RJ’s story.. wow.. How could anybody do that? And not only did he shoot two children, but he went back and cut one’s throat?? What a monster. My heart hurts even imagining what they went through.

And the fact that RJ could forgive the murderer and get the sentence downgraded to life in prison. RJ just seems like a beautiful soul.

For those who dont know Meg is still very traumatised by this event and can't take hearing anything that sounds gun related, she had to leave the set even during extra life once because seeing Gavin in any danger was making her nervous. Please be reminded that even years after an event people still can feel far from what happened so please be respectful of them and what they been through. The love of her life almost got shot to death because the killer taught she was too beautiful for him, even if it was not her fault you can see how traumatic that must've been for her.

I’m impressed with Cash. The level of guts you need to just go for the gun is incredible. It shows how much he cared about the people around him as well. He pretty much risked his life to protect them and stop the intruder. It’s impressive

A self defense instructor I had said it will take that person more time to shoot let alone aim so if you can catch them off guard like he did, you take the upper hand. Not only was that very ballsy, but was definitely the right course of action especially with something as bulky and hard to control as that thing. Big heck yeah to him and also , the audacity of the intruder to demand his gun back like ????sir????
The fact that RJ didn't want the guy who took away his entire family and scarred him for life to get the death penalty because he has a son just really shows how much of a good person he is and how he doesn't just want vengeance but to give his kid a chance to still see his dad
It's amazing he can still have so much compassion. Shout out to his foster parents who helped him grow up into such a decent guy regardless of that horrific event in his most influential years!
That is literally what a strong person is in my opinion. Even if someone does something horrible you still have the compassion to not take vengeance back on said person. I know it's horrible and many people I'm sure would do it without hesitation condemning them to death or whatever that's going to happen to them.

Absolutely, and I know it didn't mention it in the video but it was also revealed that the killer, Mark Duane Edward's, has a mental disability with an IQ under 75. I'm curious if this helped influence his decision at all or if it was solely based on the man being a father. Either way, he shows an incredible amount of compassion to not only be able to forgive him, but to argue for his salvation as well.
As an army vet with ptsd I just want everyone to know. Never feel ashamed by what happened to you that caused your ptsd. You are a warrior
This is really sweet. I had people tell me my PTSD from being sexually assaulted wasnt real, that PTSD is reserved for people in combat. Thank you for breaking that mentality
@@boohbee7849 I agree, the clue is in the name - the type of trauma it is, is irrelevant. It still effects you and your mental health. Stay safe and don't be afraid to talk to people you can trust when you need to.
18-years-old & have suffered from the affects of PTSD for 6 years of my young life.
There are no words that are able to describe the complexity of the trauma and how much it has taken away from me. I’ve spent every day begging heaven above to make the pain end.

@@ashtonyukio8761 you should reach out to someone who can help you professionally, they can spend time with you and work with you to help you manage the condition. they can't change or erase the past, but they can help you get back control of your life and deal with the situation it has left you in.
I'm 30 and I have PTSD from flipping my car on Thanksgiving 2019. I can't drive on wet roads and/or in the rain or steep hills or sharp curved roads without having some kind of reaction. When I brought it up to my mom, she didn't believe me and still doesn't. Pretty sure that I also have PTSD from her abuse when I was growing up as well.
I honestly love how Anthony is so calm and doesn't rush these people.
He’s always so engaged as well, I really appreciate the way he can take sensitive and hard to talk about subjects and make them into a conducive and educational video for viewers. I’m sure his guests do too!
He really is an amazing interviewer. He asks the hitting questions but doesn’t pressure the people and doesn’t sensationalize the story.

@@skin4013 I don't think this is a scenario where there is a right and wrong thing to do. This man killed four of his family members and tried to kill him. RJ would have been just as right to be angry and want him to die. He did what was right for him. It isn't the right thing for everyone.

I’ve been watching Gavin/ RT/ Achievement Hunter for YEARS. And I remember hearing about this as it happened, and was completely stunned. Hearing about the details now, years later and how *unnerved* and *uncomfortable* Gav sounds.. I’ve never heard him sound so on edge. He’s such a private person, and I appreciate him so much for sharing the details of this horrifying story. This kind of terror is unimaginable. I hope him and Meg will someday find peace, and feel safe again.
I remember shortly after it happened and Meg went on her channel to announce she was pulling back from it and RT stopped announcing if Gavin was going to be at events.
I always remember how not long before that event, Meg talked about how she was having her dog stay with another family member because the dog was happier there; I’m glad the dog wasn’t a factor in that situation
It's sad because I remember times when some of AH would joke about how private of a person Gavin is, but then this happened and I'm sure they all not only understood but took steps towards being more private themselves.
What happened to RJ was absolutely horrible but he is an absolute Tank

tbh, i had no idea he was 12 until he said it near the end. in my mind it was a grown man dealing with this up until that point, dunno if i missed it or if that is the first time its said but crap, i have kid and i honestly couldnt imagine, i paused the video to come find a comment about him. and yeah what an absolute unit, no one deserves that let alone a kid.
People can be so ruthless to one another, these home invasion stories really make you think about your own safety because it could happen to literally anyone.

I bawled my eyes out listening to RJ’s story. You always see that shit on tv but hearing an actual person that went through that talk about it made it really set in that that can actually happen. I’m so sorry to all of these people.
Same. I especially was moved his story and his compassion. His decision to get the person who stole his families lives off death row, can be so compassionate and healing. I’m so glad he was able to do that, and it worked out.
If you want to hear more, I survived is a great series that has similar and worse stories told by the people who went through them.
I felt sick when he showed the scars on his neck. At least we can take comfort in knowing there are people in this world who will save us, like those wonderful wonderful first responders.
I know! When you watch something like this in a show you can tell yourself it's just a show, they edited it; they faked it; it's not real. But this isn't a show. It's insane and terrifying.
That's sort of why one of my friends hates "think of the children" when people want more gun control. He was Security Forces in the Air Force, so he's thinking about the people it didn't work out for. The people that did just give up the money that can be easily replaced and were still executed. Situations like RJ's. You never know how far that criminal is actually willing to go.
When RJ told his story, I felt my heart sink to the deepest pit of my stomach. I know that things can get messy when drug dealing and money are involved, but for somebody to to try and wipe out an entire family, just to make a point. It’s simply one of the most sickening things that I’ve ever heard. I cannot imagine the pain, betrayal and confusion he felt in those moments. It’s truly amazing that RJ survived and can continue to be a positive light in this world. It shows real character and has inspired me to be more forgiving.
I like how the break-in stories were told in order of most lighthearted to least.
Cash’s story was pretty shocking and horrible but he kept in high spirits about it, no one was hurt and he even laughed at the suspect who wanted his gun back.
Gavin story definitely had a more mellow tone to it as Gavin didn’t seem and cheery about it and even seems genuinely shaken up by it but thankfully no one was hurt in the process aswell.
And RJ’s story… wow! That was something entirely different than what I was expecting.
I'd say the suspect shooting himself in the head and consequently being lit up by the cops counts as someone hurt in the process. lol But I'm assuming you meant no one innocent.

I remember when Gavin and Meg went quiet on social media for months after this had happened. It’s terrifying for social media influencers because of the fact they can get targeted like this.
Recently Amouranth was talking on the H3 podcast about her fear of her (someday/future) child being snatched/targeted because she’s an influencer.. i can’t imagine having that added fear that extends from yourself to your child’s safety once you have one just because a lot of people follow you on social media :(

All three of these guys are incredibly strong (as well as the women who were with them) I’m so impressed by the strength they used to survive these situations and I’m so glad they did!

I've actually heard these stories my entire life because my mom was about ten and someone with a knife invaded her home and she couldn't call 911 because corded phones, so she hid in a closet for over an hour, both covering her face and holding a pair of scissors in a deathgrip. Obviously, she survived, but we live 15 minutes from actual civilization and we still lock every door at night.

He was spot on about needing to be proficient in hand-to-hand combat. His reaction - to go for the shotgun - was a dangerous move but paid off because no one expects someone to walk towards a gun. His strength and ability saved their lives.

I was looking for this comment. It feels almost impossible that he got out of that house under his own steam with two stabs wounds and a gunshot to the head ffs.
That is some incredible physical and mental strength- before you even get to the mental strength to move forward in life!
Who was looking out for him? His whole family got murdered and he almost got killed. People act as if that was an act of god, an act of god would've been if he didn't get his whole family killed in the first place

Kinda strange this “someone” allowed all that to happen but draws the line at him dying. Like the multiple homicides, child murder, torture, and arson are all fine but killing a second child is when it becomes too much.
"I broke into your home and threatened both you and your fiancee with a gun but if you don't give me the gun back I am calling the POLICE!" Imagine thinking that you were in the right there. Like sure, call them, idiot, you broke into someone's house and they disarmed you before you could kill them. The audacity.
You'd be surprised how frequently this happens. I had a situation recently where I needed an individual that was watching houses on my street to leave. It was the first time I've called the cops in my life, and because the individual knew I was calling the cops, they called the cops on me. I know quite a few people that have had the same thing happen, they call the police and when the police show up, it's because the person called the police on them.
Like how fucked up do people gotta be to be that entitled???
I remember reading about Gavin's home invasion, being a huge fan of Rooster Teeth I constantly check everyone's socials and when I started reading them Tweeting about Gavin's home being invaded I was like "Holy fuck is Gavin ok? Is Meg ok? Are their cats ok?". Tis the sad duality of Internet fame, there are both people that love and hate you and either side can take their feelings too far.

Honestly same here. I've watched Rooster Teeth since 2003. When I saw about what happened to Gavin, I freaked out and tried to make sure he was okay, Meg was okay, and their cats were too. When I saw they had hid and were okay, I about cried tears of joy because I was so thankful. I really hate that he went through this, but I'm glad that not only it didn't stop him, but he's out here speaking about it to help uplift other victims. He's truly incredibly strong.
I was scared we were gonna have another Christina Grimmie situation when I first saw the headline. Thankfully, he and Meg were okay and the only person the attacker hurt was himself. But the scariest part to me was just how dedicated the attacker was. He wrote 1,000 notes worth of stuff about Gavin and Meg. Then he drove 11 hours to do this plan. It's insane. It almost doesn't sound real.
I think his story is a little different than "well it's just because he's internet famous" obviously it puts more attention on him whether in good or bad ways, seeing that his attacker had everything planned and written out to the point he drove across multiple states just to track and kill him for no other reason than just wanting to cause harm really shows that anyone can be a victim at anytime. There are so many cold blooded murder cases out there that have no motive what so ever, people are just fucking insane sometimes.

I would have never thought that someone would do that to Gavin. Nothing he's ever done has been controversial, and each video he makes he is teaching us with the power of his technology. I can't even call that man who tried to do that bad because of his illness. I really hope Gavin can somehow find peace after going through that terror.

RJ must have wondered for a long time why he survived that night. My heart goes out to him, must have been a very long road to get to here.
RJ is such an incredible person. To stop a man who did all of that from being put to death shows how giant his heart is. That is not something most people would think to do. I'm glad such a wonderful person survived and continues to live in this world.
I absolutely agree. Though hopefully stories like his are spread much more. Stories of people who’ve forgiven the people who’ve taken everything from them, forgiving, is super powerful. The Norwegian justice system is much more compassionate, and has far less recidivism. It can be incredibly healing and far better for society. Such is the case of how victims and survivors of Anders Breivik have often dealt with him, and had more ability to heal and understand that some people are just horrible monsters but most aren’t. Most criminals commit crimes out of desperation, and poverty. That’s clear from RJs story.
@@daphnedherbert The Anders Breivik attacks made me admire Norway and Norwegians even more than I already did. I love your country & remember feeling helpless as news kept coming in. Your country was determined to recover and move on. Breivik will never be released and that is right. Families of those who died were unified in their determination to carry on. Survivors received great therapy. I've been back to visit and the country doesn't carry it's scars for all to see. I'm against the death penalty. There is no evidence that it solves or prevents crimes. In fact, there are some US studies that show criminals are more likely to murder victims to lessen the chance of being captured.
@@daphnedherbert I feel like we shouldn't expect them to forgive these people though. Forgiveness is more for you to move on and it's okay to never forgive. I can never imagine how it would be to go through all that trauma and I wouldn't expect someone after that to show compassion. It's sure great if they do and the perp shows change, but I wouldn't want to expect it.

April 30 I was a victim of home invasion and sexual assault. Watching this gave me hope for things to eventually become easier. Thank you for sharing your stories. Thank you for showing me that life does get better even if better is different then what my life was before.

Lot of people have messed up minds because of messed up lives, due to other messed up people around them, or messed up living conditions, or maybe it's self caused, or a combination of everything.
RJ is a king for surviving all that, I mean he was shot, his throat was slit, and he got stabbed multiple times?

I've been a fan of Meg since Sourcefed many many years ago and I still watch her streams when I can and every once in a while she'll mention how therapy is going or about being triggered and still having bad days and you can tell it's affecting them both greatly still. Like, how do you get past the fact that someone wanted to and tried to kill you just because you existed and did what you loved to do?
@@evalynn1863 it is so heartbreaking. during a recent extra life, i remember meg made a tweet about how she was logging off for a while and taking a break from conversation surrounding the stream because of the paintballs. people were joking about how michael and gavin were getting obliterated/killed by the paintballs and, while it was all in good fun in a greater context, she was talking about how basically any commentary surrounding gavin dying, being killed, being shot (even with paint) was becoming increasingly triggering for her PTSD and as the bit kept going for stream, it was getting too overwhelming.
i can’t imagine how hard it is for either of them to be in a situation where they logically know that they are safe, that it’s a gag for a silly charity stream they are a part of, and to still be so triggered into fight or flight mode due to the trauma. ik that i’ll likely never know them personally nor will they know me, but i think about them a lot bcs of this and hope that they’re doing okay.
@@theyganona absolutely. I know our stories and journeys are completely different but I feel like I have a sliver of insight into how horrible it can get. I was almost killed by a medical professional that gave me a high dose of a medication I'm allergic to and then held me down when I tried to get up to get help. Completely different situation but my heart stopped and I almost didn't survive it. And then ironically a few months ago Meg talked about having Chiari malformation, which I also have, and I know how debilitating the anxiety was for me from my PTSD before I had surgery to relieve some of the pressure. Like, I couldn't leave my house for years kind of bad. Complete different context but if she's going through even a fraction of what I did, it's an absolute nightmare some days. I wish nothing but the best for both of them, the seem like genuinely decent people who did not deserve this.
I remember when Gavin and Meg tweeted about what happened and then reading articles. I was so relieved they were okay but also so terrified that happened to them and worried about how it affected them. I’m sad that it still affects them but really respect Gavin’s outlook and I’m glad he and Meg have been able to heal somewhat from it, even though they still battle with the trauma.
Thank you so much for making Gavin feel safe enough to talk about this situation. As a long time Achievement Hunter fan and avid watcher of their content, this was horrifying. And it seemed like, at the time, everything got quickly glossed over. Gavin was back in work in a very short time making videos as usual, and though the incident was mentioned, it was never discussed in detail. I'm not implying that these private matters need absolute openness and discussion - Gavin has every right to utmost privacy - but it felt strange seeing things return to normal so quickly.

Looking back, you could tell that he was pretty shook up for a while. I remember that RT/AH stopped saying whether or not he was going to be at public events. For example, he wasn't announced for panels at that years RTX or any AH Live events for a good while. I remember Meg also announced on her RUclips channel that she would be posting rarely if at all.

You would expect someone to take time off for recovery and therapy after that, but Gavin was back at work the next day. It was concerning, forgive me if my concern is "weird"

Knowing self defence is one of the best things in a situation like these. My mother had a break in when she was in her 20's by a serial r•pist. He confronted her in her bed and was armed. She knocked the dude in the nuts so hard she bought herself enough time to run away screaming to alert others. Dude dipped out a window and broke his leg. Thanks to her, he was caught and she along with about ten other ladies got justice on that creep who is still in prison to this day

Yeah people underestimate the power of a good shot to the balls. If you hit them hard enough, they will almost immediately collapse and unable to do anything. It depends on the situation though.

People underestimate how effective a kick in the balls is for self defense and treat it more like a joke. As a guy, trust me it’ll do the job in a situation like that.

This video really spoke to me and opened my eyes. As someone who survived a home invasion at age 12 on a much lesser scale than these guys, it showed me that people who’ve had similar experiences are able to move on and survive, and if they can do it so can I. I’m 19 now and it still haunts me, some days are worse than others but there’s certain things that I’ll never be able to do or not be affected by again. This video made me feel so safe and heard so thank you Anthony, Gavin, Cash, and Rj so much for providing this platform and sharing your stories with us. Helped me more than anyone will ever know

My biggest fear as a kid was of a home invasion. My dad would always tell me it was irrational, and that I just had anxiety over everything. But heading these stories, it is comforting to know that I wasn’t crazy because it can happen out of nowhere. People are the scariest.
Tbf your dad wasn’t wrong, bc there’s not much point getting super anxious over things that have 0.00001% of happening. You may as well live in constant fear of being struck by lightning too, yknow? So yes, of course be aware of potential dangers, but don’t let fear of freak tragedies rule your life.
The best way to deal with those types of anxieties is to be prepared. That might be the best thing to teach children, so they won't be so worried. (Like teaching them what to do if there's an earthquake, flood, break-in, etc)
Yes it can happen out of nowhere but that's why you equip yourself with ways to defend yourself take classes and learn to fight back. Dont live in fear and anxiety live prepared for the worst but living for the best

Just think about it for any moment. The entire thing happens on like less than a minute. And there was still a possibility of her losing her life getting involved.
I didn't hear about the one with Gavin until about a year after it happened, and was completely shocked, but not surprised. Given that he has an attractive girlfriend who is an internet personality, we all know there are endless creeps who would stalk her, and people who would just be overall jealous of Gav. I'm just glad they were both okay, and I hope they've been able to find peace and security in their own homes again.
RJ's story really spoke to me. Mine isn't nearly as tragic, but I had a similar situation happen when I was a young teen. Decades later, I still struggle with trust issues because of what happened and I cannot EVEN imagine how this man is making it. All 3 of these guys are excellent examples of the resiliency of the human spirit.

I heard about Gavin’s situation when the story came out. I felt so bad for Meg and Gavin because I watched Meg since SourceFed. It sucks that they’re still suffering, but at least they’re pushing through.
I'm so glad Gav and Meg are okay. I remember being absolutely sick to my stomach when they were able to talk about what had happened. Love and respect both of them so much for being able to talk about their story and the aftermath and toll it took on their mental health.
Poor RJ, I pray for him, if I went through that shit id be traumatized and the fact he never cried during the explanation is crazy
So Cash is a savage. Gavin is insane for being able to think clear during a robbery. And Rj is a massive tank. Emotionally and physically. Being able to talk about this and surviving that event on 12 year old. All the respect of the world to these guys

I remember hearing that Gavin had someone break into his house. I was genuinely scared because I’m a huge RT fan. But so many people went through so much bad stuff it was really heart wrenching. Especially RJ’a story.
I was home alone about a month ago with my 2 children in a very insecure home because that's all we could afford when someone attempted to break in. It was the most terrifying experience of my life and thankfully they failed. But the police didn't believe me because I had a grocery order delivered right as they were arriving. It was horrifying and I've never been so scared in my life. I froze. I don't know what I would've done had they actually gotten inside. I can't fathom experiencing what all these people have.

I have been watching Rooster Teeth and Achievement Hunter since middle school. The fact that Gavin, someone who I admire, am inspired by, and get joy from watching, had to go through something so traumatic is devastating to me.
I spent my early high school years watching the golden age of achievement hunter, and we all of course loved Gavin, but hearing him say “or find something to beat him to death with.” in such a deadpan serious way gives me chills. I’m glad he and Meg were unharmed. Much love.
As someone who has been a fan of Gavin's since I was 13 years old, so 10 years, the events of 2018 was horrific. I deeply care about Gavin and Meg (his girlfriend), who was there, it broke my heart that this happened to them. Hearing Gavin's trauma response in the video made me cry. I cannot understand how anyone can do this to someone, famous or not. Same goes to RJ. The fight in him as a 12 year old is awe inspiring. His will to live and his compassion as an adult is also awe inspiring.
Also, Cash is a badass. Took that fucker down without a second thought. Good on him. And good on everyone in this video for continuing to live and thrive despite these events. It is not your fault trauma happened to you.
Everyone shits on Gavin for how he acts in AH videos, but to hear that he recognizes this guy needed help instead of harsh emotions towards him. Makes me respect him much more to know he really does care for people. I'm sorry it happened to him, but I'm proud of how he reacted to it.

I'm a home invasion survivor and I've ptsd since then. I check my door lock every single evening of my days since. It's been years, but no one got hurt in my case, just some jewelry stolen. I was told to keep my head down on the bed. That was the scariest experience of my life so far. They left and I was able to look back up after I heard the door close. It was 3 men holding guns. I don't think they had intentions to hurt someone, just to steal and get out.
I love how Anthony genuinely understands and shows that he understands these people especially the ones that go through traumatic events like this. 🙂
RJ had such an incredible amount of compassion for his family’s killer that I can’t even begin to understand. Even as someone who believes strongly in forgiveness, it’s just beyond my scope of comprehension. I admire him greatly, I hope his surgery goes well and that he makes a steady recovery ♥️
This makes me both more empathetic to strangers bc you never know what someone’s dealing with and healing from. On the other hand makes me more terrified of strangers bc you never know what someone’s capable of or willing to do.

My house was broken into when I was home alone at 16 and yeah I still haven't recovered. I was the only one in my family to experience it and it's been over a year but they still leave me home alone every week. it's just panic all night.
Home invasions must be one of the most scary experiences.
Your home Is meant to be your safe place, and that being violated would cause ptsd in your own home.

RJ’s story is so heartbreaking and just unspeakable evil. His parents and his sister would be so proud to see the man he has become and how he has managed to build a life after that traumatic experience. I wish all of these victims the best. ❤
As someone with PTSD from an arsonist incident from a complete stranger I struggle so heavily with the feeling of not being in control so Gavin's advice really hit me and reminded me that it is something I need to work on accepting. And God, RJ... what an incredible and strong human being. My heart broke listening to his story and I commend him for being able to forgive the man who hurt him so terribly. I commend his strength and the depths of his compassion, if everyone could be even a little more like him I think the world would be a much better place.

im a survivor of 2 home invasions, and out of everything ive been through those 2 encounters have followed me and affected me the most out of everything. it feels awful never truly feeling safe at home. something as simple as taking a nap on your livingroom couch is something that took me 5 years to be able to do. For anyone going through this, i hope you can heal.
Yes. It is awful. I could not do anything that would hinder my hearing bc I needed to hear everything! I didn’t take a shower home alone for a lonnnngg time. Home invasion is one of the worst feelings
