If you don't have the inspiration, go inside. Most times, though, you get going. Same with strength training. Don't feel it? Do a few pushups or a light set. Most times I've had my best workouts when I didn't feel like working out at first.

The running purity is great yet off putting for those that don't love running here. I run for mental (more) and physical (less) fit/clarity. I find running is better for mental clarity than either rowing, cycling or J. Roping. I also really appreciate you keeping the channel less about running shoes and gadgets😊

I built up my stash😂 overtime mainly through the free running tech-shirts that I got when I signed up for 5k runs! Also, a few months ago I really didn't like running anymore. So I decided to just go out and run at what I felt was a comfortable pace but NOT look at my watch until I got home. I started out doing 2km and now do 4km-7km about 3 times a week. The funny thing is that recently when I entered a 5km run and later an 8km run, my times were the same or very close to the same as when I used to train harder🤯. But now, I am not out of breath or wrecked at the end of such runs😁. I am planning to soon get back to trying again to reach my own target times that I have set for myself👍🏃‍♀

Thanks for your video!! Currently training for my first marathon, I've been running for approximately a year and doing well (in my mind). My biggest problem is people questioning me "how fast are you", "how far can you run" it almost completely de-motivates me and makes me feel like I'm not fast enough or fit enough etc. Most of these people have never run in their life's and I feel like they don't get how tough it actually is/can be

they're projecting their insecurity on you, they feel bad about themselves when they know you're training and they're not, they want to bring you down to make themselves feel better, their feelings are not your responsibility, don't feel bad, feel good that you're doing something right by indirectly causing people to question themselves, people being jealous/envious is as part of life, don't waste your time explaining yourself to negative people, it's up to them fix their internal issues, not you

I think that half the battle is getting out of bed early, getting gear and runners on etc once you're out the door it's not so bad. Great advise. Made all those errors. More injuries than running.... Slowed down and did my first sub 4 marathon today after just a year of consistent running. Best to learn from people that made the mistakes so you don't. 1 maybe 2 faster sessions a week, if the body feels like it can. Rest slow. Zone 2
Thanks for all the great videos and advise. I pass it on to my wife who will be doing her first half marathon soon.

Yep, when I tried running 8-9 years ago in my late 20's, I would run the same little route basically as hard as I could, and do 5k races every other week. I did see good improvements from race to race for sure...but that only lasted for about 3 months until I started getting knee pain that didn't go away even after taking a full week break.
Now, I'm 37 and have been running routinely for almost 5 months now, and now running 5-6 times per week using a lot of different types of runs. Most are just 30-40min long, maybe one longer run per week...easy runs with a couple strides tossed in, a solid threshold run, fartlek session....those 4 types are pretty much my bread and butter and I just do them as I feel that day, all 30-35min (50-60 for long run) so that I'm not killing my body. I've been able to stay injury free since I'm not pushing hard every single time out. Like today, it was supposed to be a rest day, but I just went out for an easy 2.5 mile jog just to log some more miles and get the heart going a bit. It's amazing how easy it is to be consistent with it when you're not overdoing it.

It's funny, I started running 18 years ago and these advices would have been so beneficial. On the other hand I agree with Nr. 5 as well, there are so many "truths" out there regarding running it is really hard for someone who just starts to decide. A funny story, someone in the early days adviced me to buy a size smaller running shoes, he was a really good marathon runner. Of course I had very bad pains from it, I don't know why I accepted this advice :)

You do need a better quality shoe! Everything else can be scraps but shoes, no. Protect your feet and knees. Just bought some new Hokas and my old brooks were making my shin splints so much worse. I didn't even realize how bad they were until I ran in the new shoes.

Sage advice guys. I think with consistency it's all about building good habits. Sometimes people search for that abstract thing of motivation but if your sessions are just something you do and are part of your routine this makes it come much more naturally
